The thing I note most is that this is a 1hs usable by int casters... hmmmmmm.
proc

Checked, the proc is still named Wormcall, which is a 50 point manatap.

The Proc
# Nov 05 2002 at 1:17 AM Rating: Decent
I have a ranger that has used this in MANY caster mob encounters and have yet to see any result or effect from the effect. I have a mininum of 229 dex when dressed and usually have 255 with buffs when fighting.
One of two things, it procs but has no message and VERY low agro, or it does NOT proc. I think it does but doesn't have a proc message personally, anyway I am not super impressed with this weapon but I do like it. )

if ya read the spell info... unfortunately it only says a message to the person it procs on. :( So you'll never know how much it goes off unless you get a friend or alt to practice on for a while.

seems useful to rangers if you ask me.
Actually
# Aug 10 2002 at 5:54 PM Rating: Decent
Actually no, even if a mage can use this and it will go in offhand, he still cant equip it in offhand, like the shaded dagger, pure casters can use it and it can fit in offhand but it wont let them use it in offhand, you have to have dual wield to fit a "weapon" in your offhand
SK,Bard or Ranger WP
# Jul 21 2002 at 3:36 AM Rating: Decent
In terms of tactics, an SK, Bard or Ranger would make best use of the weapon as a way to help add to the mana regen potential of these rarely medding classes. The rogue/warrior classes can use it as a situational mana drain weapon, if they dont have better by the time they reach this nasty worm. The caster classes would be at the bottom in terms of need of this weapon - 10 Int is nothing to sneeze at true - but they would very very rarely, if ever, take advantage of the weapon's excellent ratio and melee enough to make the mana drain of practical use.

Bards don't benefit from mana injection effect (necros) or spell effect mana regen. Has anyone verified this with the Wormcall effect?
Bards do, however, benefit from Flowing Thought items and Mental Clarity AAXP.

IMHO, this weapon is best used in the SK's hands. Why, you ask? SK's use INT, they have mana and use mana AND they would use the excellent proc this weapon provides. Rangers would be next in line IMHO. After that, caster shouldn't really use this, yeah the +50 mana is nice with the INT boost but they proc would never be used. Warriors and rogues might think about it's use situationally (ie against casters) but SK would be best suited for its use. =)

At lvl 60, this item is a peice of ****.

Ratio is a joke for SKs, and even dual wielders who at this level should already have 12/18, 15/22, or better weapons. Even in offhand use, other i-handers with higher damage would be better.

In addition, the proc is useless to pure melees, since they have no mana. So it is reduced form a mana stealing item, to a mana stifen item (only reduced mana of enemy, does not give mana to weilder).

The +int stat obviously makes it an int caster only item, there for, rangers, and all wis casters are out.

What this all boils down to is that this item is geared towards SKs and pure int casters, but the ratio sucks too much for SKs to use, and the fact that the proc is a COMBAT proc makes it useless for int casters who never go into combat. Even if you are OOM, you will probibly regen more mana medding, then standing up and fighting, and HOPING for a proc.

Good job Verant, another piece of **** dropping off a lvl 63 mob. If it was droppable at least we could sell it to sub-lvl 55 players for whom this item is an upgrade. Of course it isn't.
May not be a class error.

Considering the classes that are listed, and the icon, it perhaps was meant to be a 1h piercing weapon.
Casters can 1HS?
# May 23 2002 at 12:15 PM Rating: Decent
So how does this work for say, an enchanter who doesn't even have the ability to 1HS?

Looks like an error to me...

Nice SK blade though!

Look again. It can be equipped in the off-hand. So even though a Mage (for example) cannot melee with a 1HS, he can still equip in second slot to get stats.

Show me a caster wielding this in secondary slot, and I'll believe you.
Fine Steel 1hs weapons are Prim/Sec, show me a level 1 warior with one in secondary?
Although it says Prim/Sec, casters can still only use it in Primary as they don't have the dual wield ability. (And he has a sage title?)

Skill has nothing to do with procs. :) You can proc even if you can't hit.
RE: Casters can 1HS?
# May 23 2002 at 2:25 PM Rating: Decent
you still hit some but your skill is capped at 0. there are a few odd weaps like this, a few of the sarnak weaps were marked as all/all when kunark was first released, blade of passage and one other, forget the name atm(both were fixed soon after kunark was released). also there's a 2hs nec usable scythe out of ToFS, a nec usable 1hs out of griegs, and i think a few other odd ones here and there. not really an error but just an odd weapon.

This is an excellent weapon for Rogues, and Warriors as well. My only concern as a Rogue would be to consider the amount of agro Wormcall draws, because its tremendous. Unless their ability to evade is superior, I would rather see this in the hands of another.

Obviously you don't either. Your primary hand and offhand items can't be looted off you. It doesn't make much sense to waste time bagging them when it's far more important to bag your droppable armor.

>>Hehe...rogues can use this? But why?...because it makes such little sense I think I'll get one someday

It makes perfect sense kid. It's a nice offhander for rogues, considering the fact that in offhand ratio is king, and 12/22 isn't bad.
RE: rog?
# May 22 2002 at 10:59 PM Rating: Default
As I hear it, in offhand damage is king, in MAIN hand, ratio is king...This being because offhand doesn't always swing, and main hand does always swing...plus, main hand has damage bonus.

Thus why Wurmslayer is main-hand only. If it were usable in offhand, it would be worth a hell of a lot more...
RE: rog?
# May 23 2002 at 2:00 AM Rating: Decent
The delay is the most important thing about a MAIN hand weapon for classes that get a main hand damage bonus. The smaller (faster) the delay the more times in a given time frame the main hand damage bonus is applied. The best primary hand weapon in the game before they nerfed it was 3/10 weapon called the Mosscovered Twig.

Off hand is all about ratio.

The exception to this may be the Rogue class due to the backstab multiplier. Over time a Rogue may do more damage with a higher damage primary hand weapon than low delay weapon.
RE: rog?
# May 23 2002 at 1:12 AM Rating: Decent
This would be a poor offhander at best for a Rogue. A taunting proc (useless and dangerous to the Rogue) and a poor ratio for the offhand make this obviously a better weapon for a hybrid. Actually, it would pretty much be situational for even an SK at 12/22 by the time you are killing this target.

Weapons *do* proc offhand. However, since you'll swing less often with a given weapon in your offhand compared to your main (due to failed Duel Wield checks), you're less likely to get a proc.
RE: rog?
# May 24 2002 at 10:46 AM Rating: Decent
12/24 is a pretty crappy ratio for a SK. I'd think damage would be more important than a few extra mana. Take into account that this is not a newbie encounter and that a MoSS is vastly superior to this in terms of damage and it would become a toy for any SK that could really contribute to this mob's killing. Rarely used.

I could see a ranger getting some use out of this or perhaps a warrior if this proc's taunt is really as bad as people say it is. Otherwise it's basicly a caster weapon. Many fights, casters are either not allowed to sit or can't sit due to AoEs. Because enchanters get spells that are faster and probably more worthwhile than trying to get this to proc and necros are pretty good in the mana regen dept as it is, I'd like to see this go to a wizard or mage if I saw one drop.

Anyways, as always, it's up to the people involved in the kill to decide who would help the guild the most from this item. I doubt a bunch of level 30s can really make that decision for an item that drops off a 55+ encounter. :)
