Ruins of KunarkI am kindly to Alrik, yet I give him the receipt and he does not give me back the Ancient Pattern.. Have redone this section a few times? Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?

If you already have one in your bank, he's not going to give you another one.

That level requirement must be because you killed Alrik Farsigth. If you perform the quest (Ranger Epic) you just need to be amiable with the Keepers of the Art to attain this Ancient Pattern.(and that faction can be easily checked by Niola Impholder in the Magician Guild, Felwithe)
To finish the Ranger Epic you'll need to be at lvl 51 thoug, but many of the smaller subquests can be done at much lower levels.
