I have found that it is all random but if you stay in one spot your odds go up with each fail, so just dont move and keep spamming forage :)

I found it today right at the very entrance to Rivervale in Misty Thicket, just a few steps out of the tunnel.
Confirmed at Misty Circle

I stood there and foraged for almost an hour like in the middle of the zone after I talked to Ella Foodcrafter and getting regular food stuffs. I read the comment to forage at the druid circle. I ran over there and on the first try I got the Mudroot! O_o
Got mine!

Misty Thicket Circle, foraged right at zone in with skill at 79, found one within 30 minutes.
totally random

I tried all locations mentioned below, for about 2-3 hours at each spot... Pok zone-in, the new "hotspot" loc of 384,-927, and the druid ring zone-in. After getting insanely bored I decided to wander around aimlessly and work on alcohol tolerance. About 10 minutes after starting this i got the Sweetened Mudroot.

If you apply the same logic to this scenario used by the people in this threaed, one could assume the secret is to wander around and get drunk. However i believe it is just random.

Utilize your Ring of Misty port. Once you port into the zone, DO NOT MOVE. Begin to forage. Got mine on my 1st try w/my lvl 55 Druid w/my foraging skill @ 150.
spend 3 days to forage it!!

Moved to a new server and started my Ranger 1.0 Epic ... since I was doing nothing but workign my Abj & Div spell skills I decided to do it in Misty Thicket and forage my Sweet Mudroot while I was there. Well 9 hours later and nothing ... Forage skill 179 (189 with Foraging Machete).

So I ran to Burning Woods and talked to Telin .. got the note and gave it to Faelin in GFay. Run back to Misty Thicket and got my Mudroot on 2nd forage.

/Shrug ... maybe success is related to hidden character flag.

I ran all around Misty today foraging. I fineally got a Sweetenedmud Root at 391, -960. They look just like the other roots you forage but this time they said "you have scrounged up something that doesn't look edible"

Misty was revamped around 7/10/07, so the locs are no good. For example, there is no 505, -2085 anymore. The zone edge is about -1385 now. And I am not so sure the locs really had anything to do with it. Far as most posts go, foraging is not location specific. At least not to a small fixed point.

So I didnt want to just have to sit around and forage so I brought my 2box 35 druid (im a 50 druid, the 35 is to PL my low level alts =D) and had him run around.. about 100ft from where the loc is, i forage on him and get a sweetened mudroot. his forage is 52, my level 50's is 105 not including the +10% Foraging Machette that he is holding. i went to forage again (thinking i was on my main's window) and the level 35 foraged another one (got the duplicate lore item message)... pain in the *******

Spent approximately 3 hours getting this drop. Here's a fact about all foraged items. It's totally random what you forage and it has nothing to do with where you are standing. There's a bunch of rangers in my guild, we've all foraged from the same spot, some of us got the root in under an hour, one guy took over 5 hours. (He was very unlucky, obviously.) It's a really simple tactic, zone into Misty Thicket using the PoK book and just stay right there. There's no sense in wandering the zone, it won't make a difference. Just forage from there and eventually, you will get the drop. I've just done this on May 5, 2006. My skill in Forage was 68 at the time I successfully got the root. Since I see people posting they've gotten it and are not druids or rangers, I would assume it can be obtained at a skill of 50 or less, being that most races that get Forage as a natural skill have 50 in it from the start.
