Well with a whole lot of clicking, I went from 162 to 248, MHB all the way. So I got some help on the seal combines and sub-combines because I hate JC. I already had a Geerlock to pump-up the Brewing skill to 260, and ended up succeeding on my first attempt WOOT! Great Item, I love that the bags are NON-Lore. So it just Goes to Show...who says event Big Stupid Ogre's can't trade skill sweet items :-)
made the trophy but...
# Feb 09 2005 at 11:07 PM Rating: Decent
For some strange reason when I looked at the slot order it says RANGE PRIMARY SECONDARY AMMO...it seems that if you put it range you get full effects...primary & secondary only partial effects and in ammo I saw no stat changes whatsoever..wonder if this is a mistake or done intentionally. Anyhow, if you have a range item already that you are attached to as I am with mine, kinda a waste of time to make..except for bragging rights of course!!

Since a recent patch, you can raise your natural tradeskill levels to 300. =)

I have a question for all you master tradeskillers. Can your natural skill level go beyond 250? I have a 250 in Brewing and yes, got my GM trophy on the second try with the gearlok. I would like to GM all the skills ( yes, for bragging rights), but with so many trivials going to 300+, is it possible to get to 300?

RE: Max Tradeskilll
# Jan 25 2005 at 6:32 AM Rating: Decent
The absolute max working skill level is 252. Players can raise their base skill up to 250 in any regular trade and use items with percent modifiers to get the last 2 points. It is not possible for a player to have a working skill of 300 as you asked, Viksfan. On recipes with very high trivials there will stil be a large amount of failures even if the tradeskill is capped and modified to 252. The best reduction for failures can then come from the Craft Mastery AAs.

Actually, that is where you are wrong.. my brewing ias at 255 without mod, with m od at 267... made my TS trophy, and all smithing skills can go to 300 now with DoN

Made it on the first shot. 250 skill plus geerlok. Not sure if the zone has anything to do with it but I went to Kaladim because I feel so at home there from many many many many hours of pickin shrooms. Good luck to you all!

The trivial 251 designation is what they sued to put for all 250+ recipes, before we had the tradeskill UI window. Since trophies are not learnable recipes, this one still says 251, since its real trivial is unknown, but we know its at LEAST 251, since you do nto get a trivial message at 250 :)
Boy, did I get lucky on this one!
# Oct 17 2004 at 6:11 AM Rating: Decent
On a whim, I just tried the final combine in brew barrel with only a 231 triv in brewing - and woot! success

I did "cheat" and use the Geerlok Fermentation Device which took me to triv. 241 I think... not bad - it worked

I started making Minotaur Hero's Brew at 135.
From 241 to 248, I had 4 fails in 80 tries.
I was thinking it should be cake to make at least one Grandmaster Brewer's Corker in 2 tries.
WRONG !!!
Seems you only have the 19 of 20 success chance if you have already made it a gazillion times.

Moral of the story: Be prepared to sink a bunch of plat into making your first GMB Corker even if you are only 3 skill points from trivial.

Edit: Time to go buy a geerlok :p

Ok, i have a skill of 122 in pottery, and I had maxed DEX and a geerlock... I failed on making the unfired Artisans seal... there goes 4k for all that crap i collected for a week. Just be wary that you can fail no matter how good you think your skills and stats are. Smiley: banghead

Yes, you can always fail.

No matter high how your skill is, there is almost always (99.9% of the time) a 5% chance of failure. It reflects how even the most skilled of craftsmen can make mistakes, in an EQ way. Life in EQ, go figure. =)

Only your skill affects the likelihood of success. Particular stats (INT, WIS, etc.) can increase the likelihood of a skill-up on a particular combine, but do not affect the likelihood of a successful combine.

For blacksmithing, the highest of INT/WIS/STR is checked for likelihood of skill-up.

For fletching, the highest of INT/WIS/DEX is checked for likelihood of skill-up.

For all other tradeskills, only the highest of INT/WIS is checked for likelihood of skill-up.

Long story short: the higher your pottery skill, the higher your chances of a successful combine. Nothing else matters.

Preparing to try for my grand master corker. I made the seal yesterday after:
1: Failed on the mounted blue diamond, with a jewelcrafting of only 31. Went to Abysmal Sea and did the free tradeskill:Jewelcraft to 54.
2: did all combines with Jewelcraft of 55, and Pottery of 123
Now, is there a minimum level you need to do the GM trophy? Last night i alsoo maxxed out on Minitaur Hero Brew, hitting brew-248. Before i make the final push for the LAST 2 skill-ups, I'd like the 5% bonues on these expensive ingredients. BTW, i figure the cheapest is to go the Kaladim COnsitutional route. Affter all, it CAN'T have a lower skill rate than MHB, right? Right? I mean, one skill-up in 100 tries is good for MHB. KC is easier, right? Oh yeah. 335 trivial. never mind.
RE: Doing the GM tries
# Aug 02 2004 at 4:31 PM Rating: Decent
You could just get a geerlok, and attemp the combine for the trophy.

I got mine last night, My brewing skill was 248 without the geerlok, and 252 with it. I failed on the mounted black sapphire, then i also lost my unfired seal (triv pottery 16, skill of 148 in pottery on my gnomie)

after i gathered the ingredients and got my artesians seal, i immediately went back to the brew barrel, held my breath, counted to 3, and clicked combine. Got it, 248 brewing and got a GM trophy. The +10 to Int is nice, and this has taken the place of my droggy drum.

i think you have just as much chance to fail at 250 as you do at 248, If your bank account will allow it, give it a go.

First try
# May 18 2004 at 2:00 PM Rating: Decent
Just crafted my trophy. Got a success on my FIRST try with a 250 brewing (plus a geernok to make it 252).. Got all the items from bazaar except velium bars which i got from Thurg..

Jewelcrafting only at 18 I failed on 1 of the jewels
Pottery at 133 got both unfired and finished seals on first try.

Ok, based on average prices in the bazaar I've seen while trying to craft this here's the info a little more accurately and all the parts you'll need...

Blue Diamond 150 x1
Diamond 100 x1
Jacinth 1000 x1
Black Sapphire 1500 x1
Corking Device 1000 x1
Velium Bar 262 x8
Rubies 131 x4
Poison Vial (2sp) x1
Water Flask (1sp) x1
Small Block of Clay (2sp) x1
High Quality Firing Sheet (2sp) x1

So, you can expect to pay out about 6370 PER ATTEMPT. So far, I've failed (with modified skill of max 252) 3 times. So, so far this item has cost me about 19K, and I still haven't got one yet. Maybe paying 25.5K will be enough...

The jewelcraft part (mounting the gems) is triv at 16. The pottery parts are triv at 16. Besides that, you could have bought a seal in the bazaar for 5-7k instead of wasting the plat to skill up.

And you expected the trophy to be given to you?!! You expected some sort of fanfare for hitting 250?!! PUH-LEEZE!!!

The frustrating part is doing 100 combines with no failures and no skill ups in any of the tradeskills. I got my trophy on the 2nd attempt. As soon as I get the extra AAXP, I getting a 2nd, and a 3rd,...

Brewing is the cheapest TS of them all to raise to 248. 250 is mildly annoying but by no means will brewing break you. Granted making the trophys is annoying but I can't believe you just expected a trophy to be handed to you.

Minotaur Hero's Brew:
(1)Yeast 1sp 6cp
(2)Water Flask 2sp
(1)Cask 3cp
(2)Short Beer 2sp
(3)Malt 3sp
That will take you to 248 fast and cheap.

Tips
# Sep 30 2003 at 12:56 AM Rating: Excellent
A few pointers:

The trophy has a 5% skill mod, the same as a geerlock and they do NOT stack. When you get your trophy sell your geerlock.

The trophy is triv >250, probably 260 or so which means, what ever your skill, you will have at least a 1/3 chance of failing. You can try to make it with any skill level but the closer to 250 you are the better your chance. Note it is ONLY your current skill that matters when you try for your trophy and Int/Wis/Buffs make no difference whatsoever.

The maximum any unmodified basic tradeskill can reach is 250. If you are a GM with geerlock or trophy - it should make you 262 - but it doesn't, for some reason, the maximum modified skill is fixed at 252.

So, with a skill of 240 and a +5% mod, technically you have 252, the maximum possible skill. This means there is absolutely no benefit, apart from pride, in getting your skill over 240.

The title Grandmaster is reserved by most people for those who have an unmodified skill of 250. However, at 240+, it is common to refer to onself as a "Technical" GM

I am very disapointed in this. I became a Grandmaster Brewer for the stats on this because i could put it ammo slot. I did and no stat change.
Its still nice to have, but just a warning, no stats in ammo slot.
RE: no stats
# Apr 02 2004 at 6:02 PM Rating: Default
I wish I had read all this first. I became a grandmaster so that I could get an ammo item with stats. Now I wish I had not spent weeks farming and combining and the 20K plat on items to combine the grandmaster item (I failed once)... It is useless to me...
RE: no stats
# Nov 13 2003 at 5:46 PM Rating: Default
That's standard throughout EQ. Otherwise Ammo with stats would gain the user double stats for being in range and ammo slot.
RE: no stats
# Apr 02 2004 at 6:03 PM Rating: Decent
Then it should not have the word ammo on it. It is very misleading...

Level 51?
# Aug 05 2003 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
Can anyone answer the question already asked? Do you have to be level 51 to create this item? Only asking because "level to abtain" says level 51. There appear to be no restrictions on the item itself and I have created other trophys on alts at much lower level. I have an alt that I would like to create this, but don't want to needlessly "pop" items if it isn't possible at lower levels. Has anyone created this under level 51 yet?

Thanks,.
RE: Level 51?
# Sep 30 2003 at 12:22 AM Rating: Decent
There are NO level restrictions on most tradeskills: Jewelin, Pottin, Tailorin, Smithin, Brewin, Fishin and Fletchin. You can become a GM at level 1 if you want to.

Some skills, like Alchemy, do have level restictions however. You have to be 29 (I think) to start it and 55 to GM it. This is probably where the rumour started
RE: Level 51?
# Sep 19 2003 at 2:04 AM Rating: Excellent
I completed mine tonight at lvl 18, so there is NO level restriction. I have a skill of 248 and a Geerlok... was completed on the first attempt.

The recommendation of 51 may come due to the fact that you can be a GM in ALL skills starting at level 51 with AA points spent in Tanaan Mastery ... but since you can only get stats in three spots with this, I don't see why you would unless you are doing Shawl quests and such or just want to be a busy little bee Smiley: yikes Smiley: clown

I plan to work on my other AAs before going after Master Brewer (currently Master Baker), but one day I will be there :o)

After an unsuccesful raid I thought to myself that i had all the bad luck for the day... so I thought, let's try to make it today.

I got the seal and device from my bank and walked up to the outside brew barrel in PoK. I placed both items in the barrel, positioned my mouse cursor above the button... took a deep breath and closed my eyes... and pressed it.

You've succesfully made something NEW!!!

and that with 236 brewing ;-)

I gave it a nice spot in my range slot.

I did this 3 times , I am 250 as well and had the geerlock on me, I am starting to grow warts on my hands and salivate due to the frustration of this &^#^ ing thing. My only thoughts are to make this thing and it will be a happy day indeed when I do. Thank god the prices on E'CI are so low now for the gems and corking devices. Good when you are buying stuff , bad when you are the seller. Odds are in my favor ( or so I hope ) the next time around. I am superstitious, I am not going to try this in Thurg anymore, those dwarves have the evil eye on the brew barrel . POK is my cup of tea.

My druid made his GM brewing corker at 200 skill, on his second try.

Also, skillup on the successful try (ding 201)

9 tries to make at 250 is VERY bad luck.

My Cleric took 3 tries at 233 to make his hammer, so I am aware success on second try at 200 is as much good luck, as 9 tries at 250 is bad.

Level to Attain 51????
# May 20 2003 at 3:07 AM Rating: Excellent
Is this true, level to attain 51!? Would this have something to do with the possible success rate everyone is talking about? Unlike most I spend about 50% of my time working on trade skills and the other 50% leveling up. At level 33 I don't want to waist more time trying to get one of my trade skill to 250 if I will only have to wait until I reach level 51 to have a reasonable chance of success on this combine. Anyone have any information on level based success?
