A few pointers:

The trophy has a 5% skill mod, the same as a geerlock and they do NOT stack. When you get your trophy sell your geerlock.

The trophy is triv >250, probably 260 or so which means, what ever your skill, you will have at least a 1/3 chance of failing. You can try to make it with any skill level but the closer to 250 you are the better your chance. Note it is ONLY your current skill that matters when you try for your trophy and Int/Wis/Buffs make no difference whatsoever.

The maximum any unmodified basic tradeskill can reach is 250. If you are a GM with geerlock or trophy - it should make you 262 - but it doesn't, for some reason, the maximum modified skill is fixed at 252.

So, with a skill of 240 and a +5% mod, technically you have 252, the maximum possible skill. This means there is absolutely no benefit, apart from pride, in getting your skill over 240.

The title Grandmaster is reserved by most people for those who have an unmodified skill of 250. However, at 240+, it is common to refer to onself as a "Technical" GM
Skill Stacking?
# Jun 11 2003 at 7:48 AM Rating: Default
Okay, if this adds 5% to your tinker skill, Tinkerin' Tools add 2%, Frizznik's Robe of Tinkering adds 10%, and a Geerlok Clockwork Contraption adds 5%, would they all together add 22% (5+2+10+5 = 22) to your Tinker skill or would they multiply when stacking for 23.7% (Skill*105%*102%*110%*105% = Skill*123.7005%)?

Obviously this probably wouldn't matter much for a Grand Master since skills with modifiers supposedly cap out at 255, but that means that theoritically you could reach that cap at 209 or 206 depending on the way it works.

Of course, that would somehow mean you were lucky enough to tinker an untrivialable item at 206, but I'm just speak theories here.

Of course that means that you could cap out at a naturual 217 or 216.

"Of course, I play mostly gnomes. Why do you ask?"

Niether... You only gain the benefit from your highest level modifier item: Frizznik's robe. So only 10pct mod TOTAL.

EDIT: I couldn't help but ask why someone would rate my simple concise answer as Awful. Especially when I am correct. At least have the maturity to post an explanation of why my post is deficient. Folks who have nothing better to do than insult other people who take the time to improve these boards with helpful posts will find themselves reading more and more truly Awful posts because the ones like me get fed up wasting their time and stop posting. Sorry but I needed to say that. Thanks

#REDACTED, Posted: May 23 2002 at 3:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) One day while trapsing through Ak'Anon with my newbie Gnome Enchanter I was given a tell by a fair haired Woof Elf Druid of 55th lvl. She told me she needed me to go purchase some items for her so she could tinker some items for sale. I thought this preposterous! But come to find out she did indeed have access to the tinkering skill. Not only that she also could dual wield, as she was not shy about giving me a exposition of her abilities. She also gave me 50 plat for my deed, to which I owe her my gratitude.

Actually anyone can tinker, but noone but gnomes can gain a skill point in it. Forgot where I read this... eqtraders.com perhaps.

Can anyone say Gnome Chanter with an illusion and a parrying dagger? Or maybe a gnome rogue with a mask? (is there a woodelf mask?)

Maybe this was a gnome enchanter, but if it were why would the gnome enchanter take wood elf form and ask another gnome to buy the tinkering stuff for her? It might have been a wood elf druid with a parrying dagger or some other weapon-looking shield, or maybe she was dual-weilding... steins?

Yes any race can tinker in theory, and only gnomes can gain skill. Non gnomes however can make many og the minor items, such as animated bait, compass, collapsable fishing pole, and fireworks.

I Show non gnomes how to make fireworks all the time, as they are very interested when i shoot them with one. ;)

#REDACTED, Posted: May 17 2002 at 12:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Lets also not forget to mention that it says it can be placed in the ammo slot. You CANNOT gain stats from an ammo slot items.
RE: Doubt it is real
# May 17 2002 at 12:39 PM Rating: Decent
This is indeed a real item. From what I have seen so far, all of the Grandmaster Skill Trohpy's have the same stats as listed here. I know for sure the Grandmaster Jeweler's Eyeglasses do.

Granted... You can not gain stats from placing stat increasing items in the Ammo slot, but that does not mean it can not be placed there.

RE: Doubt it is real
# May 17 2002 at 12:36 PM Rating: Decent
It's 100% real. Every trade skill has an item exactly like this that can be made by grand masters of said trade skill that were added in the HUGE trade skill patch. They all require a jewel crafting in the mid 100s as well as a pottery in the mid 100s (I forgot the exact triv levels).

Some of the components you need include a diamond, a blue diamond, a jacinth, and a black saphire (I might be missing a gem) and 2 bars of velium per gem. There is a very good guide for these grand master items on eqtraders.com.

No, you can't gain stats from the ammo slot. Does that mean you can't put items with stats in your ammo slot? No. Look up shissar fangs.
Skinny on this
# May 17 2002 at 11:46 AM Rating: Decent
Yes this is Tinkered and it is never trivial.

The cost should you not fail on any attempts and with max Cha is around 2700pp. The problem is that there are like 5 steps that you could fail at all of them after the most expensive step (all the gems and velium bars).

So think of it this way 2700pp to upwards of 12000pp (i would be killing someone should i failed this much)!

A good estimated cost on this would be around 5000pp.
what the ...?!

you sure its tailored it says tinkered up there. although allakhazams has been wrong
RE: what the ...?!
# May 17 2002 at 1:57 AM Rating: Decent
Although this particular item is tinkered each tradeskill has an item with the exact same stats.
RE: what the ...?!
# May 16 2002 at 8:43 PM Rating: Decent
Not to mention it costs about 4-5k depending on the going rate of gems.

I dont know if i had missed them opening up tinkering to all races, but as far as i know Gnomes are the only ones that can tinker. Now if that is still the case then why is this ALL/ALL and NoDrop. just my 2cp

All trade skills now have an item like this, so rather then remake the item in the database they can just link the new name to the stats. It saves space on the servers, even though your right about gnomes tinkering
