Hello
I just made this on my first try yesterday, LOL, it took me about 5 mins, to hit the final combine button, I opened my eyes and there it was, WOW, what stats, I now have a unbuffed chr of 221 with this in slot, all the time spent farming and working on raising the skill up is now all worth it,
Ya'll had me worried

Ya know... I was so worried in my attempt of making my Grandmaster Jeweler's Eyeglass because of all your "I failed this many times" posts... So let me post this...

I was sitting in PoK w/ my 36Chanter that had a JC skill of 227... So I was sitting around making 6WIS and 5AC55HP rings and selling them at a lil higher price then merchant would give me to help get a lil extra plat... One nice chanter that I did some custom combines for tossed over 1k so I could keep working... (Pulled 6600p off my trader)

Well while i was doing this and making my "Selling these items" shouts a guy spoke up saying he would sell me a Blue Diamond for 300p... So I jumped on that and had that... While I was medding up to enchant another round of Plat bars I explored the 2 JC merchants I was sitting next to and saw a Diamond... So I picked one of those up... After doing a crap load more combined the Plat Jasper rings finally became trivial and I was at 236 in my skill...

Now I had a 236skill, a Blue Diamond and a Diamond... Knowing I had a Black Sapphire on my trader and a Jacinth on my cleric I decided to run to Thurg and buy 8 bars of Velium so I could mount these 4gems... Now I asked a fellow guildie if she could do the transfers for me so I could get the 2 other gems to my chanter to mount and se just gave me ones that she had <Gives Sadidas a BIIIIG hug> so I got those mounted... Then since my pottery skill sucks on all my toons I asked the guild if someone could make the Artisan's Seal for me... And Somnus said his skill was 150 so he made it for me... <Cheers for Somnus>

Now my plans were to just wait until my skill was atleast 243 but I was in a brave mood... So Somnus gave me a hit of C3 and I ran off to buy the glass shard in PoK... I went to one of the stairwells for the library and clicked combine...

WOOT! I was successful... Now here is why I was shocked... All of you are saying your stats are all maxed and you fail... Well this toon is half stripped... That C3 boosted my INT to 198...

But that is my success story... I now have a trophy on one of my toons... My cleric is at 175 in his blacksmithing so he is getting close to attempting for his trophy...
Completed Eyeglass

I hit 250 in JC today (WOOT! Grats me). And I went to make the trophy. I bought the seal in the bazaar for 7k, not too bad. I went to combine with 179wis 275int and 229dex. I failed. I went back, bought another seal. Buffed meself up again (Tranquility, Intellectual Superiorty, and Night's Dark Terror) and had a shammy give me HoS. So, this time I had 275dex, 275int and 179wis and succeeded. In going from 230 to 250 yesterday, I kept my dex at 229 and I was failing 1 in 77.2 attempts, with a geerlok. Hope that helps.

Ridiculousness
# May 22 2003 at 2:49 PM Rating: Decent
Well, to make a long story short, on Mith Marr server, I have tried an attempt at this 3 times. I've failed all 3 (not to mention one gem mount failure worth 300PP).

After all the time and effort I've put into getting JC up to 243 (I don't even want to think of the hours invested of my LIFE), an Int of 255+ and Geerlok in hand, I fail 3 times. SoE has created an item that I've worked literally years towards, and still failed. I've spent over 12K PP on this (over 2/3 of my entire vault) and SO much time, it is so completely frustrating, that I am (temporarily) quitting EQ.

My opinion is an item of this caliber that is NO DROP should be easier to obtain than this given all the time and effort required.

Just my 2c,
Acuban

# May 18 2003 at 10:14 AM Rating: Default
KK, I have no clue whether or not stats help and I wont agrue the point. Do I get fully buffed before tough combines , you bet your geerlok I do!

So, second try finally got it. JC 250, geerlook in hand, 265 int, 265 dex, 175 wis. Hit the combine button after doing the insane stuff we all do for good luck and Bang I make the combine.

Now I am a bit upset: I throw it into my ammo slot looking to see I could get rid of 10-12 int points from rings and such and move to resist gear ( Putrid fish, ornate rune shield and Beginners magic manual- Pri, sec, range respectively), but I dont get any stat bonus from this in the ammo slot????? So I /petition Wonderful Amato reply then says I need to /bug....

Later I talk to a guildie and he says that you never get bonuses from ammo slot? One question WHY THE %$#@ NOT? I busted my **** for this item so that I would have a great little item in my ammo slot with ubba bonuses to again move to resist gear and drop +5 int rings and junk earings.
/rude soe : If you equip an item in a spot that works for it you SHOULD get the bonuses? Please someone tell me this is bugged and when they fix it I will get my bonuses or that was a huge waste of a few 10k pp ?

Um... I have been playing for a bit over a year and since then you have NEVER gotten stats off your Ammo slot... Only Primary, Secondary & Ramge... There is nu /bug on that... So guess youhave to decide if you want to take something out of either melee or your range so you can get the stats... If not then just toss it in the bank till you are going to do some jewelcrafting...

If you want a better chance at suceeding on this item, for those that failed multiple times with their 240+ JC, you have to crank your wisdom up. This is what affects your success rate. It was posted somewhere that the higher of the two, wis + int, affects skill up, and the lower affects success rate. I believe that dex may also help with success, but I have low dex, 110, and consistantly get 1 failure in 20 on items that are 15 triv poits higher than what my skill is.
RE: JC
# May 05 2003 at 5:37 PM Rating: Excellent
The ONLY thing that makes a difference on your success rate is your current modified skill. So, if you have a skill of 200 and you have a geerlock jewel setter (+5%) equiped, your current modified skill level will be 210. That number will be compared to the trivial value for the item you're trying to make in order to determine if the combine works.

Your stats are ONLY used to determine if you're going to get an increase in your skill from the combine. For jewelcraft, your wisdom or intelligence score (whichever is highest) will be used to figure out the skill improvement.

# Apr 26 2003 at 1:05 AM Rating: Decent
This is ridiculous. I failed on one mount. Then I did it again and got all four mounted gems. Then I tried to combine the shard, artisan seal, and silver bar and it FAILED! What the hell is the point of being a Grand Master if you can still fail on an item?

The final item is NOT fail proof.
Is This Worth It?
# Jan 04 2003 at 2:51 PM Rating: Decent
I tried to do this and failed on the mounting of a couple of stones, which baffles me considering my JC and INT. Then I redid the mounting and moved forward. I did the pottery combines, both of them, and sat down to do the final combine.
The one which would use my JC. I had my geerlock and I was ready. I clicked combine and failed.
I wasnt surprised but I was sad. To be out that much plat was awful.
As Jewelers, we dont NEED this item, however it would be a nice addition, since it can be placed in the AMMO slot.
As for the bag, since the bag you receive for the turn in is lore, it in itself is not worth doing this. Cheaper to get other bags. If you want the cha, str and int/wis, then this is worth going for, in addition to the 5%.

The stats on this are killer.
You don't get any benefits from placing this in the ammo slot.
This trophy is the #1 reason I finally went an GM'ed JC.
I had one mounting fail and one final combine fail.

i did the first set of gem mounting at ~215JC and dint fail a single one. dont know why you mention your int Sirri, since that has nothing to do with having successfull combines. when i hit 250 i got my gemsetter in hand and throw the stuff in the bag and FAIL! had to mount all new gems. still, not a single fail on the mounts. made it on the second try.

Momur is exactly right. the stats on this are AWESOME. i replaced my cha stein with this and had so much left over i took off the cha earring and ring too. buffed i'm at 256 cha... of course it maxes out at 255. the bag is awesome too. the norent ones you can have as many as you want. i put a few of my smaller wt reduction bags in the new bank space and summon a couple of these bad boys when i need the space. cant beat wight of nothing... just make sure you dont log for the night with wnything in those.
Tradeskill modifiers don't stack.
# Dec 30 2002 at 1:35 PM Rating: Decent
According to some good information from EQTraders, trade skill modifiying items do not stack. It also appears that if you have two +tradeskill items equipped, the game may not always pick the best one to use.

Yak has stated that 252 is the effective limit for tradeskills. EQ traders seems to feel the same so 240 + 5%geerlock is the same effective skill as 250 + 10% tradeskill item.

I made this item with 240 skill and 5% geerlock. It took me two tries. Failed twice on the mounted blue diamond. No other failures.
this and geerlock is worthless anyways.
# Dec 04 2002 at 4:30 PM Rating: Default
One thing to keep in mind regarding equipping this and the geerlock. VI has stated publicly that although skills can be raised above 250, the "real" cap is 252, because they use the numbers 253, 254 and 255 for system variables. So 250+5% = over 252. Adding another 5% doesn't put you any higher over the cap.

Don't know if the fact that skills can now go higher has any effect on this or not, but I doubt it.
RE: this and geerlock is worthless anyways.
# Dec 06 2002 at 5:31 PM Rating: Default
So you can try this at 240 + a geerlok and have the same chance if you were 250?

240+5%=252

Eyeglass/geerlock stack?
# Oct 17 2002 at 2:19 PM Rating: Decent
I got the Eyeglass...very expensive...very...i also have a geerlock but when i equip both i have noticed a MAJOR fail rate im thinking that the 2 modifiers cancel eachother out or worse..cancel each other out AND decrease your skill...i have lost about 6k testing this with ruby's and velium as constants i failed 6 out of 10 times with both readied and 2 out of 10 with just one (eyeglass) i had 230 int (kei) anyone noticing a similar sucess/fail rate?
RE: Eyeglass/geerlock stack?
# Jan 22 2004 at 5:49 PM Rating: Decent
I have only tried a couple things with both Geerlok and the GM Eyeglass. I have about a 50% failure rate on the Blue Diamond Velium bands.

However my dex is only 88. I will try casting Boon of Garou on myself before hand next time.

RE: Eyeglass/geerlock stack?
# Oct 23 2002 at 5:28 PM Rating: Decent
Ok before im flamed I know it cannot decrease your skill (with both readied) but it did increase my fail rate...I tried it again with plat-ruby and the same results (aprox) average out...(about 100 tries total..) somone else try this and see if im bugged or somthing.

Apparently (I'm going off of something that was written even before SoL came out), the EQ RNG is very streaky. If you failed a few times on your first few, chances are that you will fail again. Of course, I could be wrong, but... Anyways, it also said (in the notes, mind you. The author didn't write it) that int does not matter in determining success rate. Only skill ups. Just to be on the safe side, I'd unequip this (get the carry-all or sumthin') rather than risking failing on a hundred Plat Rubies.

# Sep 23 2002 at 2:12 PM Rating: Decent
how does anyone get this if they aren't jeweler's
Here's How
# Sep 25 2002 at 1:50 PM Rating: Decent
You cannot. There are several different *trophies* depending on what your tradeskill is, but you can *only* get one of these items by making the last item yourself. Thus given the price of the materials you had better be at 250 skill if you want to have the best chance of success.

Ingredients are (From EQ Traders):
8 bars of Velium, Jacinth, Black Sapphire, Diamond, Blue Diamond, 4 Rubies, some minor items.

Some items you can buy from others (Mounted Gems, Purified mana, Artisan Seal), but you will still pay quite a lot of plat.

Personally, I plan on getting one. :-)

# Oct 16 2002 at 2:19 AM Rating: Excellent
I feel your pain... 0 for 3
Int 255
Dex 255
JC 250 (and Gearlock)

I found that there is a way to attempt the combine without fearing the loss of all your components. On a patch night, wait until the last log off now warning. Sit and start to camp out. At about 10 seconds left, hit the combine button. If you are successful, continue the camp out and you will save your character with the trophy. Smiley: grin If you are unfortunate and have a failure, stand up (canceling the camp out) and wait for the server to crash. When you log back on, you will have all the items in your poccession, because when the server goes down it will reloads your character from the last saved spot. Hope this helps.

RE: WTF
# Nov 08 2002 at 1:51 PM Rating: Default
Why are you worried about Int and Dex being maxed out? Success on any tradeskill combine relies solely on your skill at that trade. Int will help you get skill-ups, but not successes.
RE: WTF
# Aug 09 2003 at 10:31 AM Rating: Default
INT Increases your chance of getting a skill up. Once your skill is 250, you can still make this (or anything else) with 50 INT. :p

SKILL + DEX Increases your chance of a successful combine.

Geerlok increases your chance of making items that trivial close to your skill. It DOES NOT artificially increase your skill.

For example. You have a skill of 200 and are trying to combine something that trivials at 199. The Geerlok gives you 5% more chance of combining, it DOES NOT artificialy give you a skill of 210. The cap on Tradeskills is 250. Not 252, 262 or any other number people try to convince you with.

It dosen't take a genius to work this out. If it did artificialy increase your skill, you wouldn't be able to get a skill increase if you had it equipped at 238+, because you would already be over/at the 250 cap. :p

Hope that clears up a few loose ends. :p

Sadly you aren't the genius you feel you are. If what you are saying were actually true then you wouldn't be able to perform PoP combines which require a skill of 220 until you physically reach that skill level. Evidently you are unaware that by equipping a 5% skill item you can do these combines with 210 skill (effective 220).

Additionally I would suggest that you go and take a look at the eqtraders website, pretty much the complete authority on trade skill combines, where the hard cap of 252 is discussed and it does indeed apply to trade skills.

Oh, and for your information it does not give you a 5% better chance of combine, it gives you the % chance increase resulting from increasing your skill by 5%. No-one other than Verant knows the exact formula that is used to calculate success, although after extensive testing there is a formula on EQtraders site that gives a pretty good aproximation.

In futrue please don't try and put out authoratitive posts when you clearly don't know what you are talking about.

Just Made one! With 250 skill, Geerlok Item and 227int. Made it on first try. They don't list it, but it also gives the 5% to JC. I haven't seen or read anything if this stacks with the geerlok item giving an additional 10% when equiping the two? Also it's to bad it fits in the Range slot. I Gives an awesome Reverse Crystaline Transparent Shield look when Equiping in Primary slot. but of Course the only place for this item is the Range slot. I think the Bag it summons should be Only No Drop, and not No Rent also, We deserve the bags for busting Butt and PP on the item. Anyway Good Luck to others attempting this Fine Item....

With 246 int and 250 skill in JC.

I failed on my first attempt mounting a gem (diamond). I was completely disappointed, but decided to go on anyway. I managed to mount all the gems after that first diamond failed.

Since I'm a chanter the vial of mana was not an issue. I was however extremely nervous about placing this (over 5.25k) into the pottery wheel.

Success! I had the seal, now I hate firing stuff in the kiln as I am prone to fail trivials in the kiln more than on the wheel itself. But alas, success again.

Now can the real fear I had, taking all that time, cash and nervous sweat and placing it in the jewelry bag.

Yes, I managed to make mine on the first attempt! The only failure was that first mounted gem.

I wish you all good luck on these in the future.

www.eqtraders.com is the place to go for the recipies. But just to give you an idea , you need 8 velium bars , a blue diamond , diamond , jacinth , black saphire , small clay , water and a vial of purified mana (4 rubies ) to make your Artisans seal. The seal IS trivial to a potter with a 140 skill ( pottery is REALLY easy to raise to 148 - took me about an hour and 300pp ).
The final combine is NOT easy. Even with 250 JC and my 5% mod it took me 3 attempts to make it. After the first 2 fails I gave up because of cost and lack of gems , now I have one Im glad I continued.

These seem to have been changed to lore if made after the tradeskill update. If you have an existing Grandmasters anything that does not have this effect there are ways to change it to this new type.
