By far the most valuable website of information for the Fletching skill, including all of the Blessed Faydark bows, has got to be the EQ Rangers website. There's also a complete listing of what arrows you should make, the cheapest way to increase your fletching skill. If you have a Ranger, it would be highly beneficial for you to check out http://www.eqrangers.com/

On the menu bar you find on the left hand side, click on Trades & Training Guides. Click the link for Wood Elf Cultural Fletching and you will find all the information you wanted to know about the Blessed Faydark bows (as well as the Fier’Dal Fletching Kit, which is mysteriously absent from Allakhazam's).

hey need help, i had the same prob with my skill, it was low, so went to South Karana, fought with the cents (took faction hits, but still able to sell at their town after killing tons of them). went solo, rooted meleed and snared the centaurs then preceeded to use them for target practice. buy supplies in WK from barb village, swam most of the way to up that ability, took awhile, but no probs in the wide open spaces with agro, exp and loot wasn't bad either. this should work in any open zone where the rangers rule. Good Luck and Tunare be with you.

I crafted this bow tonight with a 192 skill. Point of interest... the reinforced Sylvain Branch was trivial to me at 192... the bow was not.

I have a lvl 33 Ranger, and i have neglected my archery skill. It is know at 60, but i recently went to High Keep to shoot at the goblins. They con blue to me, but i went through 120 arrows without a increase. Can someone please tell me what is wrong?

Unless the mob that you're shooting at is light blue or higher, you won't get any skill ups. This goes for all melee skills.

Jeez mate, at least read the post before answering it - he said that they con blue to him...and fyi 'melee' doesn't (or at least shouldn't, by definition) include ranged combat.

To original post, can't think of a reason aside from a horrific spell of luck. And bear in mind that you have to shoot a LOT of arrows to get the same number of hits in you would from melee with one mob, and your melee skills don't advance with every mob you kill. Also check your INT and WIS - the value for whichever is higher determines the likelyhood of a skill increase (ie characters with high INT/WIS find it easier to increase skill...Erudite casters must have a field day)

Ahh... hate to bring this up. But does Karana really care about bows. Remember that he is the Rainlord. Bows don't work too well in the rain. Also, WE smith can forge imbued weapons for Karana followers.
No Choice to Us
# Sep 29 2002 at 12:31 AM Rating: Decent
I am a quite old Ranger, in EQ year, my main is now over 3 years old and this choice for race/diety specific item crafting or culture tradeskill was not offered at that time. I am forced to buy one of these bows made by a character of lesser age, it really isn't fair, but that's how the game is.

I hope verant will one day patch in something that the Half-Elves could do, at least have the same abilities of the Humans in making armor, or maybe make a Class specific recipe, would make sense that a seasoned Ranger of Tunare or Karana would know how to make a better bow than the Wood Elf Druid.

Just my 2 cents in there.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 20 2002 at 5:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The thing to Remember is verant goes by the numbers. if 50percent of all toons made or being played are Tunare worshipping **** then verant will make sure they keep the larger portion of these classes/Races happy. Woodelf Ranger/Druids worshipping tunare is the largest amount of druids/rangers in the game. People pick those because instead of being themsleves or different they only go by what stats/items are out there.
RE: Screwed

Umm...OK

I may be wrong Dreadar, but if I was going to make a druid or ranger only based on the highest stats available, wouldn't my best choice be a halfling and not a woodelf?

Halfling Ranger -75-85-105-90-85-67-50
Wood Elf Ranger-70-75-105-80-85-75-75

Halfling Druid -70-85-95-90-90-67-50
Wood Elf Druid-65-75-95-80-90-75-75

(stats are listed STR-STA-AGI-DEX-WIS-INT-CHA)

Take a look at the numbers and you will see that the only areas where a halfling does not at least tie, if not exceed, a woodelf, is in charisma and intelligence (do rangers or druids really need intelligence anyways?). In every other area they are either the same, or superior to woodelves.

I will agree that there are far more, and far more superior, equipped items for worshippers of Tunare than there are for worshippers of other gods. However, your main focus seemed to be that people pick woodelves because of superior stats, which just isn't the case I'm afraid.

So, if being a woodelf druid makes me a lemming, does sticking your head in the sand and ignoring the facts make you an ostrich?

Yes I would have to agree that halflings make better rangers and druids at low levels before you start acquiring stat enhancing gear to compensate. halflings have better racial advantages as well. The only racial ability woodys have over halflings is high forage, and druids and rangers get this skill anyway so the halfling can catch up fast.

The drawbacks to halflings? They follow Karana, so they don't get the Tunare only quests and items. Also, they wear ONLY small armor. Woodys get small AND medium. This may not seem like a disadvantage, but there are a few items like purity belts that can't be equipped by shortys because they are considered medium sized not small. Halflings also do not get the wood elf cultural fletching for making all those awesome bows and arrows you see the wood elf fletchers making. Both races get cultural armor making but I think the wood elf stuff is better for rangers and the halfling stuff is better for druids.

They are outcasts...get used to it and suck it up...We born a half breed and always will be half breads. And has I've heard in this chat. Suck it up...you made your blood now live with it..Nice bow...Does anyone know if I can make this for my friends if the special fletching kit is made for me...223 skill in fletching and would love to let Kretekk have one on Drinal

Listen to all the Karana Rangers complaing about not being able to use these Blessed Faydark bows. Well guess what, no one forced you to chose Karana as your deity, or for that matter a half elf/human/halfling as your race. Grow up, at least you all still can use Swiftwind and Earthcaller eh?

# Jan 09 2003 at 12:15 PM Rating: Decent
Alot of Karana Rangers were in this game BEFORE SoV, new diety bows, and such. Tunare content was added much much later.

I think that Karana Rangers just want a fair shake compared to Tunare Rangers. You can extend the agruement to all non-Tunare Paladins compared to Tunare Paladin with respect to Nature's Defender...a MUCH easier sword to get and comparible to the Paladin epic. Allows non-uber guilded Tunare Paladins to by-pass the dragon books part of epic quest.

VI does love it Tunare worshippers.

So, instead of the "grow-up" statement, take a step back and look at development of game. I am SURE your perspective would change if Karana Rangers would get items FAR FAR better than any Tunare Ranger could imagin.

I think all this contorversy over why Tunare worshippers get more gear can easily be explained. Tunare cares more about her followers than Karana does. Most Tunare followers have at least some kind of elven blood in them and if you look at pictures of Tunare you will see she does have elements of both wood elves and high elves in her appearance and is said to be the creator of the elven races. Karana, is just an old geezer who makes rain and is not reputed to have created anybody. Maybe if Karana had created a race of his own, he might care about them a little more. Does Bristlebane care about any race more than the halflings? Does Brell care about anyone other than dwarfs and gnomes? Does Veeshan even know there are bards that worship her? Does Rallos Zek lift a finger for anyone other than trolls and ogres, and does Cazic Thule care at all that he has followers, except for maybe the iksars? There's your explanation right there. Tunare is a nurturing mother type who cares for her children, Karana does not.

Race vs Class
# Jun 03 2002 at 2:39 PM Rating: Decent
Why the heck can't VI make items that can only be made by a certain class (and I don't mean Quests that only a certain class can complete, althought that would be something at least.) If you can have the fletching kit check Race before the combine, it sure ought to be able to check class instead. It makes no sense whatsoever that a Wood Elf Druid can make a bow that he can't use, but that a Half Elf Ranger can't make that same bow. The bow is the signature of the Ranger Class and the best ones should be made by them, not by Druids.

I hate to be the person to bring this up but it has to be said...

JRR Tolken/AD+D

Life Span
Full Elf - 1000+ years
Half Elf - 200 years
Human - 80 years (being generous)

In 1000 years and having a close nit culture, it stands to reason they Woodelves would be able to LEARN to create a masterpiece of magic bow creation.

In 200 years Halfelves with some culture could possibly learn from a woodelf, if they would talk to each other, unfortunately the woodelves consider half elves an abomination.

In 80 years Humans are lucky to be fletching 21/39 range 200 bows.

I applaud players who choose Humans and especially Half elves, as those would be tough to roleplay. As it is I have trouble just getting in the spirit of Wood Elf.

Too bad Wood-Elves couldn't create version of this bow for our Allied Races.

Safe Journey,

Ummm, have you ever READ Tolkein?! First of all, you misspelled the name. Secondly, Elrond is a half-elf and he was close to 2000 years old. In both the book AND the movie, Bilbo was well over 100 at the beginning of Lord of the Rings, and Elrond was old when he first met Bilbo in the Hobbit, thus leading us to the conclusion that Elrond was over 200 years old. Add to that the fact that Elrond helped destroy Sauron the first time, he would be ancient. Take a look at the bloodlines and familial histories available in The Similiarian for further evidence.

It's JRR Tolkien. Yes, Elrond, and his brother, Elros were "half-elves", however they were both given the choice of what race they wanted to be of, Elrond chose elf, thus his 2000 +/- years, Elros chose man, but was granted a longer lifespan (500 years) than most men.

Lifespan considered, in all fantasy despite life limitations, humans still tend to be the most powerful wizards. Why is that? The humans ability to learn quickly makes up for that gap. Not to say elves are slow by any standard but to say that races are able to craft certain things dependent on how long they are able to live is totally untrue. Elves just tend to be more magical by nature (in most fantasy) and therefor craft 'more powerful' weapons/armor. And, anyway, I am almost positive they might not consider any roleplay value (if at all) when designing weapons and or armor. I still dont understand why Verant thinks casters should wear dresses. I could understand ceremonial type events, but my everday ranged combat casting... I would like some decent clothes. Maybe then they will stop making fun of me!
RE: Race vs Class
# Aug 28 2005 at 10:05 AM Rating: Decent
You missed the point, it's not a "learning" ability or whatever. It's AMBITION! Elves live for centuries and thus do not hold onto every second the humans and half-elves do. The wood elves tend to be pretty introverted and their culture advances very slowly while humans and half-elves advance. So, whoever said that wood elves would learn more in 1,000 years are wrong. Half-elves would likely have the knowledge their parents had and would build upon that faster than them with their human ambition and that clock in their body telling them they have 200 years to live to the fullest.

So no, half-elves would have the better weapons going by that logic (faith weapons like Tunare and Karana however are different).
RE: Race vs Class
# Aug 05 2002 at 10:11 PM Rating: Decent
Both are well said...but High elves are the ones that live to 1000 years..they are the book worms of AD&D. In EQ..if half elves would be able to use Elven only gear..then why not give them human only gear as well...mmmmm...everyone would be a half elf because of best of both worlds...as a half elf..I think it sucks that I have no cultural items to make...would be fun...but, on the other hand I wouldn't give up my night sight or my added stats for either human or elf. All are well spoken for..empressed with the balance..only thing I dont like is that Rangers are known for the bow and they get screwed by not having a bow better then a warrior or rogue can use(that I have seen). Although our ability to do double, triple and crit's (thanks to AA skills) are very nice when it comes to a bow. Haven't met a warrior yet with any bow that can do over 200dmg with one. Honored to be a ranger.

Sorry if I'm whining but it just doesn't seem fair to me...

Ummm... You CANNOT use Range attack while Auto Attacking so it would be either or not both to use.

Perhaps a single shot from each type by loading hot buttons into your hotkey pad then just clicking each one.

Then again, I supose I can see a Halfling Druid who hasn't done a Ranger bow kiting wouldn't necessarily know this. ;)

what you are forgetting is that 95% of the time archery is not about doing dmg....it's about hitting the mob without being in it's face, and this "crap" as you call it has a 200 range....use it with some cheap 150 range flight arrows and your bow has an insanely long range....or if your really into it you can make some nice custom arrows....I may not have kept up on my fletching skills lately but I do know that if I can sell a 150 range darkwood bow for 2kpp+ then this 200 range bow w/stats and pretty standard dmg/delay would be worth a hella lot more and this is definitly a good bow....espically since it's not Ranger only...../rude @ Rangers
