(Less so but still) Broken!
# Jul 09 2005 at 7:50 AM Rating: Decent
OK. As of the most recent patch it is now:

MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM NO TRADE
Slot: PRIMARY SECONDARY
DMG: 7
DEX: +3 INT: +3 HP: +5 MANA: +10
SV DISEASE: +5 SV MAGIC: +5 SV POISON: +5
Recommended level of 10
WT 1.0 Size: MEDIUM
Class: NEC
Race: DEF
Slot 1, type 7: empty

And because of the damage stat you still can't put it in your secondary slot...
RE: (Less so but still) Broken!
# Jul 14 2005 at 12:56 PM Rating: Decent
As of July 13th, the damage is gone and I was able to move it to my secondary slot.

Yay!
Previously it was H2H for me, and I had gotten up to a very proficient skill of 2 by slapping zombies with it.
Super Nerfed!

This quest got super nerfed after they upgraded the newbie quests. Now instead of the good stats it had it's just a crappy 1hb weapon. Totally not worth the time anymore.
Broken!
# May 30 2005 at 6:11 PM Rating: Decent
Broken as of at least May 22 (based on post to newbie forum on Station).

Now shows as a Delay 31, Damage 7 1H blunt weapon with no stats bonuses.

And of course if you've had it in your secondary slot you won't be able to re-equip it if you have a weapon in your other hand!

I did not keep track of what undead (skeletons with titles) dropped the tome pages. However, I killed them with my higher level character and switched over to my low level Necromancer to loot them. I managed to obtain all 4 pages inside one hour. It can probably be done in 30min, depending on spawn times. I went LD a few times due to a bad connection.

Unfortunately, my Necromancer is only level 8 at this time and cannot turn in the pages until level 10. I look forward to the reward.

You can solo the Undead Stewards as a lv8 necro. Just make sure the pet is full health and you have a decent amount of mana.

A couple of lifetaps, a poison bolt, a pet heal or two, and an undead nuke and you have some fried skele for dinner.

Excellent experience, as they were all red to me. I finished this quest just a few blues away from 10.

this is a good item dont get me wrong... who ever said that it will probably get nurfed caus eits too good ffor a final task... ur definitely wrong. take a look at us gnome casters...wizards mages and chanters who r good...we get spell book of the eldritch collectice which is just as good.. it looks exactly the same... can be stored in both melee slots, the stats are:
LORE ITEM MAGIC ITEM NO DROP
Int: +5 Cha: +5 Poison Resist: +5 Disease Resist: +5 HP: +10 Mana: +20
Weight: 2.0 [ also after last patch the HP is now up to 20 instead of 10 ]

For god sakes ppl. Stop comparing the DE necro's book with the good gnome's book. They're for two totally different races and classes. Who cares which is better. For a NECRO it is very good. If people are playing a necromancer, they don't want to know all the stupid stats for a wizard, enchanter or magician. So take your comparisons to another forum.

dumb ***, his response is something that i look for, and could lead my way on a quest of books and knowledge i seek. Just by giving names of other books, helps my quest for books.

Wow. This is mighty nice in stats. I haven't really read the quest yet but as long as it doesn't involve camping some rare mobs that only drop the quest items once in like 100 times then this would be a very nice stat boosting thing for being free.
Where they spawn.
# Nov 24 2002 at 6:16 AM Rating: Excellent
I did this quest today, and here's the facts as far as I found out.

Undead Stewards spawn near the Lavastorm zone, to the west of it in the area where the 2 Dark Elfs sit at a camp fire.

I cleared out the entire area there to make certain I killed any Placeholders. What I found out was this...

Undead councilmen, rotting citizens and other common mobs seem to roam around freely, same with the halfling skeletons.

The Stewards always spawned on me at the square rock at loc +2125 +850, on the flat area there. They seemed to spawn 2 at once, and I killed them outright, so not sure if they might roam after they spawn. Not sure if they have placeholders or if they are just slow spawns, but I did notice some of the common mobs and the halfling skeletons spawn at that loc as well.

The Undead Annalkeeper has nothing to do with the Stewards as far as I could find out, and he spawned more to the west of the two Dark Elfs and he always roamed around instantly after he spawned. He drops a tattered journal pg. 1 thru 4, not sure what those are for.

Tome is great and very nice in combination with a Tome of the Magistrate which drops in Scarlet Desert :))

Enjoy =)

Thanks,

BTW, the Undead AnnalKeeper's journal pages are for the DE Cleric quest -

The Stewards seem more commone than the Annalkeepers in my opinion.

Not really inline
# Nov 07 2002 at 4:11 PM Rating: Decent
I like it. I did it with my noob DEF necro.
But... it really is NOT in line with the other "final task" series of noob quests.
Not sure if SOE will ever fix this to be crummier and more inline with the others or not.
RE: Not really inline
# Apr 11 2004 at 12:35 PM Rating: Default
If by "not in line" you mean that it is not a weapon like all the other final tasks, then you're correct. It would seem most plausible to give one of the classes least likely to melee a non-weapon final task. In fact, it would make more sense for SoE to fix the other caster classes final tasks (i.e. mage, wiz, enc) so that they are non-weapon as well with more stats on them, since this item is supreme compared to the garbage other casters get (generalization really.)

Some may think this is a weird statement but for me I would take this over a spirit tome anyday. This looks like an NPC drop to me. I helped my brother quest for this with my Dark Elf Wizard. He was ecstatic...I was dissapointed at my dinky little dagger I got. Even though it's no drop I'm still begging him if I could have it. :-)
My, my, nice book
# Aug 23 2002 at 1:02 PM Rating: Default
Last night while speaking with my guildmasters, I was given the charge of completeing this tome. After a few minutes of gathering information, I set off to look for the pages. Awhile back my best friend and lover had done battle with the Annal Keepers, which seemed to drop pages, so we decided to see if they dropped what I needed. We set out, doing battle with many zombies and skellies. They were simple, and soon I had my pages. A word of advice, be careful. Bring a friend, be it a warrior, Shadow Knight, or a cleric. Another necro will only get in the way. Also, if anyone can figure out what the two dark elves are there for at the place where the pages drop, I would appriciate it.

Xvarian, The answer to your question is that the two DE's are at that location waiting to die. I don't recall which Guild area discusses this story (Rogue or Necro most likely) but the basic premise is that those who are dying in the DE society and have failed their respective Guilds, go to those grounds to await their passing. From their remains come the Undead that wander through the area. Failure in life means servtitude in the afterlife.

In my opinion, this is by far the best newbie weapon quest of any of the cities that have them. +5 INT is good for a level 10 necro, and 20 mana adds even more. Also, the +5 STA is nice. The quest is relatively easy, just sit at the Ultricle waiting for the stewards to spawn (kill the annalkeepers or else they won't). I got page 3 from the first one I killed, then 4, then 3, 3 different pages from the first three. Then it took about ten more stewards before I finally got the 2nd page.

Great work on this quest, I hope to see more like it.

I have no problem with people getting nice things. Hey, I like nice things too! The only problem I see is that sometimes everyone can't have the same nice things or even similar and in a situation like this, I don't think that that is fair. I agree, this is quite easily the best newbie class item. Now, I have yet to get my final task completed (I have had a bear of a time getting woven widow silk, Large Widows just don't spawn too much in Toxx), but from what I have read, the stats on the staff are very poor, especially compared to this wonderful item. Why is it that our final quest gives such a lackluster reward and this one such a great one?

That is my only question really.

Maybe I will just start over and make a Dark Elf.... Nah, I like who I am.

Just so no one thinks I am making anything up, here is the link to our "final reward": https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=14043

Well, it might be that later on, there are a few nice quests for Necro that can ONLY be done by Erudites. I don't know, it seems the same with Cleric quests, the Newbie armor for High elves are much better than the ones for Dwarf clerics.
Not a bad item..

Finished this quest after weeks of waiting for the 4th page to finally drop. Just kept killing the Stewards until I collected all four pages. Just as a friendly reminder to those who do this quest, you are asked for Tome Inserts Page 1, 2, 3, and 4. Not the Journal Pages as those are for the Cleric Quest. Very nice item over all, and I like saves and HP bonus for when I'm Liching (because every little bit helps). Just my two coppers :)

I was able to solo the mobs for this with an 11 necro, so eight would be possible in a group, maybe solo, if you get lucky. I kept getting adds. If you get too many, don't wait til the pet dies, just start running for the Lavastorm zone. the guard there will help you.

It took me a few hours to get all 4 tome pages. Seemed like pgs 2 and 3 dropped commonly (saw 3 or 4 of each), and I only saw 1 and 4 once each. Pg 4 I actually got from someone else's kill, since they already had it.

This is nicer than my Tome of Unseen Darkness, since it has AC, and I don't have to unequip it to buy and sell. Also, 20 mana is awesome. Add in the mana I gained off the four pieces of the armor I quested, and I have gained something like 8int, and 20 mana (net, the tome had 10 on it) thru these quests (the armor all replaced raw silk). All very nice stuff, and better than a friend had at lvl 24, a year ago, when I started my first character. Quite a bit better than some of the other "final task" rewards. (Human pallies get a 7/27 longsword, with no stats, which is a joke since I have seen Blackened alloy longswords for as little as 30-50pp, and they are 10/29.)

Mana on low level items is sweet, since at lvl 10, 1 int is only 2 mana.

This item blows away all the other class weapons acheived through these newer quests.

The gnome Wiz/Enc/Mag have a book that is on par with this however.
