I recently stumbled across this listing in Alla, and tried researching the item. Not much help there. Customer service had this to say:

Quote:
Hi Ssratha,

We believe the Grimling War events are functioning correctly. The Grimling commander is likely spawning at the end still. As for the Possessed Sacrificial Club, unfortunately we cannot discuss the contents of mob loot tables. However, if the item is on the loot table, it should still be dropping.

Hopefully this information helps answer your questions. Please feel free to contact us in the future if any other problems arise.

Safe adventures,

I have been doing research on the Grimling Wars, a series of events from the Luclin era and was unable to find any solid details. I'm aware that customer service is unable to provide much in the way of information on quests or NPCs, however I think my questions fall into the realm of questions that can be answered. In order of importance, they are:

1. Are all of the grimling war events functioning as intended, with the ability to be completed?
2. Does the Grimling High Commander still spawn at the end of the final event?
3. Is the Possessed Sacrificial Club still listed on his loot table and dropping as intended?

I would appreciate any information you're permitted to provide regarding obtaining the club, even if it's not the answer to my questions, per se.

This is a CONFIRMED drop on Al'Kabor. (It dropped yesterday on the VERY first kill ever of the Grimling High Commander on Al'Kabor.)

Keep in mind that we have the original Grimling Forest and not the revamped one. I have no idea if the Grimling High Commander still spawns PC side.

However, I suspect that some of his drops still exist on Claw of the Khati Sha. (Someone said the Tome of Grotesque Rites drops off of her in a post on that item PC side. It is also a confirmed drop off of the Grimling High Commander on Al'Kabor.)

If you're serious about seeing if the Claw of the Khati Sha drops it, then you'll need to do all the raids PC side again and again and again and see what drops the Claw drops.

I've updated the Grimling High Commander's loot table. I've identified 5 specific drops from him, all 5 of which are confirmed (I checked with my own eyes on all five drops).

I'm very curious to see if the Claw of the Khati Sha and his drop tables are the same, but I have no way of knowing as I just play on AK. If the loot tables appear to be the same, then likely this club drops off of that mob. Though, I can see the developers removing it due to it being simply the BEST haste proc on a weapon for years and years post Luclin.

The Grimling High Commander was the 'boss' mob that you would kill to win the final Grimling War, and get the key to Inner Acrilyia. This was one of his 'random' drops. With the opening of IA, the removal of the wars, and conversion of the key to a charm... no idea if this even drops now.

I'm sorry to flame people for this but i came here looking for info on the item, where exactly it drops what lvl mobs how tough the mobs are, for ppl that have it to share thier experience of how they got it how many ppl it took etc.

Sadly what I found was an arguement about clerics meleeing and then later moaning about SKs and palas not being real tanks. I wont put my opinion on those arguements down as they are not relevent to the topic that should be here.

Hopefully if i check this again I will find some relevant information here.

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 11 2002 at 1:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have a 54 Warrior, 52 Druid and a 35 Monk. Just so that you know, I am familiar with Melee and non-melee do's and dont's. As a Druid, my role is clearly defined before the party starts hunting, or as I join. If I felt the urge to whack the mob, it would be at the approval of the tank. But I have not even thought about that since I was in KC and got spanked down while attempting that stupid notion. As you all know, typical non-melee chars don't have the HP's to stand toe-to-toe with mobs especially if they are 50+ mobs that summon. My question is, why would a Cleric risk killing the whole group because of his urge to whack a high level mob? Any tank worth his salt would not allow this to happen. He would tell that fool Cleric to sit his butt down and med, or stun the mob, something other than standing there swinging a mace or club. IMHO, a Cleric's role is a caster/healer. What would the Cleric say to the group if the Mob decided to whack the Cleric to death, then destroy the whole group? If it was me, I would camp, then consider switching servers after that ***** up.

Well, if you look at the name, and then take a look at the zone bestiary, you'd come up with these:

A Possessed Battlelord 45 - 45 Monster
A Possessed Battlemaster 51 - 51 Monster
A Possessed Corpse 40 - 57 Undead
A Possessed Priest 45 - 49 Monster
A Possessed Warlord 62 - 62 Monster
A Possessed Warmonger

Now run on down there with one of your "over lvl 10" characters, kill a few of these, and see who drops it.

Btw, if discussing clerics melee skills is a waste of time, what would you call your own post?

I don't see much valuable information in it, just foul language, and immature ranting.

well i am not twinked i bought most of my crap, others just gave me most of my crap and i have literally spent 2k on items not even for me, and almost 2k on myself... at level 22, it's hard to say that at one point, you could have had 4k, especially being a druid who stupidly didn't put a beginning point into wisdom and goes OOM so fast, it kills undead cyclopses <actually they kill me... go figure>... and i am NOT TWINKED, but it's all about having fun and realizing that it is a game... myself, i had to learn this when i lost two levels after hitting them <17 to 18, then back down, then 18 to 19, then back down, then hit it again> and boy did i cuss out my group so bad they abandoned me in paludal caverns and i gated home, with my pride checked in at the door

I have a lvl 65 cleric with my Exarch title and quite a few more AA then needed for it. Now..i KNOW how to play a cleric.. and let me tell you all that speculate that trust me...clerics CAN melee and CAN melee very sufficiently. We get a summoned hammer in our 60's that will cause a very nice amount of dmg. on proc's alone. The Proc was recently nerfed i think but i can do upwards of 150+ dmg with my ID4 belt and crit on proc blasts with AA ability in CF. When in a normal BoT fight i can stand there, Yaulp5,melee, and guess what....gain mana almost as well if not better then sitting. I can proc my hammer anywhere between 7-20 times a fight..multiply that by say an average of 80-100 dmg. per proc and melee dmg and bash dmg and its actually nice DPS... and YES i CAN heal my group and all that jazz while all of this is going on..its really not that hard to any seasoned cleric. So finally...SHUSH all you lamers that want to just talk a bunch of head like they are all knowing. Furthermore..people play this game to have fun, if the cleric in the group gets more enjoyment out of the game from swinging his or her hammer silly then SHEESH let them, whats the worry as long as they are not doing it when medding should be done

If you are only healing once every 3 battles then you're group is fighting WAY below their ability level.

Try hunting in a zone appropriate to your level and get back to doing your job of healing the tank.

Enchanters melee?!? Please... Take the same advice and hunt in a zone appropriate to your level.

Umm i think it is you that are the moron. I know many caster/priest classes that do good damage in melee combat. I myself am a 60 enchanter with primal velium brawl stick, and i will melee, and do so quite often. Being as in most raids; the mobs either cannot be mezzed, all the people are hasted and have KEI, I'm near full mana, and/or when I am OOM i melee instead of sitting because sitting would create the aggro to get me killed. I have 2h blunt skill 110 (max) and offense 140 (max). It might not sound like a lot to many people, but when I take out my epic to haste myself, i can then with the brawl stick be doing 120+ damage easy every few seconds when the avatar is on me. But anyway, how did we get on the topic of meleeing casters. This item can't even be used by a priest/caster. lol

#REDACTED, Posted: May 12 2002 at 6:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Big f'n woop you got a velium brawl stick and you melee as a chanter. The reason this particular cleric is a moron is because I don't care how good a weapon you have and how high your AC is as a cleric. YOU WILL NEVER OUT TANK OR OUT DAMAGE ANY MELEE CLASS. Even rangers. I have a 20 22 weapon in my PRI slot and the only thing I melee is jackels in Sro that aggro me. If your a 50+ cleric and you melee you need to delete your toon and start a friggin melee because If your a cleric in my grp and you start to melee i'll disband quick as I can hit the button. It is a novelty for a cleric to melee during down time or in situations where *shudder* you have 2 clerics in your grp. Clerics are not a melee class folks get over it sit your but down med, heal, med, buff. This is your chosen fate. Deal with it.

He didn't say clerics couldn't solo, he said sit your *** down and med when you're in a group. I get very nervous when a cleric starts to melee (unless we're pharming greens or something). I don't care how well a cleric knows how to be a cleric, I know how to be a tank. Worrying about my cleric being retarded isn't something I feel like doing most of the time.

Well, in most cases you'd be correct, a cleric cannot outdamage a melee class in melee combat. However, take a look at the weapon Dawnfire, morning star of light. I'm not saying a cleric should melee all the time, but if you can't sit down anyway, might as well whack it a few times, and if the proc goes off, its a free nuke.

People all have their narrow views of different classes. I hear: clerics can't melee (they can, just not well, but it works in certain situations), clerics can't solo (total BS, although the downtime makes exp no faster than in a group, unless you have KEI). Warriors can't solo without fungi above lvl 20 (again, hogwash, mine does fine at lvl 35).

A few examples coming from my own experiences:

Meleeing cleric: using Dawnfire in Karnor's, when you have multiple mobs and no chanter. Might as well assist the main tank, becuase the other mobs aggro anyone who sits. Proc does awesome damage, can proc 2 or 3 times in one fight. Tell me over 1600hp in one fight doesn't outdamage some melees.

Soloing Cleric: City of mist. awesome spot to solo, root and dot works great on undead here. The few live mobs can be root nuked, although that can drain mana. Have also used root nuke, or even kiting on mobs in Dreadlands (I use Jboots, although you could do it with SoW) but found KEI is necessary to get exp decently fast.

Soloing warrior: Goblins in HK have been good to me, have help LR solo at 28, and GR solo at 34. Helps to have sow potions, and know when to run to the guards. Also need lots of bandaids.

Yes, I know that clerics and warriors are not the best soloers. No I don't want to create new characters. I like playing these guys. Usually I prefer to group. Every now and then, I either can't find a group, or am feeling antisocial. In those cases, I solo.

The people who have the narrow, group role only view of their characters are missing out on the richness of playing everquest. Try doing something a little different for once, its fun. Go somewhere other than loio>FM>OT>DL>Karnor's. Play your character a little differently. Let the chanter pull (they're actually quite good at it, and it lets their pet melee). Mix it up, open your mind a little.

Yes, On raids, and against boss mobs, do your proper role, but in grind groups, enjoy yourself.

What mob drops this and what type of force (group or raid) would it require to down the mob that holds this?

Thanks!

Bah, nevermind - I found out that you need a keyed force or something, and it's nothing I could do an open raid for in a million years. Oh well.

Clerics can melee
# May 09 2002 at 5:36 AM Rating: Default
Clerics can melee if they want. Its their character and they can play it as they want. If that doesn't suit you then maybe you should be finding another group.

The healing demand on clerics largely depends on the situation they are in, the rate and level of pulls and the quality of tanks.

If they have the mana to spare then why not melee or nuke?

With good tanks clerics can comfortably sit around 80% in tough zones like CT and Ssra. CH is efficient normally, but insane with a competent group. Crowd control and slows free up a lot of mana.

#REDACTED, Posted: May 09 2002 at 7:36 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Why not melee? Because healing in itself creats alot of hate, and a wise cleric doesnt really want more hate. Nuke before you melee, there are several very nice cleric nukes.
RE: Clerics can melee
# May 09 2002 at 10:04 AM Rating: Decent
As Sparks mentioned, clerics can only melee in the right situation. The right situation would be when the group is flowing smoothly and the main tank is maintaining the aggro so the cleric is only having to heal one person.

At high levels, I would expect a main tank to be able to hold aggro from a meleeing cleric.

# May 09 2002 at 10:01 AM Rating: Good
A wise cleric also keeps his weapon skills and offense/defense skills maxed. Should you start to get attacked you can take a few hits and let the tanks get the mob off you ( or root it and nuke the crap out of it) rather than run around like a little girl. (You know who you are...) I have a 47 cleric that can hold his own in a fight if need be and does quite well soloing high level undead.

agreed. in raid situations a warrior is essential coz of defensive, but in most day to day groups i end up doing all the tanking. lvl 55 and i got 1075ac and 2500hp unbuffed and i am usually assigned main tank for the group. sure, we may be lacking in the overall offensive side, but if a pally or sk wants to keep agro, no other class in the game will be able to take it off em except maybe another pally or sk. so whilst we hold the agro and let the "real tanks" beat the crap outa the mobs, we can let the healers have 1 target to heal instead of 5. hell, at 58 pallys are the 2nd best healers in the game and the 2nd best tanking class. we have our roles just as you "real tanks" have yours (except rangers, they just dragon fodder). dont judge a melee class by the damage output they are capable of, rather try to see the overall advantage of having them in your group. knights are too underrated...

I got to see a few 60 cleric tank a while ago. Was against the Avatar of War. The main tanks (all warriors) went down, due to cleric lag, and started chewing thought the clerics. It was impressive seeing a him execute a flurrys against those clerics corpses. Just cause they wear plate doesn't = Tank. The novelty of clerics tanking wears off pretty quick against real mobs, sorry.

#REDACTED, Posted: May 08 2002 at 11:38 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Plz, to think that someone would actually make a cleric with the idea of tanking at higher levels is a joke. A clerics main and only role should be to heal and support the Warriors, Pallies, and SKs, the real tanks. Theres a reason why these classes get better weapons and armor. Its because they actually are good at using them. So if your "battle clerics" wanna fight all i have to say to them is, "make a warrior". Oh and leave the pulling to the monks :P

Pallies and SK's are real tanks too. Just because they don't get the defensive disc doesn't mean they can't tank well. One of the things they are best at is redirecting aggro quickly from a hapless chanter or shaman that is tryin to slow the mob.

If that's the way they want to play their cleric, fine. Don't try to tell someone how to play their character. Personally, I tend to solo a lot, so if I did start a cleric - my main is a Beastlord - then I, too would be somewhat of a battle cleric.

If my Cleric isn't at full mana, he/she should be medding not melee'ing. If my Cleric is at full mana, I am apparently pulling too slowly and its time to pick up the pace ;)

I find it upsetting that this would be put on any item in the game. This is the worn(perm) effect on the offhand epic claw beastlords get. Its somewhat infringing to take an epic effect and put it on a dropped item.
This is a Combat(proc) and not Worn(perm) but it still should be unique to the epic.
A similar spell would be appropriate, but not something from an epic.

This is basically the same deal with Tolan's Sword, basically the perm effect of swiftwind more or less put in a proc. Besides the Beaslord epics aren't unique anyway, they're merely ranger epic clones.
