Bridle Trade in for Plat
# Feb 28 2014 at 1:18 PM Rating: Decent
If you don't want this NO DROP item, YOU SHOULD STILL LOOT IT!

The horse it summons is slow, but if you don't need the mount, you can sell the merchant Galic Amondson in the bazaar stables and he will give you around 49500pp for it. I just sold mine to him today.

Just hail him and hand him the bridle and he hands you the plat.
correct run speeds for horses
# Apr 13 2007 at 6:30 AM Rating: Decent
After a series of foot races with horses the following results were discovered:
the rope bridle is faster than foot with no buffs, but not faster than "Jboots", etc.
the silk bridles are faster than "Jboots", run 3, SoW and SoE.
The Chain bridles are significantly faster than the silk.
The SK and Pally AA horses are faster yet than the chain bridles!
We have yet to race with the ornate bridle dropped in SS, but when we get one, we will update the run speed for you! Hope this helps aid in your decision on which bridle to purchase. Happy horse shopping!

Pets and Horses
# Feb 27 2005 at 3:42 PM Rating: Decent
I've only been playing for a couple of months so pleeeese don't flame me. I have a Magician. If I buy a horse can his pet keep up with him or do I have to destroy and summon a new pet each time I make a long journey? Thanks in advance.... LJG

There is a spell you can get called Velocity. then pet can keep up a little better.

There's a waist item called Ribbon of Empathy that has Summon Companion as an effect. Much more convenient than ******* around with the spell.

If you are running across the zone to fight in that zone somewhere have your pet guard where he is before you run. Then when you get to your camp use summon companion. If you are just passing through zones either have him guard and he will zone with you anyway or just let him follow somewhere in the zone...he won't aggro anything. I would recommend having summon companion up anytime you are travelling with a pet up...that way if your invis drops and you need to kill a mob in transit you can bring your pet to your side. If you are using a "slower than sow speed" horse cast expedience on your pet and he will keep up fine. Summon Companion is a level 39 spell. If you don't have the spell yet i'd recommend you travel slowly through zones keeping your pet with you. Making a new pet and equipping him takes too much mana when you get to your fighting location. Starting a group oom as a mage kinda stinks. As soon as you get there your prolly gonna start getting pulls, so having your pet ready will be a plus.

Its my opinion. how bout that? Every post here is an opinion. Horses look better and more than likely smell better. Drogs are just plain hideous. Maybe if I had chosen an ogre or a troll then id have gone with a drog cause orges and trolls are just as unattractive. For all other races I think that horses add to ur chars appeal.

BTW- there are about 10 different ways to remove the ears. If u cant find one ur a tard and u should buy a drog. They look kinda retarded themselves.

You can target through the horse's head, besides... unless you're looking down all you see is the ears. Shrink twice, target with F buttons, play in 3rd person.... or how about this? dont melee on a horse!

Drogmors are hideous creatures, if someone offered to buy me one, I'd turn them down.... I'd rather have nothing than some mutated lizard, maybe I'm just vane.

With the exception of Iksar, you guys look cool on drogmors, not on horses.

LOL...some of you are flaming about how bad a horse is. Wrong my main is a 65 Paladin and I have my Holy Steed...My horses head doesnt get in the way at all. As far as targeting goes What paladin or SK tries tankin on a horse?!? none lol. as for a dragmor I think theyre too ugly to own one. forget it. If your horses head gets in the way then maybe your just too short for it and you need to go get yourself a pony =P lol. Anyways stop flamin a horse just because your not big enough to ride one. =P

if you shrink yourself x 3 horse head isnt visible.

drogmors also sway from side to side, some people dont like that, so its really just personal preference.

"Just so everyone knows ...... DONT EVER BUY A HORSE!!! Buy a Drogmor instead. The horses big fat head partially blocks your view and is a targetting nightmare. Drogmor heads dont block your view and are every bit as fast as horses. HORSES REALLY, REALLY SUCK!!! "

Targetting nightmare? F8 autotargets mobs while F1 -F6 targets group members..

yes, F8 targets the CLOSEST mob, but unless you use cycle target, you need to click other mobs. Some classes assume every just /assists the MA-puller, but certain classes (chanters-shaman) have to click to take care of adds etc. So i totally agree, buy a drogmar over a horse.

Hmm. . . .F9 anyone? Get yourself to a nice overhead view. . .and use your function keys and hotkeys for targeting. Esh, and my main is only 57. . .

I don't have a horse, but as for targetting woes I've set my E key to "use" (exactly like half life) so I can open doors, merchants, switches, whatnot and target mobs which the click of a button. Granted, it has to be directly in front of you, but it's not hard to just aim and click again. If there's too many people in the way then just target somebody on the outside and press 4 (which I've mapped a general "/***" hotkey to) and I'll usually get whatever mob I need.

It just doesn't seem like that big of a deal, honestly, just have to be proactive.

Another trick I have found for removing the horse head is too F9 twice. This view puts you right behind your own head. If you then right-click and hold while moving your mouse up, you view will then clear both your and the horse head. This view moves when you move and gives you a better overall view of the battlefield. I find this extremely helpful, especially in BoT. For a Cleric, nothing better, I love it. AND I don't have to sell back my horse for a LEEzard.

...Heh, well honestly, the horse's head barely gets in my way, I just got used to it. Also, I rarely ever need to click something with my mouse that the head would get in the way of. Personally, I like the look of a black horse on my necro, much better than a fugly drogmor =/, not to mention that drogmors are gigantic, it should really be about preference of look, not omg I'm useless and can't get around the fact that a horse head is at the bottom of the screen!(Really you should be targetting using your mouse very much, just /tar, /assist, click name in group or what not, and you can also scroll back with mousewheel, making the head being there pointless. I'd also note that when shrunk, the head pretty much isn't there anymore :)

I'm still saving for a horse atm... but I did the quest out of Befallen for the Ghostly Bridle and I rode it around for a bit to get used to it. The head in the way really isn't that bad, it didn't give me any targeting issues at all. I even kited Sergeant Slate around just to test it out. Only flaw is that it's much slower than my SoW, but enough money fixes that :).

That aside, Baramunk is correct though, /target and /assist is often more accurate. That way you aren't spending 15 minutes trying to click and whatnot. Especially with my moody optical mouse that likes to jerk around the screen :)

If you hand the bridle in to Wendal Amondson he will give you the money back for an unwanted horse.

You just hand him the bridle and he will give you a Bag of Platinum. You can then sell the Bag of Platinum to any store. Haven't tried to see if you can get better prices at different vendors, but that may be a good way to get more for the horse.

# Jan 23 2005 at 12:23 AM Rating: Default
Yes...different merchants pay different prices. Always sell bag to a merchant with highest faction as well as making sure your CHA is highest you can get it(110 is good enough). Gotta love Opal Encrusted Steins :-) Unfortunately players are selling these steins higher and higher now....used to be 10 to 25p...now it's 75 to 250p...
RE: Horse Trading
# Jan 25 2004 at 4:15 AM Rating: Decent
Just for the record...
Wendal will buy back a BLACK bridle;
Aldo will buy back a BROWN bridle;
Galic will buy back a WHITE bridle;
Hiklo will buy back a TAN bridle;
