horse speed for dummies
# Apr 13 2007 at 6:34 AM Rating: Decent
After a series of foot races with horses the following results were discovered:
the rope bridle is faster than foot with no buffs, but not faster than "Jboots", etc.
the silk bridles are faster than "Jboots", run 3, SoW and SoE.
The Chain bridles are significantly faster than the silk.
The SK and Pally AA horses are faster yet than the chain bridles!
We have yet to race with the ornate bridle dropped in SS, but when we get one, we will update the run speed for you! Hope this helps aid in your decision on which bridle to purchase. Happy horse shopping!

WEll heres the easiest way to explain it to all newbs nad or think people. Horse are mainly a symbol of wealth ushaley its a caster thing becaus they cna med and move(pluse it looks cool to be a wiz atop a horse nukeing) So casters ushaley buy the cheeper bridles becaus they dont use them for travel much just to move while med. You will raley se a chain bridel mabey ornate chain form a raid but people will spend 100k on something more usful than a horse(such as new spells weps armor ect) As far as the Sk/Pally AA it is worth the wait im still wating on my lvl 37 sk so i have a while to go. So all you people whining y are theis so expensive and will petition a GM or Soe to lower prices, just dont bother there just status symbol.

P.S Drogroms look cool but horses are the classic look and Sks ROCK

Actually, horses ARE NOT usually a symbol of wealth.

They are a necessary, or at least very useful, item for casters on many raids. Horses allow you to meditate without getting sit aggro.

They do not allow you to meditate while moving. If you are moving, casting, or have autoattack on, your mana regen rate is the same as standing. However, if you are standing still, you get the same mana regen as sitting, without the extra aggro.

If ANY caster thinks buying a new WEAPON is more useful than buying a horse, I would urge them to reconsider.

horses suck
# Jan 19 2004 at 2:35 AM Rating: Default
Just so everyone knows ...... DONT EVER BUY A HORSE!!! Buy a Drogmor instead. The horses big fat head partially blocks your view and is a targetting nightmare. Drogmor heads dont block your view and are every bit as fast as horses. HORSES REALLY, REALLY SUCK!!!

Drogmore, or rather, their drums (as opposed to bridles) are sold in the lighthouse in Gunthak.

It's a safe spot with vendors and a banker.

What's the least expensive horse or drogmoor that I can buy that is at least as fast (preferrably a bit faster) than my jboots?
RE: horses suck
# Apr 17 2004 at 2:31 AM Rating: Decent
The 27K Brown Leather Bridle and Tan Leather Bridle both provide a 50% movement speed increase, about 15% faster than the Journeyman's Boots and equal in speed to the Fabled Journeyman's Boots.

Selling bridles
# Dec 01 2003 at 6:06 PM Rating: Decent
How do you go about selling your bridle back?
I am hesitant to just give the bridle to the stable hand
RE: Selling bridles
# Jan 02 2004 at 5:11 AM Rating: Decent
The guys in the stable with names not the stable hands...you hail them and they tell you a color of bridle they take and then they give you a bag of plat and you sell that to get your money back.

Thats how you do it. He gives you a bag of platinum, which you then sell to a merchant.
Dismounting
# Nov 20 2003 at 12:34 AM Rating: Decent
Anyone know how to dismount your horse without having to make it disappear? In other words can you get off the horse but keep it there and not have to recast it? Would love to know the command for this =)

No, you cannot do that.

There used to be a bug, where if you shrunk on a horse, it would show you next to the horse, and "soandso's mount" became a targettable object, but they fixed that.
Worth it?
# Aug 29 2003 at 11:52 AM Rating: Default
are the rope bridle's worth the 10k for a warrior?

RE: Worth it?
# Sep 26 2003 at 10:51 AM Rating: Good
I would say no, save your money. I never see melee fighting from horses. From what I hear, you get the "too far away" message too often.

Horses are good for casters so they can get sitting med bonus to mana without the sitting aggro, and that's about it, unless you want to cough up 100K for the Selo's Speed Horse. Otherise, get Run3 or JBoots and save your money.

As someone replied below, both Paladins and Shadowknights get a steed as an AA. Now given that the Luclin boss mob horses are 85% movement speed increase, and that the AA horses are the fastest in the game, it figures that your AA horse will give you a movement speed increase of more than 85%! Definitely worth the wait!

Refer: White Ornate Chain Bridle and Black Ornate Chain Bridle.

Buy a 10 dose sow potion, for about 80pp. Replace it when its gone.

Horses really aren't that good for travel. My cleric uses a horse for mana regen/aggro purposes, but usually clicks it off when he travels. They stop and start slowly, steer with difficulty, get in the way in narrow areas (messing up other people's autofollow), and with the exception of the silk/chain bridles, are slower than sow anyway.

The only time I EVER travel on my horse is accross GD and FM, if I don't have SOE, as you take less fall damage while on a horse.

Paladin's and Shadowknights get the fastest horse in the game in the form an AA. (Holy Steed for you). Save your money, level up and get that AA! :O)

new mounts
# Mar 17 2003 at 10:23 PM Rating: Decent
Can you trade in a old brile for a drum to summon the new mounts?
Also, Do you get back your paying price for a bridle when you turn it back im?
RE: new mounts
# Mar 26 2003 at 3:11 AM Rating: Decent
No, you can't do anything like that, closest thing is maybe hand your bridle in for money back then use that to buy a drogmor. Also no you don't get full amount back (that wouldn't exactly be very merchantilistic). You get mabey 70% back i'd say could be less. But still thats good considering they don't have to give any back really. It just is cool when you buy an upgrade that you can get some money back for last one ;)

If you hand the bridle in to Wendal Amondson he will give you the money back for an unwanted horse.

You just hand him the bridle and he will give you a Bag of Platinum. You can then sell the Bag of Platinum to any store. Haven't tried to see if you can get better prices at different vendors, but that may be a good way to get more for the horse.

RE: SUX
# Feb 22 2003 at 6:20 PM Rating: Decent
Its not about the speed, at least not for me. I just want the sitting effects without the sitting aggro. If I want to run fast I've got run3.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 19 2002 at 12:05 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Gosh 30kpp is alot, I have around 30pp.
