I would take this BP over PSC anytime. I don't ever plan to tank unlike alot of other folks I know my role; I'm not a caster, I'm not a tank but merely a DPS. Stats are more important than AC when you reach the higher levels. I have never been to raid where they asked me to tank or any other hybrid. They would be foolish to do so cause there are plenty of War and SK to be meatshields. 8P so if u are going to ***** bout it don't say anything just go get u a PSC.

Raiding is not all life holds for us young one. Even at 61 I solo dark blue mobs quite a bit and melee right along side my pet. Been tanking and defeating 55+ mobs in ME quite successfully. AC still holds value for us. That said I think I would still prefer the savage bp over my old PSC because of better saves, hp and mana, not to mention a nice clicky effect.

PSC Vs this

Did anyone going off about the PSC try clicking on the spell effect at the top of the screen?
Bramble coat gives 18 AC, add that to the 20 on this that makes it a 38 ac BP, wich is BETTER than PSC. Infact if you were realy good, you could click this effect and then put your PSC back on. Think that puts an end to the heated ac debate going on here. I personaly would just use this BP as I feel the stats are better than PSC.

"Bramble coat gives 18 AC, add that to the 20 on this that makes it a 38 ac BP, wich is BETTER than PSC."

Actually, it's not. The base AC on armor gets a level/defense modifier, spell AC doesn't. You'll end up with higher AC wearing a PSC at level 60+ (not sure about before that) than wearing this tunic and using the click effect.

Still, it's a very nice tunic. If I ever get the drop for it ($%&@ leather drops!)I'll sell the PSC and use this.
Clicky vs. memmed spells
# Jan 02 2003 at 5:09 PM Rating: Default
OK, 10 second cast on an item you are wearing, vs. sit, find spell, mem spell, stand, cast, put back other spell you replaced.

First, if you time it right, 10 second cast means you only lose one tic of meditate. And I don't know of many situations where you naturally get more than 50 mana back in one tic. Maybe KEI and SP, but its a close call.

Secondly, the purpose of clickable items is for the efficiency. Instead of just eight spell slots, when I wear my skyshrine/Thurgadin quest armor, I have eleven spells available (12 if I ever get the velious quest replacement to my Anthemion Jerkin.)

Third, clickable items are refreshed immediately after use. So you can combine clickables or clickys and regular spells in groups to efficiently buff, e.g. click Leggings of the Beastlord for Health buff. When buff is cast, there is no delay before casting Deftness, then clicky savage bracer immediately after spell counter for Deftness finishes (no need to wait for spell refresh to re-pop the spell gems).

Great tunic

Kick *** tunic for a BST, I personally wont use psc for its one negative to save. Call me picky I don't care :)
Oh yea, I went to Tov first time tonight and got a BP & boots on 2 runs thru hot. Not bad for my first trip eh? This is a super upgrade to my acrylia tunic lmao.. mebbe I needed a new throw rug anyway
To all my fellow beastlords out there, I say get ye to temple veeshan. This stuff is worth it!
Plus you get to kill dragons, I mean what more could ya ask for? Get off your *** and quit farming the hill giants.. 'tis better to loot the good no drops than spend all your pp on armor you'd toss in a heartbeat when you get something better anyway

thats not a bad idea...although i will take the extra stats on this Tunic over the extra 8AC.

but to everybody complaining on how suke a Tunic this is, you must not play a Bst i guess....

If you rate this tunic by combining ALL the stats, there is only 1 Tunic in the game thats better..and its the best Bst/mnk Tunic in the game...
Wistful Tunic of the Void.....

and your odds of getting that are about the same as winning a lottery....

This is actually a considerably better tunic than a PSC....
gives more AC 39 vs 28...more HP bout 120 vs 60 (counting Sta) more Mana 90 vs Zero, gives a +3DS and weighs 4.5lbs less

I'd love to get this and i think it's slightly better than a PSC. The AC may be lower, but the bramblecoat effect will add to your ac about 20points, i believe.
I also don't think your ac should matter much if you're a BST. I usually sit back and let my pet do most of the work when i solo. When i'm in pvp, i never get too close to a melee, i just tend to kite em around.
I have to say, i agree w/ farstrider on this one.

The heck with what newbies and websites say about building alot of wisdom for Bst. Best thing to do coming from a lvl 60 Bst is to build them like a war as much as possible. These websites dont know what Bst should be because they never made one, heh. One website made up what they think Bst should be and the rest copied them. ***** running looking for Wis items and think thats gonna help you solo better, bleh its just a mana pool and you need to med all that back anyway. EQ loves that. They want you to med more, because that means you waste more time = more money spent out of your pocket getting less done. Might sound crazy but its true. Get ac,sta, dex, agi and you should be able to get 150 wis with epic easily, which is all you'll need... Period.

At 61 my Iksar beastlord has 197 Wis (with KEI). I solo forthe most part and walways tank next to my pet.
As for my other stats, well Agi (198) is the only one sitting below 200, with self buffs. Only non-self buffs I look for are KEI and Virtue.
Yes build your other stats by all means, but don't let your Wisdom fall short. Yes Beastlords may not need or use a lot of mana per mob, but when the **** hits the fan and you need to solo 2-3 mobs at once, the extra mana comes in very handy. It makes the difference between having to do a CR or surviving a bad situation.
RE: BST Armor
# Dec 02 2002 at 2:53 PM Rating: Default
A really well equipped beastlord should be able to melee right next to his/her warder without fear. However, should things go south, the beastlord should be able to back up and heal him/herself and his/her warder too. If 150 WIS wasn't cuttin' it for my beastlord at 37, I sure as heck don't see 150 WIS cuttin' it in the endgame either. Ultimately, the *right* way to equip your beastlord is the way that works best for you. If you prefer melee, go for it; build your beastlord as much like a warrior as you can, but remember: if beastlords were meant to be warriors, they wouldn't be limited to leather armor. Just look at the hp/mana boosts on this tunic... 80 hp, 90 mana... Proof enough for me which side of the coin needs more emphasis.

Its mostly your level, i find i have plenty of mana with around 162 wis at 55. 34-39 are some of the hardest levels for a solo beastlord. You'll do alot better with your new pet heal at 39
RE: BST Armor
# Dec 22 2002 at 1:22 PM Rating: Decent
Hmm because there is 10 more mana over HP on this tunic thats "proof" to you that Mana is more important than HP eh?
OK, to each his own....

But at higher lvls with your AA's such as
Double Attack/Frenzy of Spirit (99% Haste +250ATK)
Paragon of Spirit (1250HP/480Mana in 36 secs) combined with Spell casting reinforcement 3 gives 1600HP/640Mana in 48 secs)and you have your Spiritual purity +7HP/Mana regen, add to that you can get a Protection of the Glades +7mana regen, and KEI +14 Mana regen, and its dang near impossible to run out of mana...
I only have 120 Wis, and can hardly use my mana fast enough....

Best thing for a Beast to work on is uping your AGI & AC & Hps in that order...
That includes your AA skills of combat AGI, and advanced innate AGI....
a high lvl Beast CAN tank very effectivly AND put out considerably more DPS than a warrior to boot...
all "leather" means is you work on your AVOIDANCE as opposed to MITIGATION that the Plate classes work on, works out almost the same in the end, instead of taking less per hit, we just dont get hit..
Wis over 120 is more than ample as long as you have the proper AAs and buffs and Flowing thought items etc, it regens so fast you can hardly use it fast enough...
Is it a shareable effect?
# Aug 09 2002 at 5:09 PM Rating: Default
Who says this is a self-only buff? Maybe its a shareable buff, like leggings of the beastlord shares Health.

Which is it?

I want to know either way. If it is clickable for the group, its a good one to get, but if it is self only, I would pass on the roll rather than waste it on an effect I can't even share with my pet.
RE: Is it a shareable effect?
# Aug 13 2002 at 4:04 AM Rating: Decent
Spell is a self only buff. Its the druids AC/small DS line.
Is it worth it? Depends on how you play you BL I would say. If you like to solo, and throw your pet out front, then yeah it would be a waste to get this tunic just for the effect. I wouldnt mind having one for my BL... though that means I would have to try and get leather drops AGAIN... *sigh* cruel cruel world.

Goog BL gear is rare
# Jun 17 2002 at 5:20 PM Rating: Default
Do any of you really know what gear is available in EC for sale? I do. Not much and certainly does'nt even come close to the quality of this. If you were on Luclin server you would have one of the best tunics of any BL. At least almost every high lvl BL I've seen doesnt have a piece like this. Sure, you can make a list from all the gear they have posted on this website and WTB it all! pst. I've been there and done that. Most of it is so rare that, whoever finds it, is in a high profile guild and if your finding stuff like this (even though its no drop), why the hell would you sell it? It would just get passed down to a BL twink. I would. The heck with the PP when there so many other things to sell. Thats the problem with BL now, not enough stuff drop's for them and my BL suffers because of it. I'm not rich but for 20k pp I should be able to Upgrade my Acrylia Reinforced tunic. This piece here would make a huge difference on my BL, compared to the so so tunic I use and thats one of my best pieces. If you can find a Lore item with stats close to this, grab it and be happy.

For 20K pp you can upgrade your BP. You should be able to buy a Phase Spider Carapace for under 20K. That is if you can find one for sale. Better yet, get a group of 50+ people together and go to Dragon Necropolis and hunt the Phase Spiders. My guild has had 3 PSCs drop in a total of about 10 hours hunting in DN. I was lucky enough to get one of them. They are definately a nice upgrade to the Acrylia Reinforced Tunic. Good luck on the hunt.

BTW, I will gladly hand down my PSC once I am able to obtain the ToV BP. The stats and effect make it well worth the effort to obtain IMO.

I agree that the Phase spider carapiece is NICE for beastlords the ac on it is better than it is on the thurgadin/kael/tov quest armor. What i've learned is its really hard to come by high ac bst useable stuff. I still wouldn't mind the velious bp just for the effect.

Bst and ac
# May 20 2002 at 2:22 AM Rating: Default
Lets think for a second hear, lets give a monk great ac items, add that to their amazing damage output and who needs warriors ? same thing goes for Beastlords, if they had High ac they'd be almost unstopable, this being the reason for their low ac, another thing is they are a monk/shaman hybird, shaman being only chain, and monk is leather, so why would they have high ac anyway ?
RE: Bst and ac
# Aug 09 2002 at 3:55 PM Rating: Default
Let's think for a second here, ace. First of all, Beastlords don't have a little ability called "taunt." Second, they don't have a defensive discipline, which is huge; nor do they have double attack. For the first two reasons alone, beastlords could never replace warriors.
For crying out loud... the ac on this BP is 20. The Skyshrine warrior BP is what... 54 AC? Close enough...
Anyway, my point being, you are talking out of your ***.
And I think the point of this whole thread... PSCs are going for 10k on my server atm. The Savage Chestguard, which results from turning in a highly sought-after rare drop from ToV is about the same as a PSC (which drops at the ZONE IN of Dragon Nec)... that's pretty damn weak if you ask me. Hell for the price of the 3 flawless diamonds alone you could almost buy a PSC. Just doesn't compute.
RE: Bst and ac

#1: Look at the date on this post you twit. There was no level 61 at the time.

#2: Do you see many beastlords tanking the AoW with their uber lvl 55 "Protective Spirit" disc? I sure as hell don't. Also, see #1; we didn't have that discipline at the time the original message was posted.

#3: Concerning the AC of the two chestpieces, you're missing my point.

As far as tanking goes, BST are NOWHERE even close to warriors. I'm not going to reiterate, it's the truth. By arguing against that, you have branded yourself a dunce. This game is all about roles, and the warrior's is irreplaceable, especially by a beastlord.

I suggest you read the entire thread next time before attempting to make yourself look knowledgeable. I was responding to a warrior whining that the beastlord class esclipsed the warrior class, which wasn't true then, and isn't true now.

" Let's think for a second here, ace. First of all, Beastlords don't have a little ability called "taunt"

So?, actually with our warders which raises you on the targets hate list by 200points ie: Heavy Taunt, with thier procs, and considering a nicely equiped Bst+pet can easily outdamage a Warrior, then pop on a Slow a Debuff and a Poison dot and a lvl 60 Beast can get and hold aggro away from much higher lvl Warrior with ease... its a good thing a Warrior has Taunt to try and get the aggro back...

"Second, they don't have a defensive discipline"

Hmm you mean like our "Protective Spirit" disc at lvl 55?
where we only take 1/10th damage and can reuse every 7Mins.....

"nor do they have double attack."

yep wrong again....have to wait til lvl 61, and put in 2 AA points, but none the less, we still get Double Attack...Meanwhile our warders @ 60 QUAD for 68 & proc for 142DD +Stun & Bash for 26..
AND /shields me for 50% damage midigation once im below 50% health and buffed has over 3500Hp to go along with my 3200hp (buffed)AND i can back off, let him tank while I regen and heal him to full.
meanwhile the Warrior is sponging mana off the Cleric

"the ac on this BP is 20. The Skyshrine warrior BP is what... 54 AC"

actually its 39AC with a +3 DS for the Savage Chestgard, which is actually in more ways than one better than a PSC....

The ONLY thing a Warrior has over a Bst is Damage midigation AC being a Plate class....
Bst option for a Bst being a leather class is Avoidance AC (AGI)and just avoid the hits altogether instead of taking "less" damage....

This bp is very disappointing. The ac is honestly, crap. Even with the effect, the effective ac is only around 33 (remember that item ac does not get added 1:1, while spell ac does). Most beastlords who would get a shot at this bp would most likely already have a psc. Savage tunic with the effect is better than the psc...but the psc with bramblecoat is better than the savage tunic. If you can get your hands on a psc and wild lord's bp its much better to leave the leather drops to a druid. We are a melee class and we need ac. Unbuffed I have over 1k ac and can tank fairly well. For ToV armor...our armor is crap.

Have you bothered comparison shopping Beastlord tunics? Why dont you start with that then you'll realize you should shut up. Its 20 ac, with an 17ac spell so in effect its 37 ac.
Factor in the hps/mana/saves/stats and you'll feel really embarrased when you compare and contrast other tunics =)

I've had mine a while and it looks great on vah shir with the /dopropertinting on. The ac helps a lot and fully buffed I break the 1000 ac mark now. With full ToV on I can tank almost as well as rangers. (the last bit was a joke)

Anyhow, whoever said that Beastlords don't get attacked, you obviously have never grouped with us or watched us solo. Our melee is pretty good and if we are slowing and dotting then we are bound to get agro, especially with proccing weapons. :p

This BP effectively has 39AC folks... so BL's should not whine, and Maybe Verant should take a new look at some of the old stats (like monk, druid ranger etc...) allthough the effects are pretty damn good.

Honestly, giving BL's a effect that is not even from their class is pretty weird for verant. I am surprised.

5 less than a Treeweave. And, then, there's the fact that if a Beastlord has aggro in any way, it's on his pet, not himself.

I enjoy your kind of post; it's along the same lines as my watching religious shows. Dumb, but fun to watch anyway.

I was talking solely about the right-click effect and Saves. Poison and Disease are the hardest types of spells to resist, and also the hardest Saves to get equipment for.

As for the effect, I think the fact that most rangers I know, and most I see post about this topic, would rather mem the spell and use 50 mana per cast, than wait 10 seconds per cast, speaks for itself.
RE: Balance
# Apr 24 2002 at 12:40 PM Rating: Excellent
Sorry but your oviously clueless about beastlords. We were designed to fight along side our pets, not like casters and just buff them and heal. When we are in melee range the mob will ALWAYS be on us. It does not matter who has the highest hate on the hate list. The longer we can stay in contact with the mob the faster it will die. Beastlords not meleeing lose 50% of their DPS.

*sigh*. I guess I must suck at being a BST - because my Pet *always* outdamages me, melee-wise (well, not at the "border" levels). When I step back and play healer, I prolly lose only 35-40% DPS (since I am still nuking). I just compromise - cast spells, step in until I feel too badly whacked on, back off, and help at the final "kill" stage. If I wanted to sit down and heal my pet, I would have created a Cleric. Oh. Wait. My main *is* a Cleric :)

And on a sideswiping note, beating the proverbial dead horse: PLATE CLASS SS ARMOUR-AC:50+. CHAIN CLASS SS-AC:43+. LEATHER CLASS SS-AC:20. If you wanna whine about AC, then play a warrior. "I wanna have the same AC and damage mitigation as a warrior! And why won't Verant gimme snare and fear too?" Sheesh. The number of AC-rich Leather-class chests is extremely rare (like the Ancient Burrower Hide Tunic)

I'm gonna have to agree on this one, though I tend to live and let live and not cry about stuff like this :) I rarely use the CoE effect of my Forest Stalker BP mainly because the tradeoff of saving 50 whole points of mana isn't worth having to wait 10 seconds for it to cast off the BP... On a raid when i do a lot of buffing that would set me back so bad.

The loss of a spell slot isn't enough to get me using the effect either. Rangers have so many buffs that should be up at all times that I'm constantly swapping spells out regardless.

But on the Beastlord Velious BP's, grats to them. The coat line is a great spell to have on at all times for rangers and druids for the AC boost and the fact that the duration is so long keeping it up isn't a huge problem. If I played a Beast Lord I would love this addition to my self buff line up!

plus, monks have just as much right as a druid to the leather bp if it drops. if ye greedy druidfolk didnt notice, the monk BP does click a heal, for the soloing monk this could be quite a boon, after bandaging to 70%+ and then just clicking your bp til you get full hp. druids already have many advantages, and senority on a leather bp is something they will never, ever get without hard work. Oh, and before anyone ever ******* about an item procing their spell, go look at the bow and axe from Sleepers that procs Avatar... THAT spell costs an emerald to cast, this is just your wiennie lil level 14 DS.

I've gotta disagree. Bramblecoat is a very usefull spell. Its the kinda spell you'll want to have up all the time. The 3pt damage shield doesn't hurt, but the main benefit is the 19pts of AC. It also stacks with just about everything. If another 19 AC and 3pt damage shield could somehow be added to this items base stats, I bet you'd think it was pretty nice. The brambelcoat self only buff as a right click effect is basically the same thing.

Another great benifit of the spell is that it lasts almost an hour. As Farstrider mentioned it stacks with all other DS spells.
