New Server

All these little quests may seem like crap to you now. But wait till a new server comes out - these will be some of the best swords for a few weeks. =)

/agreed. this is a great sword for my little newbie war i have been playing on the side, i prefer not to twink and work on trade skills and quests to get my earlier equipment, that 10 sta is a big bonus for my newbie halfling war, and the ratio is much better than that found on any of the tarnished wpns i've been sharpening up to practice my skills with. you have to put items like this into prespective and realize this is a darn good quest sword for being attainable by lvl 8. 8)

High 20's? Hell I was using a pair of langseaxes until about my mid thirties, at which time I killed sand giant Husam a few times and upgraded to bbk's. These little warriors should be extraordinarily happy with this blade. (It almost makes up for them being short and not having high str/sta and racial slam...well, no....not really). :p

This will be the 'coup de grace' for the lower end items economy (as far as there still was one).
In the old world alot of this stuff would have been considered mid/high lvl gear heheh. Ofcourse I realised the worlds changed alot.
Why don't newbies jus spawn at lvl 10 with their hometown quest gear on? That'd save us a boring 90minutes getting to 10. (Or VI might wake up and see that such an easy learning curve realy isn't teaching much).
/shrug
Damn.

Better ratio than a Langseax, which used to be one of the main weapons newbie warriors used up into the high 20's...

Damn.

It seems as though there is a huge gap between the dark elf weapons and the halfling weapons. For example their warrior sword (Jagged Orc Slayer Sword) is 7/40, +1 sta/str and weighs 10 stone (and DE's aren't renown for their str or sta).

And the Halfling rogue dirk is 6/21, +1 str (which is better then some of the original mid-game items) while the Dark Elf pigsticker (Scaled Bone Rapier) is 4/27 +1str/dex. Thats better than a rusty spear, and thats about it.

But I can see why the halflings get such better weapons, seeing as how they level faster, have good faction, and have historically one of the best newbies zones, compared to the worst..

Huh?

While the newbie zone comment is a moot point now, I'm sure you see where I'm going with this. It wouldn't really matter if the halflings had slightly better weapons, but it would be nice if the Dark Elf weapons were /comparable/. Time will tell if all the other starting cities end up more like one or the other

Looks like Inkies get the shaft once again. My apologies to anyone who browsed through the posts to glean useful info and stumbled upon this.

Actually, I have noticed this a lot. But it seems like the unpopular race/class options are getting the better stuff. How many Halfling warriors are there compared to druids? I also noticed this in one of the dark races, can't remember which. Anyway, not only between races, but /within/ races between classes there are big disparities.

Yes, but remember, this is (we must assume) a part of the difference in difficulties that you incur by choosing to play a particular race/class. DEs have historically been one of the hardest overall races to play, as it warns you at character creation: "This combination is of HIGH difficulty." But I agree, that is one helluva gap between newbie quest weapons! LOL!!
RE: :/
# Apr 16 2002 at 8:58 AM Rating: Decent
True, but that 'difficulty' is fleshed out with an hard xp penalty. The point here is that Racial Quests for most races are so unbalanced that most of them might as well not even exist. Though some of these new ones go a long way towards fixing the imbalance, VI still hasn't come close to giving any race the advantage in quested equipment that the Iksar have. 'nuff said.

# Jun 25 2002 at 9:05 PM Rating: Decent
fyi, verant removed the exp. penalties a while ago.....halflings still get a bonus, but others, such as Troll SK's, no longer have any penalty....weapons are STILL way off though
RE: :/
# Mar 27 2003 at 8:31 AM Rating: Decent
No exp penalty? Bull. Make a troll SK, level to 12, go to paludal caverns and kill a white con, then mark your exp gain. Go make a human warrior and level to 12 as well, kill a white con ... there IS a difference in advancement.

They *might* have lessened the exp penalty, but it wasn;t enough to hide the difference. My 24 troll shaman, take longer to get a bub of exp than my brothers ogre shaman of the same level. We will pair up and fight mobs together, and note our exp advancement.
I have to get this

Hehe this weapon is not anywhere near as nice as what I have, but I must get it "just because"...the coolness factor is way up there. Ok, I'm easily amused, so sue me =)

Very strange how this weapon has a rather nice ratio as compared to the paladin weapon which is 5/30. Wonder why they did that...

Heh, and the Rangers got a 4/27 POS. But then again maybe they gave the rangers a crap weapon so that they won't die as much ;p

The Cleric weapon is also fairly nice compared to other newbie quest items, and ALL the halfling gear just puts the DE gear to shame. Why did I make a DE SK and an Assling Ranger again? Someone please tell me why.

Not only that from what I've seen of the other classes' armor the paladins got screwed on the armor too. WTF!? Do the people who worked on these quests hate paladins?!

Are u stupid or something, yea pallidins might get the bad end at earlier levels, but look at what they hae later on. They are the only class wiht an upgrade tot their epic, and they get all the beastly weapons with higher damage than delay in the planes and ToV. I honestly dont like paladins very much, but seeing the weapons that they can have makes me want to start one ASAP.

Paladins get LOH! Why do they need stat modifiers?

They get Lay on Hands? If you have ever grouped with a Pally, you would know that they can only use it once every 72 minutes. It doesn't make up for getting nerfed items, not by a long shot. A Pally with the same equipment isn't a match for a warrior in damage capacity, they just get other things to make up for it. But the disparity between these quest items is just insane. Even the halfling casters seem to get better weapons.

But I honestly can't wait to see if they export these quest to the other zones, in general they are a good thing.

really? Well my paladin in equal gear can waste a warrior.
