Thats just pitiful. Better off to just kill rats and sell tails for 1pp each and save up about 10pp and buy a sword in bazaar. There are a few swords that are better then this for 10 to 15pp.

Tails dont sell for that much anymore

I sold a plauge rat tail that droped off a large rat in qeynos for 1pp 4gp. so yes they do sell for that still.

I think it needs a little something else to be worth questing for.

However, I assume the reasoning behind the item's worth is that Halfling Paladins are probably the faster levellers of all Paladins. Thus they are balanced through a lesser version of the primary weapon.

If you were to give Halfling Paladins a better weapon, for non twinkies anyway, it would make the Halfling Paladins the quickest Paladins to level up early on.

Hmm... did a couple of damage calculations with Copelands Analyzer and here's what I found:

Bravefoot Short Sword = 84
Felwithe Defenders Falchion = 120
Deep Muses Defender = 134
Underfoot Defenders Claymore = 124
Rodcet Nife Defenders Blade = 120
Longsword of Marr = 115

Yes, the damage from the Halfling newbie Paladin weapon is sorely lacking but I suppose what you said is a good enough reason for VI to make it this way.

For those who might want to compare them, here are links for all of the newbie paladin weapon quest rewards:

Bravefoot Short Sword (Rivervale)
Deep Muses Defender (Ak'anon)
Felwithe Defenders Falchion (Felwithe)
Longsword of Marr (Freeport)
Rodcet Nife Defenders Blade (Qeynos)
Underfoot Defenders Claymore (Kaladim)

Did I miss any? I didn't find one for Erudin...

Erudites paladins don't have anything yet including their clerics and casters but Paineel SKs, Necros and Clerics have quest!! Go figure...
I look at it this way...

Even thought the delay and damage sucks, keep in mind it has stats, and it's a magical weapon meaning, you can kill wisps and make enough cheeze to buy a better one anyway
Well, Not as bad as everyone says

The background:

Well. Reading the posts on this weapon you get the idea that it is a horrible weapon ratio. But the math doesn't show it.

Rusty: 4 28 ratio 7
Tarnished 4 27 ratio 6.75
This 5 30 ratio 6

So the better weapon of all listed is blasted as being the worst, when it has the best ratio. I don't get it. Good weapon? No. The absolute rock bottom it's being called? No. Should you get better? Yeah.

THE REALITY AS OF MAY 21, 2002. :)

I went ahead and did the weapon quest at 11, got all the text, heard the "For those about to die..." speach, but decided, why not. It's better than even the tarnished. So what I got is very interesting to all who want to go after this thing. Maybe they patched it, maybe it was broke, maybe ... who cares here are the stats I got on it:

Bravefoot Short Sword
MAGIC ITEM LORE ITEM
Slot: PRIMARY SECONDARY
Skill: 1H Slashing Atk Delay: 28
DMG: 5
STR: +1 STA: +1
WT: 6.0 Size: MEDIUM
Class: PAL
Race: HFL

Now it's MAGIC. :) Much more useful, not the best, but hey as a no-twink, this is good enough (ratio 5.6) to start with. I like the 2 hander the Gnome pallys get better though, and it seems more likely for a pally to use, although I hate giving up bash until I get a REALLY good 2 hander. With a decent group you can get this before I did. Soloing the Assassin was not easy, and luckily I had bashing up pretty well before I took off at 11. But still had to lay hands halfway through, and barely got him running. Was worried night would fall on the slow walk back to rivervale. :)

Gee, for all that effort, (even though its not that much, but still, waste of time) why not just get a bloody rusty, seeing as how your gonna get rid of both of them by the time your lvl 10

Umm...

I really think Verant was working balance with these quests... I mean, it's so totally obvious.

Bravefoot Short Sword - Dirk of the Slickfinger
Damage: 5...............Damage: 6
Delay: 30................Delay: 21
Weight: 6.0.............Weight: 2
Stats: +1 Str, +1 Sta...Stats: +1 Str

See? The +1 Sta on the Short Sword makes for total class balancing.

P.S. If you can't hear the sarcasm, go read a book and open you mind.

Yes, you would have to be brave to use this weapon...
Not even Magic...
# Apr 11 2002 at 9:22 PM Rating: Default
If they had tagged it as a magic item, at least it would have been useful to untwinked low lvl characters. As it is, a 4/28 wt5.0 Rusty Short Sword out performs this thing.
Humor and irony...

The humorous thing is... with a Sharpening Stone, you can actually *upgrade* a Rusty Short Sword to a Tarnished Short Sword, and shave the delay down to 27!

The ironic thing is... to even do these quests, you have to work on smithing anyway, so any paladin who gets this sword has probably already sharpened a couple dozen rusty weapons!

What's really bad is that the Druid weapon https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=11473 IS magic.
...wow

Yes it is BAD!! Only done 2 newbie weapon quest myself though. Some Jagged Orc Slayer DE thing https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=10559 and The Fellblade Cutless *which turns out quite useful* https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=18882.

Would be nice if they had 2 weap quest. 1 a hander the other 2HS because I really like that gnome one. Beats my Tarnished 2HS and bronze halberd.
