Since players cannot wield this, how about giving it to one of the freeport guards, or one of the antonican bards that so many people like to kill. Boy would they get a surprise when they attacked the npc who had this.

Then, with the difficulty to obtain, I suppose I'd hold it for a year or so, to see if someone discovers a quest that involves it.

Realistically, I cannot imagine that this weapon will EVER be made player usable. The damage output, with a good haste item, a bard and spell haste, would be insane.

TO take this guy down, they must have had multiple clerics chain casting complete heal on the main tank, and staggering the casts, because one cleric couldn't heal fast enough to keep up with this damage. Makes me sweat just thinking about it.

class/race?
# Apr 06 2002 at 5:01 PM Rating: Excellent
Has anyone else noticed that there is no class/race? It seems like a wonderfull idea for a weapon that many peeps would like to get there hands on but right now it's just an inventory slot warmer... It maybe part of some quest or another but as is... it's a very pretty item description window! =)
I think this is a programmer trick
# Apr 06 2002 at 12:18 PM Rating: Default
Seeing as how only the strongest of guilds would be able to get this, I would hope its not a zone key. As far as the weapon goes its wonderful.

But so unbalancing its silly.

Thats right its way to powerful to be player useable. Can you imagin a warrior hitting with this?! 4 to 5 hundered points a hit! (Most likley) and then crits of what 600+? This weapon would be awesome, plain and simple. But this weapon would require a special zone just to use it in. Every mobe would need to be 65+ with aggro ranges of the entire zone, so adds are inevetible.

As much as Id like to see it player equippable it will NEVER happen. Having looked at the FoH site and wright up on the battle (32:50 min battle Im guessing with everymember of the guild) 95% of the players will never even see this item. And truthfully its probably for the best.

Well since its going to happen anyway. (Nature of the site) /flameon ;)

Have you seen the crits with the Twisted sword off of Eashen (sp?) in ToV? 52dmg 45 dly...i saw a guy critting for over 500 with that and crippling for over 900...it's insane...something like this would OWN the puny mobs! Would have crits of probably around 800 or so (just a guess) and crips over 1.5k (also just a guess)! Too bad it can't be equipped by any classes........yet ;) I agree with whoever said the Planes of Power thing...it'll prolly be given classes/races then and most likely...will have to have some kind of requirement to use it...but who knows! We can only wait to see!

Hehe, any monk that wants it is welcome to it, but I don't think you'll get much guild help if you try planning a raid for this thing. I think its prob a usless peice some programmer thought it would be an awesome joke on all the people that would get super pissed at looting this and not being able to equip. For instance don't remeber exact name but the crossbow that had godly dmg/dly ratio that drops in Velious, and as far as i know its not worth a thing and no quests revolve around it, have fun monks, I think I'll spend my time doing better things like fishing ;P

Has anyone thought that maybe...
# Apr 05 2002 at 4:12 PM Rating: Decent
Has anyone thought that just maybe this is for the Paladin Epic 2...errr... 3rd?

Why do I say that? Well what class had his or her epic in the game way before anyone else - Paladins (Fiery Avenger). What class had his or her 2nd Epic in game when everyone else only had his or her first - Paladins (Fiery Defender).

So, it would only be fitting to have Paladin's have their 2nd...errr.... 3rd Epic Quest prior to anyone else.

If you look at the Paladin's Epic Quest for Fiery Defender we had to get a Sword, a Shield, and a Breastplate. Turn them all in for a Mark of Atonement and turn FA and the Atonement for FD. Well why not do the same, get this Sword, plus some other items and turn them in with FD for the New Holy Defender (Name made up).

Just a thought…

Given the nature of this item, considering what it drops off of and it's None/None as well as Lore, I'm fairly certain it's going to be used as a key piece. For what? For the hardest zone in the game, of course. Or so it's rumored to be. I'd say this is going to be a piece for the key to Vex'Thal. I could be wrong, sure, but what other logical use would this have other than being needed for a quest? And the Vex'Thal key would be of this magnitude, I'm fairly certain of that given the difficulty the zone is supposedly geared towards. Just something to consider, but I can definitely guarantee that this sword is not a 'wasted' item, it has it's use somewhere.
Trademarked?

Isn't the name "Sword of Truth" trademarked by Terry Goodkind?

Not sure if it's trademarked or not, but I do know that it is the name of a Terry Goodkind book series.

Goodkind's gonna sue!

Next we'll have a mob called Nekrad Lhar that drops a 10 slot 200% weight reduction box that every third time you open it insta-kills your character...hehe

Encounter Buffer
# Apr 05 2002 at 10:19 AM Rating: Excellent
Adding an item like this does a few things. One is it can change the abilities above and beyond that of the mob alone. It would serve to randomize the level of the encounter with no extra coding if the mob had it equipped. We as PC do it all the time with buffs and equipment. Compare the skills of an unbuffed, unequipped, weaponless lev 60 warrior to that of one with a weapon that buffs resists, adds bane damage, is ungodly fast, ungoldy damage, and you will see what I mean. Mod designed by one person, but made extremely more dangerous by another with just one item. The fact that it dropped and was lootable perhaps was a bug.
uber whining
# Apr 05 2002 at 9:56 AM Rating: Good
OMG, after reading the FoH website where they are whining about this it just makes me dislike Uber guilds all the more.. They are whining that Verant actually made something difficult for them.. while they might not consider that the same as challenging, it's still kind of ridiculous that they are whining about having to prove whether they are truly uber or not. If the mob was easy to kill or didn't require so much effort then they wouldn't really have anything to brag about now would they? And sure the sword is unuseable, it would be totally unbalancing if it was..

I just don't get the snobbish elitist attitude these guys have (whether they feel they deserve it or not) regarding things like this.. How are they being denied content? Verant set up the encounter a certain way and made sure that only the best of guilds would be able to accomplish it.. And they did get some very nice items for the trouble.. I guess the saying "you can't have your cake and eat it too" is true.. You can't please everyone..

The fact is the AI in EQ is not rocket scientist.. We all know that.. When you have limited AI there is only so much you can do to make a mob act in a way that makes the encounter challenging. And considering by the time you can kill certain mobs you've pretty much got the AI down pat.. So the only other thing to do is make it more time consuming, or add additional constraints on the fight. We're not talking about a NASA program to simulate landing on the moon, we're talking about EQ..

I think the point behind the sword, if the stats actually affect the NPC, is to give him some resists that can't be reduced with debuffs.. Basically it allows them to make the mob a certain difficulty after taking in to account all the debuffs that can be thrown at him.. Sure that means you may die a few times trying to figure it out or come up with the right strategy.. FoH obviously has the resources and the ability to come up with the strategies, so what's the problem?

Dang, if the cold isn't resisted, it's a 100/45, and if it's against a humanoid make that a 150/45. Thats waay to crazy to ever be made usable, especially as a 1 hand. You'd probably have regular hits of 650s, crits 1300, cripples 2600...
Oh and also note that this is the biggest AC item in game.

not sure about the magic/cold/fire/disease/poison dmg, but bane dmg is not multiplied with the weapon dmg. it is just 50 ACTUAL humanoid dmg (not as if the bane is added to weap stat)

Bane damage does add to the base dmg of a wpn. But the cold damage would just do 50dmg if not resisted

Wrong... bane damage and elemental damage both add to the base damage of a weapon. Believe me, it's been parsed and proven.

The story behind this weapon....
# Apr 05 2002 at 3:34 AM Rating: Decent
The original designer behind this encounter, the guy that put together the whole Lord Inquisitor Seru fight, meant this weapon to actually be usable. Think of it this way: If you're gonna try and kill a mob that could rip the Sleeper a new hole, he better drop items above and beyond anything...ANYTHING that has or ever will exist in game. Well, after Luclin went live, Verant started taking second looks at loot tables, drop rates, etc. This is when items such as the earrings and idols in Maidens were removed from the game, and asfor Lord inquisitor Seru, he was left with his sword, only it was made NONE NONE to ensure that mob eould be the only one to ever wield it. It's just the same old corporate BS that Verant's fed us since Luclin was released and Brad left.
RE: The story behind this weapon....

Rip the sleeper a new one? Has someone actually killed Kerafyrm?
RE: RE: The story behind this weapon....
# Apr 28 2002 at 5:15 AM Rating: Decent
um, Kerafyrm is unkillable. at a recent fanfaire they did a demonstration... ten GMs clicking Death Touch every 2-3 seconds (20k unresistable dmg). after about 10 min they brought kerafyrm down to 80-90% life.

he has over 1 billion hitpoints.

while technically killable, take the top 1k uberest players on all the servers, set them up with a battle with the Sleeper, and their DPS simply won't make the slightest scratch in Kerafyrm's hide.

if any server could bring him down, he best well drop half a dozen usable swords of truth. but they can't have it be so crappy. they need at least 100% haste on it too =D.

oh, and an 250ac BP with 100 per tic regen and right-click aego wouldn't hurt either =D. hey, a ranger's allowed to dream.

RE: The story behind this weapon....
# Apr 05 2002 at 4:11 AM Rating: Excellent
Actually, Kendrick (the designer) originally wanted the sword graphic to be useable. He certainly didn't have the tease stats in mind and was shot down on having it weildable at all, which is a shame given how it looks.

He has also said that the original encounter, as he had designed it and as quest dialogue supports, was not intended to be anywhere near the difficulty that it presently is. In his post on the FoH board he placed Seru as not in the top five for SoL when he tuned it. Obviously it has been changed since that time rather drastically and many consider it presently to be broken horribly.

# Apr 05 2002 at 5:15 AM Rating: Excellent
Many consider the entire Luclin high-end game to be horribly broken.

Amen to that. Also the low and medium end of Luclin seems to be off balance or broken.

# Apr 05 2002 at 3:02 AM Rating: Excellent
This may as well be 192,999dmg 1dly +252 to all stats and Sv's, with the proc of "Kill Every Mob in the Game and Transfer the overflow exp to your dirty twinks cause it fills every AA exp point and regular exp point you need ever to max out the game and completely make this game worthless to you" as a right click effect. It can't be used, and God willing, it never will be. What a load of horse-$hit.
