Shields on Warriors
# Apr 20 2003 at 12:04 PM Rating: Excellent
Well now, interesting reading.

Yes, I have a 46 Warrior, and I use my shield. Curiously, I am betting from what I have read, that not one of you that have warriors have your bash over 100. Mine is maxxed.

Now then, why a shield on a warrior? what is so great about bash? If you are fighting a caster, and you split your windows, as I do, you can see when a caster mob starts to cast, then and ONLY then do you bash it. This interupts its casting. This is particularly useful when up against cleric mobs that can CH themselves. Another particularly useful result of bash is the stun, if you do not have a snarer or rooter in the group, you can use bash to stun the mob as it tries to turn and run, gives you a few more hits before it starts moving, and you can keep bashing it to minimize the mobs runaway.

Warriors have been given some great tools, just need to learn to use them. A good warrior can hack and slash and maintain aggro. A great warrior uses ALL of his tools at his disposal, and does it well. That is the difference between a Tank and a Warrior.

Like KollinSK said. I used to play warrior and i had all my skills maxxed, including bash.

I used this shield also from 48, when i got it, til 55. But i did not wear it all the time and never you should. As for small-medium race bash. Set up hotkeys, 1 box for secondary slot. 1 box for inventory slot. and one box for bash skill. when bash lights up remove shield from inventory place it into secondary and hit bash wait for the sound then switch back. if timed right you barely miss a beat. in case of battling casters do same but wait for casting message. once you hit 55, you get stun kick and wont have to worry about it.

And yet if you are a large race warrior like a troll or even an ogre or barbarian then your racial slam works just like bash except it requires no shield equipped and it's a magic attack as long as your shoulder item is magic.

You can also use a shield by not wearing it all the time but holding it on your cursor over your offhand slot (preferrably have your offhand slot in the hotkey bank or in a custom UI) then click it on only when you need to use bash and click your weapon back up after you bash so you have the damage output from it.
usefullness of shields

A shield is very usefull when pulling. You are not dealing damage when running back to group with a mob beating the hell out of you isn't it ?

So, on your shortcut bank when puller, put inventory slot with shield and secondary melee slot. Swap at pull, swap back when at camp.

Actually, I would prefer some resists hp on it but hell, this shield being considered as crap by 99.99% of warriors, it should rather be easy to get.

Just my 2cp...

They should have made it BACK SLOT equipable in my honest oppinion. Then it had surly been of use.

Shield on a warrior?...what were they thinkin?...If they even have begun to think that is... :)

Take it for what it is

The only situation where you would ever even think of sacrificing dmg output for AC as a warrior would be if you were designated tank in an uber mob encounter. Even then only runes and heals can really save you. Taunting could become an issue too. And there are still better shields.

At best this is the "been there, done that" Fear item for warriors along with the tendril. You know, to prove you were a nice guy and took your time to tank in Fear instead of going to Hate exclusively. I would have preferred a t-shirt instead though. The rib cage graphics is uggily. ;)

AC is primary... Dealing damage as a warrior isn't all that important, every other class pretty much outdamages you by this point as it is...

Yes the point is to take dmg...but whats the point of having all this ac and stuff...if you cant get the mob to stay on you in order to attack you?
