Great for a Monk When Pulling
# Mar 28 2005 at 10:06 PM Rating: Default
+20 to all Resists while pulling is great. Use bandolier to quickly swap back out to your weapons.

resists
# Apr 16 2003 at 5:06 PM Rating: Default
One of the best classes to use this would be a Ranger. This has very nice resists. As an archery master I dont use swords to kill a mob. I do much more damage with my bow, so having swiftwind in my secondary slot does me little good on a raid compaired to the resists that this shield has to offer. There is always a Shammy or Chanter there to haste me, and with an RBB around my waist I notice no difference in bow speed without swiftwind. The dex loss from giving up swiftwind is also not an issue because my dex is maxed at 275 with or without it.

For the price this shield is an excellent buy and it sure comes in handy for ToV raids :)

Monk with a Shield?
# Apr 08 2003 at 1:23 PM Rating: Default
I really don't see Monks useing shields for the guarding perpose anyway lol. Any shield in the hands of a monk would quickly turn into a weapon so maybe verant should introduce something like that into the Monks AA skills. A weapon from anything skill hehe.

Just like to point out that monkies now have a shield with uber resists, but ummmmmmmmm im still gonna dual wield LOL, no monk in their right mind would give up dmg output for a few extra AC. but its nice that verant thought of us :)

Anyone out there know what this resisting bad boy looks like by chance? Not that I really care cause of those sweet resists, since I will just be wearing it when I need Resists on raids. But it would just be nice to know. Thank-You.

Looks similar to a clay gaurdian shield, but is a bit less detail.

Sitting in my SK's resist bag, snagged it for 2k on Tarew Marr months ago.

I got one of these on my pally. When I goto NToV i let my guilds puller use it and I just use my SBS that I kept for this situation. I got shield before joining my new guild so it is mine and not the guilds. I let the monk use it because it is a monk item. The only reason I have one is because my old guild was dumb.

Picked one of these shields up today, on server Cazic-Thule I am main puller for Triads and love this thing. But the who owns this debate is kinda dumb, I wouldnt say Monk or SK both are Pullers so if it dropped they should be the ones rolling. But thats only if your doing ToV, Fear, things like that with your guild. In any case I can swap the shield in for pulling and out for fighting if I even get off the floor to fight after the pull which isnt verry often in ToV.

Got one last night off Terror - I play on a PvP server and as an SK this shield is amazing.

Passed my Sarnak Battle Shield down to a guild mate with no remorse. Sure the SBS is a better PvE shield but in most instances I am using a 2hs for PvE anyways.

I have no clue what I would sell this for if I ever would even consider doing so.

This dropped of Fright the past week. A good item for all that can equip and needing more resists. I think the thing to note is there are very few resist items of this nature for some classes.
imho
# Dec 23 2001 at 9:34 AM Rating: Decent
Alot of people these days are saying "this belongs to this calss" or whatever the truth is whatever class can use it probably will. this sheild is rarely ever owned by a player. its owned by a guild...
there is a better sheild thats the result of the test of the emerald tear and its no drop , so it can only be owned by onew player and surprise. it doesnt go to the puller as this one does when loaned in a guild it goes to whoever needs it most and has the best reputation through points. so what im trying to say is .....
if it can it will if it will only it will not

Pullers ONLY
# Nov 13 2001 at 10:23 PM Rating: Default
This is a GODLY Item for any monk puller. Especially for those poor dudes who have to go fetch mobs in ToV. Considering the casting abuse they take during pulls, resists are crucial. 20 to all saves is incredible. The AC loss isnt too bad, because the monks main job is pull mob to the tagger, then hit the floor. They usually dont stand in and fight. This is NOT for warriors, SKs, rangers, etc. All they do is stand there and beat on the mob and get healed by the clerics. (Not saying this isnt important, but they're gettin healed as they get hit by AoE..monks arent.) So...even tho monks claim every item, I'm gonna have to say this is a monk ONLY item. Wow, didnt think I'd ever stick up for an item being for monks hehehe.
RE: Pullers ONLY
# Mar 17 2002 at 6:24 PM Rating: Decent
Your supposition about warriors is incorrect. In many raids, in ToV in particular, the warriors stand there beating on the mob with little in the way of healing. This is because most if not all of the clerics are involved in chain healing the MA and/or the SA. This leaves the shammies and druids to fill in on heals, who often drop from the aoe's long before the support melee, leaving them to fend for themselves. Any extra ac is welcome as you tend to get agro if you drop below 40%, and the high resists will help keep you from doing that.

So you're saying that warriors should give up dual wield to use this shield during ToV fights? I wonder if you've actually been there.

Most well-organized guilds will save this for their main puller, and will consider it guild property not personal property. I could see an SK or pally using this too, but I'm a monk so I could be wrong.

Somewhat of a repeat, but from a SK. Puller shield for sure. Against most mobs I'd use my Atrementous (yah we use shields a lot), but for pulling certain areas this is the ticket.

I do still pull, though always defer to a good monk, and would lend him this shield for the raid. It's about getting the job done, and the puller (Monk or SK) has to stay alive and unslowed long enough to get the mob to tagger.

I would have to say EmoOfInny, that remark coming from a cleric seems short-sighted, coming out without thinking....etc.

Monk DO get up and fight. What would you rather have? A MA getting hit for max AoE damage because they dont have enough resists (thereby YOU having to heal them alot, more often), or your MA having this shield? Hmmmm?
How about a paladin? Are we not worthy of a shield such as this one? If we have great resists, we can fight in the thick of AoE, AND keep an eye on raid members health with a few Gheals or Sheals....not to mention LoH. This conserves mana for the clerics. Several heals from a paladin can mean the difference between another CH or not.
You clerics....sit there and heal, sometimes out of AoE range.

Think before posting.
RE: Pullers ONLY
# Jan 18 2002 at 1:14 PM Rating: Decent
I think you'r wrong. Thought was used here. It's not always about "well I could use it for this reason or that reason" but who can use it the most. A Paladin may die 2 or 3 times on a raid but how many times did your puller die? 6, 7 sometimes more. Maybe it shouldn't be said it's a Monk only item but look at the Re: "Pullers ONLY". This item should belong to a guild on permanent loan to the regular puller for the guild. Yes Paladin can throw off a few assist heals sometimes but generaly who needs those extra hit points to stay alive the most?

While I respect and understand your opinion, unless the only class listed for an item is monk, it's not monk-ONLY. I've now been on three raids where this has dropped, and it's gone to a Warrior, a Monk and a Ranger, respectively. Why? Because the groups I've been going with aren't "uber-guilds" and they still respect the fact that anyone involved in the kill who can use this item gets a fair shot at it. Those resistances can help any of those classes achieve their goals in life. Any of them. And on those great big guild raids where the puller needs major resistances, the beauty of this item is that it's *not* no-drop. Hence, that warrior who fairly/squarely won the roll on the shield can LEND it to the puller, while enjoying the benefits of the item the rest of his life as well. Everyone will want to play a puller if pullers are the only ones getting the good stuff. And how fun would that be? Just another opinion. Worthy of debate.

Sir Leafbringer? Sounds more like Sir Turdbringer to me with your F-ed up logic. Why would any Warrior or Ranger, even with the IQ of a toaster, give up dual wield to use a shield? NO REASON!
RE: Pullers ONLY
# Mar 27 2002 at 5:15 PM Rating: Decent
As a ranger, I must say that Rangers, Rogues, Beastlords and Warriors should never be allowed to roll on a shield. You will *always* be dual wielding or using a 2 hander. No one should give up 1/3 of their damage output for resists.

This shield is a special case for monks, since they can use it while pulling.

Paladins and shadowknights can actually use it.
RE: Pullers ONLY
# Apr 28 2002 at 5:15 PM Rating: Decent
Saw a couple of Warriors rolling for the Bladestoppers Naggy dropped this week-end after we killed him. Just about made me wretch. Even after I said that Warriors do NOT need the shield in the Raid channel.

If Warriors want a shield, theres a perfectly good No Drop War/SK shield that drops in Fear. It's called a Nautilus shield. Most Sks have better already and won't roll on it. For the tiny amount of time Warriors use shields in thier lifespan, the Nautilus Shield is more than adequate. In face, I won mine by default and it hasn't left the bank yet.

I totally disagree... being a monk myself...

Best for monk because it is the ONLY one like it for a monk... whereas other classes have other options.

I got this off Cazic Thule BEFORE the change.. No clue where it drops now, but most likely off the Golems.. This shield is a monk's dream.. I use this often for dragon battles, and dueling casters.. But anyone who'd let a warrior roll on this is an idiot IMO, cause they always duel wield, except in a duel or something.. This would be wasted on any class with duel wield..
Bah to this
# Jul 14 2001 at 3:04 AM Rating: Default
The AC on this shield sucks for all you SK's. Go find General Vghera on a rogue epic raid, or goto hate and go kill some Ashenbone Drakes. They drop a 25 AC, +5 Sta. +100HP shield, much better in my opinion. Shield adds 40points to my AC
RE: Bah to this
# Aug 17 2001 at 7:16 AM Rating: Excellent
One word, Clueless.

This shield isn't for day to day use, This is the shield to use when pulling casters, got this on my 2nd Fear Raid. Loosing 7 base AC on this over a Hate shield or CGS isn't as bad as what you'd loose with a blue diamond bracer, and the resists are better.

For some strange reason I think I'm going to be chosen to pull more.

Our guild bought one for 70,000pp. We are not sure if it is the going rate but we needed this item for our pulling monks during raids. The 20sv AC and really low weight is extremely useful. We always carry this shield in all our raids.
