Every time i have killed cook (only seen him 4 times) he never had shield. Usually see thick boned skeleton who has an emerald and fine steel warhammer.
kurns shield and sbs ARE identical. sbs is pretty easy to get in crushbone off the orc trainer, since you're in an area of the zone that rarely gets trained. when the throne room wipes, the train runs safely by you at the bottom of the plateau you're hunting on!
the stats are the same, and both act as a lightsource. now go tell yo mama she's calling you. ;)
the reason NOT to get a SBS instead is that it drops on a diffrent continent. to hard to get off kunark go to that mostly "good" continent and get back to kunark. its much easier to get a kurn sheild
This item has the same stats as a shiny brass shield (http://eqdb.allakhazam.com/item.html?item=1103), which drops off the Orc Trainer in Crushbone. The orc trainer is much easier to kill than the Skeletal Cook ... so go get the Shiny Brass Shield instead!
Same stats, same weight ... and the shiny brass shield also acts as a light source.

RE: Don't bother, go get a shiny brass shield instead
bah, read the post he was responding to b4 u flame him. He was making that exact same point. Grrr. /em shambles away muttering something about stupid n00bs
I myself read it that way at first. That's a problem with 'also' and 'as well'. They can represent exactly opposite meanings, depending on the reader.
The 'flame' suggests he read it as a contradiction: "shield of Kurn does NOT act as a lightsource, while the shiny shield DOES." And read that way, it's indeed incorrect, as the Shield of Kurn does act as a lightsource.

This is just an example of Verant's short sided thinking when it comes to items. "hey, lets rename the shiny brass shield, and make it a super rare drop off a super rare spawn in the bottom of a lowbie dungeon" and then "hey lets make one of the best weapons around and then make it drop off a level 20ish creature in a low level dungeon, just make sure it's better than half the weapons that drop off stuff twice as high in the old world AND has a proc and stats"

Anyone interested in selling all of a set or pieces of a set please let me know and I'll try to meet you online. I'm currently camped on the ramp of Kurn's Tower.
