Umm so? Lots of weapons and stuff that have odd names to them and paladins could use.... and the fact that clerics could use it... I mean overall there is no such thing as an EVIL cleric.. no matter how you see it.. yes it's a roleplaying game.. but doesn't mean there can't be evil paladins.. roleplaying is how you roleplay, doesn't matter what you are really.
Completely and totally wrong. You were half-right with your argument. Remember this is a video game and generally that in itself is all the excuse needed to blur the lines between fact and fiction. However, Paladin, the word "Paladin", represents good and the epitome of chivalry.
Their opposites are Dark Paladins, or in EQ words, the Shadow Knight (who don't have the healing touch). There is no such thing as an evil Paladin. Any Paladin who heads in the wrong direction on the road will lose his or her's powers immediately and become an ordinary fighter. That said, your RP argument is null.
By the way, Grim does not necessarily mean evil. Grim can be stern and unyielding and most Paladins, the fanatical ones, are of such traits.
Do you think a Dark Elf would consider himself "evil"? Nope.
In EQ the "evil" gods can grant the same healing powers as the good ones (clerics of Inny, Bertox, Cazic), so I always thought they should be able to have paladins serving them as well. Yes, evil Paladins not anti-paladins, or Shadowknights as they are called.
An evil character can follow a code of honor or chivalry as logically as a good one. In DnD terms you'd call that a "lawful evil" character.
Appearently you've never played on a pvp server... Trust me, there is such a thing as an "evil pallidan." So what does it mean when an elven race pally is killed by a human pally or dwarven pally?
This is platemail, meaning bards, warriors, Sk's, clerics and pally's may wear it. But its what I like to call "evil" equipment, so "good" classes cant wear (hence no bards and pallys) (and yes there are a number of "good" equipments as well). This leaves it with shadow knights, warriors and clerics. Why? because unlike paladins and bards, these class's aren't inherently "good" (dark elf, human and erudite clerics can be evil to my knowledge, and many warriors can be evil. And all sk's are evil)
No such thing as an evil cleric? What? Have you never seen a Dark elf cleric, last I checked Inorruk was evil, being that inkie priests would worship Inorruk, kinda figures that they'd be evil too...
Why would the fact that pallys can't wear this item be unbalancing? There are items that pallys can use that sks cannot. I have a marr's promise shield that i would like to use, but is pally only. Is that unbalancing? I don't really care, however...i have these on my sk and they are great!
Actually, Marr's promise shield is not Paladin only. But you are right, Shadow knights cannot use it because, it's a shield Blessed by Mithaniel Marr and shadow knights shouldn't be using an item that is soley used for people who don't raise the dead. So you keep your pauldrons and we'll keep our shield =). Good luck to you.

Pally probably can't use because they are supposed to be "good" and perhaps Verant sees "grim" pauldrons as "evil". I don't care that a high elf warrior can wear them, so don't go there. A paladin is "good" by class, not race.
