How I did it
# Mar 22 2005 at 10:30 AM Rating: Decent
I tried the 78 second ph thing and it didnt work for me cause I had no tracker. What I did was, bring my 70 Wizard and pulled the entire southern half of the zone. What a train:). Ae nuked, killed them all in 1 shot. Waited and what do you know. Around 78 seconds later POP! the Fabled Quillmane Spawned. Was cake w/ my Wizard, he didnt even break my Ether Shield before I dropped him. He spawned south of Split Paw and roamed north straight to Split Paw.

Happy young warrior has a clicky levi item now:)

OK Almost 3 weeks is enough. If u are willing to MQ this cloak for me for my mage on Rallos Zek, send me a tell. I will make reasonable donation for it as I don't wanna become known as "that bald chick down the street" cause I pulled all my hair out. I am usually on either Desteney, Deniria, or Xanteny.

Hey guess what... there are no locs to get him to spawn he spawns all over the souther half of zone using the proper PH killing strat... Check out my post under the Quillmane info if you need help, it is not a strat it is the solution to killing quillmane on average 4 times per hour. If you have any trouble feel free to ask but there is no exact quillmane spawn loc and if you try to find him using locs... goodluck with that.
Weird.

Hello, I am a lvl 58 Magician on the Roleplaying server and I have been hunting Quillmane for 18 months now for my Epic drop. Normally I see Quillmane once after camping for 5+ hours, but tonight, I zoned in with a ranger and his was up. No cloak. Did the spwan chain, and 10 minutes later, Quillmane. No Cloak. With in an hour I saw Quillmane 4 times, and its loot was :

3 Legging
1 Cloak

I shed a tear when it dropped.

In the last patch Sony said that they changed some itemization in South Karana, think this was one of the changes?

Lonel Tenia,
One happy Magician.

Killed her tonight on morden rasp. Followed a few strats. Here's what I have come up with. I went to Paw and sat in the middle. I saw 2 creatures walk past me a lioness heading north. I killed the lioness then watched my track set on normal, not distance. Luckly a guy had just zoned in so I used him as a marker. The spawn time for the zone is 96 seconds so I watched my track and I saw the repop come up at the top of my track list. It was just southeast of paw on the hills between paw and the hermit. Killed the repop it was a lion. Next pop was an Elephant on the west side of paw. Killed it and 96 seconds later there is Quil just south of paw high on the hill. Killed her got the cloak.

-Edit- continued killing only this single spawn and saw Quillmane 11 times in 3.5 hours. Spawn loc were all over the southern half of the zone (very few wandered north of paw). Overall got 4 cloaks and 7 leggings. Quill does not share a spawn with any other named. If you see any named up don't even bother killing them unless you want their drops, and if a named spawns after killing your particular spawn then move to a new one.

After reviewing my log seems the only mobs on this spawn cycle in the 3.5 hours are:
a lioness 9
a lion 17
an elephant 11
Quillmane 11
aviak egret 2
a mist wolf 5
an escaped Splitpaw gnoll 13

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 06 2004 at 6:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) wouldn't it be funny if everytime someone MQ'd this particular quest item that person holding the cloak lost 2 gold bars of exp. What they need to do (for all classed) is have an epic track, something like ... a piece of you epic has just appearred in zone in the south east direction. Of all epic items this is the worst because ranger ransom to mages for a piece of their epic. Sorry Sony but this BULLSHEET has to end soon. Or mages might start going into Roleplaying mode finding X rangers and annulling their mobs as an act of revenge(oops that snared or rooted mob now can run at full speed and is no longer DoT'd). and Yes I play an EVIL MAGE. Stop this ransoming of Mage Epic items, we don't ***** your epics up stop F'ing with ours.

Well just so you know I hunt Quill for cash. I dont ransom it off either. If there is a mage in zone I even let them loot it.

My counter to your comment would be that this item was in the game well before epics and any class likes a free levitate.

If you want to complain about something complain the SoE made your epic use an item that everyone liked to own before epics were even in the game.

And if you made it so people would lose exp by doing this MQ you would never see one for sale and your epic would be that much more painful because everyone would keep the ones they loot and you would never see Quill.

Greetings: Burried deep in these posts is a technique that works! I tried everyone's ideas up until that post with no success. I have invested 2 weeks of gaming and probably 40 hours in all. I finally followed this technique.

You will need someone to track for you if you can't. Kill EVERYTHING moving NORTH to SOUTH through split paw. Kill all Gnolls imediately around split paw. Do this for about 2 hours and pop!

Spawn 1 is Centaur Village ... moments later, killed or not, spawn 2 is due West of split paw, be patient and ding ... spawn 3 is 100 yards due North ... visible from split paw.

Scan the posts and you will get the coordinates too.

Ok so I'm on my way to the Arena to kick the pants of some n00bs, right? So as I'm running through SK, I pass by a doughnut shop.. So i figure. Ehh.. Lets get me some sugar. So i walk in and order one dozen bear claws...i eat 11 and stuff the other one in my pants. Of course, i soon passed out... but luckily, that leftover bearclaw cushioned my fall. So i wake up, right? and there are all these flying white pegasus' flying all over the place.. and they start calling to me... IIIANNNTTWWOOOOOO.... IIIAAANNNTTWWWOOOOOOOO.... so then i go over and kill one and bob got a hamster the end!....

This mob is so freaking rare it's, obviously, driven me to insanity! Why mage epic mobs are so rare ill never understand. Id rather the mob be level 70 and cast a 2khp AE DD rather than it being so rare...This epic is challenging my patience and not my skill as a magician.

Been here for hours killing every wandering mob i can see.. esp the cyclopses and nameds.... and NOTHING....
Pegasus Spawn
# Apr 26 2004 at 9:26 AM Rating: Default
This is how you spawn quillmane.

There are 4 teirs of mobs in SK You kill a mob on tier 1 and a mob will spawn from tier 1 or 2, kill the mob from tier 2 and one from tier 1 - 3 will spawn, quillmane is one of the mobs on tier 4. I think there are 6 mobs on the last tier spawn list. All the mobs on the list are mobs that don't belong in that zone. Like the undead cyclops and other Weird names. Only one of them will be spawned at a time so get a few trackers and keep looking for the weird named mob in the zone and it's only a matter of time then. (have my epic its a nice little orb :)

I don't think this is actually true. I got Quill to spawn last night without killing a single named mob.

I had previously spent 100+ hours in SK killing every named I came across, and no Quill. I had be reading other sites that seem to concur that each named is in fact on it's own spawn cycle with it's own PHs. I myself have seen multiple named up at the same time. Those sites also said Quill's PH seems to follow the path that Quill does, which includes passing Splitpaw going north and south.

With this information I decided to kill everything I could that was anywhere close to Splitpaw. I ignored the names that were up, and didn't touch the static spawns. After 20 minutes of killing wanderers, I SAW Quill pop just south of Splitpaw. Killed him and got my cloak.

There was only one other person in zone while I was there, a 26 chanter who was killing the static mobs at Splitpaw. I asked if she had killed any named in the last bit and was told she was just after the static spawns around Splitpaw, and that she had been the only one in zone for about an hour.

This leads me to believe that there is no Tiers of mobs in SK, just normal PHs that happen to wander all over the zone. It makes more sense to me, cause why would the programmers make a big complicated Teired system for South Karana, that exists in no other zone from that era? Just to make Mage's life complicated? I don't think so!

My recommendation is to simply kill every wandering mob around Splitpaw, and be lucky, cause lucky helps.

Nice. Now, if only you could tell us what mobs are on what teir and what locations. Bottom line, all that I think any of us know is that we do not know how to make this work. I have read a lot of theories of ppl in the past but no one has been able that I have found to yet show a proven method to get him to spawn. A proven method is that Step 1 will always lead to step 2 which will always lead to step 3. Maybe you have something here and maybe not, but with information lacking in your post it is hard to prove if it works.

Still looking him :(.
RE: Pegasus Spawn
# Jun 30 2004 at 9:55 PM Rating: Decent
Actually hes EXACTLY right. I met a bard looking for him for 3 days. I came in, and tracked, its not easy to explain, but what you do is kill something, say the named cyclops. Something will then take that place on track. Technically it doesnt matter what you kill, you just keep watching the track, the NEW, TOP of the track is next to kill. Imagine if you will um, 50 tracks. Each track can spawn certain things... so if you take the TOP track (the newest) you rotate through all the possible critters to spawn. like 50 little convayer belts, and X amount of critters before it starts all over again.

Rumor has it that Quillmane can be on ANY spawn, ANY place holder.

We tried this. Within about 6 kills and say half an hour or so, he spawned. And again in 1 1/2 hours. We mostly hung out by the gnoll spires, the only reason i feel a named mob is important is because it gives you a marker of sorts. Perhapse there are a ton of tracks that have nothing to do with Quillmane but for the most part it worked rather quickly.

There is no method to spawn Quillmane aside from killing any and all wandering mobs (Brother Qwinn excluded).

Slaughter all roamers: Wolves, Centaurs, Elephants, Gnolls, Lions, Aviaks. You have a chance to get a rare mob. Escaped Splitpaw Gnolls are the most common, guessing around 40% chance. Quillmane is closer to a 1 or 2% chance. All other named are in between these two.

So yes, just kill regular mobs, keep checking tracking and depending on how fast you can kill, you will see Quillmane.

I'm not so sure: there were only four or five people in the zone today, and I was following some advice I was given to kill mobs that path north/south through the Paw spires (since that's where Quillmane and most of the named mobs path, certainly Qwinn and Sentry Whatsisname came through there), and within a hour I had my Cloak.

It's quite possible that it's purely a coincidence and I was just really lucky, but it worked for me.
HELP!

Someone PLEASE give me some updated information on how to get this darn pegasus to spawn. I have about 100 hours invested with my mage with absolutely no luck. Been running around killing everything, and havent even SEEN her a single time. Clearly, I'm either retarded or unlucky. Any help would be greatly appreciated =)
RE: HELP!
# Mar 20 2004 at 4:56 PM Rating: Decent
Get a tracker, ranger prefered cause they have longer range and can sort their track list(normal set shows most recent spawn). Kill bull elephants, escaped split paw gnolls, gnamed gnolls for monk epic, cyclops, undead cyclops, and any other wandering NPC with a name like the paladin/werewolf (except the 60 monk or 50ish SK/Necro undead gnolls unless you got some help). Nothing on track, kill what ever you see. So far, I spent maybe 3 hours the first time and about 1.5 hours today which netted me regular cloak and the Fabled cloak. Gonna make one magician happy I know off.

RE: Levitation
# Feb 15 2004 at 4:35 PM Rating: Decent
Being THE hardest part of the Mage Epic, why add to their greif by going after an item that, to you, only allows you to fly? And if your only reason for getting the cloak is to save 2 coppers worth of bat wings from a levitation caster, [which will were off soon after casting] ask any Mage and they'll summon you a whole bag of rings of flight for free. Same effect and some poor hard suffering Mage finely gets a chance to finish their Epic.

Not anymore. Since the Sky keys were changed to no longer poof on leaving the zone, any Mage in a decent guild is likely to spend more time hunting for a well-green level 30 Pegasus for this stupid cloak than getting their Crown: take a Necro to Sky with you and you can start the raid wherever the previous one ended by having the Necro run invis through the zone, then corpse summoning and rezzing.
RE: Levitation
# Mar 17 2004 at 9:59 PM Rating: Decent
With the amount of time it takes to track this mob and hope that it will drop the cloak, this IS the hardest part of the epic. Especially since the crown is NOT no-drop and can be sold easily by anyone at any time without worrying about MQing anything. Even with a tracker this mob is far more time-consuming and the drop is much more rare than the crown will ever be.

In case you haven't figured it out, any Mage high enough to camp Jade Reavers probably doesn't care about the epic, unless they're doing the quest just for the sake of doing it. So the majority of Mages you'll be pissing off are the ones who aren't doing that.

RE: no drop
# Oct 08 2003 at 2:07 AM Rating: Decent
When they say sell it, they mean the multiquest. Player 1 hands in cloak, Player 2 hands in the rest of the items, and Player 2 gets the final item.

Quite a few quests involving no drop items are sold as Multiquests, the biggest likely being Journeymans Boots.
