Seems kind of funny that there are about 20 druids/rangers selling these cloaks for MQ on this thread, and when you click on the thread for the jade reavers, all you see are posts by druids complaining about high level mages camping the jade reavers to sell :)

HAHA thats honestly the most ironic thing ive ever seen in eq... druids, rangers, mages, ogres... theyre all just a bunch of irons!

I got this item for my Magician Epic, and let me tell you. I'm not gonna wanna get rid of it when it's time to turn in all my items for my epic. This item rocks!

I totally agree if you are a Mage why would you want the item for levitate? Mage's can summon a ring of levitation that has 2 charges of levitate also does not require bat wings. Ring is castable from inventory so you dont even have to have it equipped.

I would have to disagree, this item has a nice effect levitate, on a clas without levitate it might be worth it. But how often do you NEED levitate not that often, its nice in a lot of places but not NEEDED.
Besides for very very little mana we summon rings of flight, INSTANT levitate not 6 second cast time. Will have to double check but i beleive the coak has to be worn for effect, our rings are slot clickable. I would get the epic, use levitate rings for levitate, and get a real cloak to wear.

Was in Sk hunting gnolls with my 35 ranger ,a cyclops wandered towards middle spire so i stopped on the gnolls and grabbed him ,as soon as i finished him turning back towards spires ,Quill flew over ,1 snare bit of melee and he was toast :)
Also found him twice east of the stone bridge headin bak to NK,after seeing this his spawn does seem to be erratic ,but more often than not he has been spotted closest to the south spire
I like this!!

I like this cloak because of the effect Levitate!! Im a ranger and don't need it much but every girls got to fly....... i also hunt in the great divide alot (its so beautiful when it snows there) and levitate makes pulls alot easier, but all iv'e read in the posts are people complaining about how hard the spawn is... no good real info... how much does it hit for? how much HP? can i solo it at level 37... (its level 34 but somtimes things as important as these tend to hit extremely hard and have tons of HP) if you have any other usful info post it... we all now know where it spawns and its placeholders are.... now lets get some other info

Not going to get into a whos epic is best, most if not all of them are excellent items. The mage one is the only one that can move servers, but how often do you do that really. I think the mage one is one of the better ones with the clerics, beacuse it is a great item to wield for stats, saves etc. Beyond that you get the PET. People allways seem to focus on the PET, the pet is great, near equal to better then the PoP pets depending which pet you comapare it to. However the item itself is great too.
Some epics have sadly fallen into disuse, but for the most part all the epics are great items, just some have better items out there. But Cheers to any and all who take the time and the effort to earn the epic, even if its in your bank.

Why is the mage epic the best epic out there? What about the epic pet is so much better?
RE: F the Mages
# Jun 26 2003 at 8:44 PM Rating: Default
The reason WHY the mage epic itself is the best, is simply because you can transfer your mage to a different server...and take the epic with you. It's a spell (a summoned item when casted), and all your spells stay with you when you change servers.

And not to mention..... We summon it no need to take up xtra bank slots when it is outdated....We cast a bad *** pet with it ... And if it died keep your lvl 57 earth spell up so you can cast one to finish mob off (or get mobs attention while you run screaming like a three year old girl to zone)

I got this for my mage the other night with the help of a Guildmate Druid tracking for me. My mage is 35 and the Druid is 37. It was an easy kill definately the hardest part is finding him.

I made three trips to South Karana alone and just wandered looking for him and asking Rangers and Druids if they saw him on track with no success.

This time we were there about 15 minutes tops.

I found out the other night that you don't have to be wearing the cloak to get the Levitate to work. So if you have something better for your shoulder slot just put this in a main inventory slot and you can still use the Levitate from there.

I happen to have this beauty of a cloak and use it regularly, (i hate buying batwings). and i wan to sell it for MQing im on thoulex paells server and dont really know how much its worth.some say between 20k to 40k was just wondering how accurate this amount was. after all Q is a highly sought after mob with no sure way of getting it to spawn and no real spot to look for its spawn. BTW i killed Q 3 times in 2 hours dropped the cloak 2X's and legs 2x's i have no idea how it spawned but i was at the spires killin gnolls for FS and there he was. couldnt believe it. anyway after i sell this baby im gunna get me another 1 just for my self. its great to keep bundled and all wrinkely in my rallic pack just waiting for me to call on its sevices...=)
good luck to all you mages who camp this thing for days. right now im camping stormfeather in IC and it is a #@$@ waiting for the 19th hour only to find out he skipped his spawn. good luck all

Considering it's a dern shame Mages have so much trouble getting this cloak for their Epic.. if you ever get it to drop do a /who Magician all.. and find a mage of appropriate lev (over 50) if she/he needs it, if no mages of appropriate level are around loot it, use it, enjoy it but if you do MQ don't be obnocious about it aye? I looted it with no mages in the zone n' found a mage who was ready to have it MQed, did it for 8k.. the minimum I needed to buy a Tolan's Bracer for me.. could of course gotten more, prol 15k but that seems just plain wrong to stick it to characters going for their epics.. just remember someday YOU might need help with your epic.. would you want soemone gutting your bank account for an MQ?

Not sure how you were able to MQ this, concidering the NPC you have to do the turn in is in the Plane of Sky... last i remember you have to be at least lvl 46.

I have hunted this horse for well over 100 hours now. And these are my observations.

There are 6+ (probably MANY more) named placeholders in SK. The respawn time is roughly 5 min and the location is RANDOM. This is fact.

OBVIOUS PH are an escaped Splitpaw Gnoll and a cyclops. Most likely a Splitpaw Gnoll as well. (assumed typo)

The fun starts with the TRASH placeholders. As far as I could see, any damn ROAMER in the zone can be a PH. Every lion, centaur, whatnot.
I killed everything. No mercy.

The way to find Quill is to make sure EVERYTHING in the zone dies regularly. A good way for that is a mage going around it clockwise. :)
You do NOT want some forgotten lion hanging out in a zone corner and chuckling at you because it could be the QM PH.
Also have someone with tracking (ranger track covers about 2/3 of the zone, east to west) run though the zone at a faster pace although preferrably still killing trash mobs of opportunity.
This is to make sure all obvious PH are smacked down to clear the spawns and of course... to keep an eye out for Ol'Featherbutt, who can spawn anywhere.

Keep doing that and Quillmane will spawn. Just don't hold your breath.
Solo (ranger) it took me 100+ hours and 6 Quillmane kills.

Now my THEORY is that every named (Quillmane, Cracktusk, Shaman Blahblah, etc.) has its own personal spawn table with PH. If that is true, killing those named will NOT help you find QM since you end up killing "wrong" escaped gnolls and trash mobs, wasting time.
Someone claimed that the undead cyclops is a PH instead of a named. I just don't know so if in doubt, KILL!

Keep in mind that these are OLD WORLD spawns and spawn tables worked very simplistic back then. There were no fancy timers or huge numbers of different critters on any one table.
No "zone spawns" like you would find in LoY zones, where many mobs of similiar type can spawn one "named" - which thus can pop in multiple spots.
May your pain end soon,

Pan

Okies for the people that said its 46 to get your epics. I hope you don't do your final turn in at 46 because most likely you will lose your items. Most NpCs won't even talk to you until level 46, and others until level 51, so get to 51 before doing any major turn ins. But either way, I would never help a level 22 get their epic, that's kinda silly. Just my 2 copper

First, do you realize that you can't get your epic until your lvl 51? Second, at 22, others would have to do the quest for you as you couldn't contribute on any of the mobs yet. I'm just saying, don't be surprised no one is rushing to help you.

umm actually its 46 to get epic and you cant blame a guy for wanting to start early esp seeing that quil is only a lvl 35 ish mob and could be done with a group of 25's the rest yes he would have to wait for ie kith would be a little impossible @ 22 nejena could be done @ 22 with a group the PoA crown can be bought and seeing as u have to wait to go there @ 46 anyway by then you should get in a raid on poA and just loot one ....theres a whole slew of other pieces that can be done around 40 i started taking my shammy wife into BW around 40 and a group could hold there own there your not gonna get all your pioeces @ 22 but cudos bro for starting early

Q spawns on FV
# Dec 16 2002 at 2:22 PM Rating: Decent
With a great deal of time spent in Paw hunting FS carrying gnolls with my druid friend we have only tracked this silly horse twice; both times on the same day, and he dropped the legs both times. The first time he was actually Northwest of Paw when he showed up on track, and moving Northwest. About 10 seconds after we killed him a ranger shouted asking if anyone had him on track. The second time he flew right over Paw and it was a massive free for all, but I was confident my arrow hit him before any caster got a spell off so we finished him off. A caster of some type (Magician I believe) was offended claiming she hit him first (I doubt it), so I offered her the second set of legs (which she declined).

This was about 3 weeks ago and we have long since moved on but it was the only time we saw him in a good solid 2 week period.

I would like the cloak for my SK to help avoid all the KOS hassle, but I would not be above giving/selling it(not no drop on FV)to help someone with their epic.

Guess this post isn't any actual help to anyone except to let people know spawn rate as of late.

RE: Q spawns on FV
# Jan 03 2003 at 3:33 PM Rating: Decent
That's about where I saw him. 100yrds E of the spires and headed straight for the centaur village. Once it hit the boundary it turned due towards the zombie ruins. This was about 1pm game time.

Had only the cloak on him and as much as I wanted it I let a mage have it and yah know I actually felt pretty good about letting him have it. Then again I got a full bub of exp from Quill and am a hair shot from my next spell level.

I would have kept it but I asked 'Are any mages looking for their epic' and he said yes. He was lvl38 but heck I could've done a good chunk of my epic at 25 (no fighting of corse just the courier parts, druid). I guess this is just my 2cp in the keep the cloak/give the cloak arguement. If the mage was say under 25 I might have kept it since it would have creamed him (and it had killed him at his early 30's once, so he told me) and that is a bit young for the epic mob.

All in all I was happy to give it away

Let's think about this for a sec. Hmm. I don't see anyone in COM shouting to zone "out of courtesy of course" that there is a jade reaver to loot for any needy apt level druid. The reason why is that a jade reaver is sellable and can bring upwards of 25000 in bazaar. A pegasus feathered cloak is no drop but doable by a solo 30+ of just about any class. So why is it that there are complaints here for other classes looting an all-all item; when I see plenty of non druids parked in the bazaar selling jades for ungodly amounts? At least your piece just requires a little patience, since everyone seems to know the spawn area and a druids requires a full group of level 50+ to camp for. "And get lucky". There is a balence to everything. )

Not to mention that you know exactly where the Black Reavers are, they are a MUCH more common mob with a MUCH more common drop. I have been trying to help my 51 mage friend find Quill for two weeks, and this mob is IMPOSSIBLE! because every time he pops someone grabs him like he's the last mob in EQ ever. For those who never get to cast Levitate, OK, I understand. But for those of you who do and just take this because you are too cheap or too lazy to buy or get batwings, get real. And if you are looting this cloak because you aren't high enough level to cast Levitate YET, pleasae GIVE it to a mage, most will be willing to compensate you for it, but NOT 20K. That is SOOO RUDE!
RE: Crybabies
# Mar 14 2003 at 11:50 AM Rating: Decent
Hmm....let's think about this for a sec. Ever seen a Crown of Elemental Mastery for sale? A much more appropriate comparison to your Jade Reaver. They go for 50 to 150k depending on your server. Drop from mobs on the 7th isle in the Plane of Air. No reason to whack him for his post. The mage epic has a lot of difficult pieces to get. 20k for a Jade Reaver is cheap for a piece of your epic compared to buying the Crown.

However, Umbral Planes dont MAKE you have to be 46+ to enter. To get into the Planes you HAVE to be 46+ (except for Plane of Knowledge).

No offense, but I'll believe it when I see him weilding it (and I've heard you can't weild them until 51).

E Marr ranger level 36 with one epic weapon. Do not remember which of the 2 he had. If you have a uber guild and the items are Chainable I can see it happening. Not very often but it can happen. Being in the right place at the right time. I see level 1 druids hanging out in Umbral Planes looting Elysian armor which the zone is 55+.

Yes, the SK epic is nasty, I dont disagree with you there. But the SK also has an alternative that is amazing in its own right. The Greenmist.

The mage epic is the hardest epic because of the sheer magnitude of the quests. Sure we still have to kill Phinny, P'Tasa, Rottgrime and find the never-spawn-when-you-need-her unicorn. Still it takes forever and I am almost finished, thanks to a few members of my guild who have gone out of their way to help me out lately.

Me and my gf were camping the spires in South Karana when we spotted Quillmane. Killed him easily me being 32 Necro and her a 30 Cleric. Dropped the cloak and I told her to loot it. Did a mage nearby need it? Well... I don't really care. What goes around, comes around, but clerics dont get levitate, and I'd much sooner see this cloak on her shoulders than some random never-see-his-face-again mage takes off with it. Besides, if anything, I would never give it to a random mage when I could rather loot it for a friend.

Imagine a friends face when you tell him you had the cloak for MQ but you decided to give it to random_dood01 instead... nuh uh...

If I ever happen upon Q while I'm in the zone I will very politely say /ooc any mages or mage alts around that are looking for a certain horsey?

If I get no response then I will track and kill Q myself. I'll also keep the cloak for the following reasons.

1. I'll MQ it for a guildie or another friend who needs it.

2. Maybe I'll trade it for an MQ towards my epic.

I won't keep it to sell for outrageous PP and I'll give it up if theres a mage nearby that needs it. If not, it's mine to keep and give away to somebody I meet in the future. What goes around comes around so I'm nice about it. I give it away and someday I'll get a Druid epic part for nothing, that's how it works.... But don't tel me I have to give it to you becasue you're a mage.
