Underwater Casting
# Dec 11 2002 at 2:27 PM Rating: Decent
Here is how I cast underwater.

Let tank/pet take agro.
Swim straight up using first person view.
Turn to see mob, watch my motion, and cast.
If I'm soloing in Kedge,(Mage) and I pull more than one, I swim straight for a corner, and turn to see the mob. If I already have my back to the wall, mobs dont push me around, and I can cast happily until pet comes to the rescue, or I blast the hell out of the mob.

Mobs don't push you up or down, so if your in a tunnel, you'll slowing sink, but not enough to interupt casting.

Happy hunting!

The focus effect on this item is: Affliction Effiency II, not Extended Affliction II.

This item is vender trash to us now, but before Kunark and Velious items like this were actually used. 50 Mana on the sholders was very hard to beat before all the new items were out :)

The prices are very very off tho

Actually this is the highest mana shoulder item in the game that I know of. Plus mana is the single most important stat for any wizard. Considering a wizard can max their int at 255 with 4 or 5 uber items.

My point being, it is hardly vendor trash.

*giggle* new to the game are ya? uber item for int... about 20 int attached... max starting into for a erudite wizzy~ 142... 5 items with 20 int =242... not quite maxed...6 minimum but you will need to pick and choose those because ya need resist and hp in some of the slots where uber int items go... j00 gots ta think =p

Hate to break it to you, but at high levels you need mana, not int, since int will be maxed... this may be useful if you can get your int maxed in other slots, and can get decent resists elswhere too.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 13 2003 at 2:59 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hate to break it to you but at high levels intelligence is of equal importance as +mana items. If you always keep int at max you are adding tons of indirect mana to your pool while if you spend your days looting +75 or +100 mana items with no thought of int at all you will have almost no indirect mana and therefore inferior to any other caster you'll meet. People with 355 int and +mana items where available have more mana than people with +100 mana items on each of their slots and almost no int.

Hate, in turn, to break it to you.. but the vast majority of 100+ mana items have significant amounts of INT/WIS on them also.

Yes the drops on a whole are terrible. People come for epic drops and that is it. However drops in this zone are fairly poor because the xp is quite high. A proper group with a little underwater practice can haul some very nice XP outta this joint.

Don't forget us Mages and the Druids
# Oct 26 2001 at 5:29 PM Rating: Decent
Mages need 2 RARE items off RARE mobs in that zone, and Druids needs 1 too. Sometimes it's hard enough to get a KK raid together, and it's truly insulting at the rarity that the items are actually there.

But I agree completely with the spell casting in water being a serious problem. That's why I always use my pets. Cept for the obvious pathing problems, they can't be beat.

there are better mana items than this one... heck even obulus death shroud is 10ac 3str 5sta 3wis 25mana 1svall... sure its 25 less mana, but 5 more ac and other stats...

Kedge will remain an underutilized zone until verant puts some items about twice as good as they are now, in there. I mean if this shawl was 10ac 10sta 100mana, people still might not go to kedge and try to get one. Theres basically 3 items that drop in kedge that are worth getting. 1 is wiz staff (part of their epic) 2 is kedge robe (part of rog epic) 3 is pearlescent mask (monk only 6ac 5agi 10svmagic eff: infravision?) and that one isn't even worth bringing a group to camp here over the course of a day or two till ms ebbwater spawns enough to drop mask.

The big problem with water zones is the inertia that you get and cant resume casting through. I mean if you swim a tiny tiny bit, you still arc down in the water enough to stop you from casting for a couple seconds, and if you are getting meleed kiss yer *** goodbye. Verant needs to do something about how spells are cast in water. It's really unacceptable.

Don't forget the driftwood treasure chest. 100% weight reduction. Not great for monks, because of it's weight, but nice for the rest of us.
