Compass direction
# Sep 09 2004 at 1:17 AM Rating: Decent
BTW, the direction displayed on the compass is the direction you are facing. What this means is, the compass will read differently as you change directions (Face east compass reads east, face west compass reads west etc..) just in case no one has noticed this yet.
Quest ????

The description states that this item is used in a quest, anyone have a clue as to what quest? I have turned in a number of the survival knives, but Trooper Vaurk won't take the locket. Any suggestions???

I don't think this item existed 6 months before May 27th.
As stated a few posts down, the explorers were added early March 2002, on the 5th or 6th if I remember correctly. Anywho, a friend told me that he had seen these new mobs about a day later, and I went over and started killing them. Hehe, in fact, the first mob I killed was the lead explorer cause he agroed me before any of the others could. As luck would have it, he dropped the locket the first time I killed him. I had it in my inventory for a few days until I realized that nobody had heard of this decent neck item. Then I decided to take a screenshot of it and post it to Allakhazam. My email was send March 14, 2002 ... I didn't find it in an update till like March 24 or something. Hehe, but that's how it all went down from my understanding = P

Random Drop off Lead Explorer
# Mar 26 2002 at 1:06 AM Rating: Decent
Drops off the Lead Explorer in the Tower at pos1600 and pos 45. Been Soloing this tower with my monk from 24 to 27, easy with FD pulls. its really good exp and you get a locket once in a great while. The Lead Explorer is a Paladin who will buff a yualp spell when he spawns and will do LoH when you get him to 25%. Fairly easy kill. Hope this helps some for some one who could use this.

I have seen these npc's on LoIO. My wife just started playing and I have a chanter in that level so I would group with her. I saw these and knew they had just been added. I killed one to see if maybe they would drop something cool. Guess I have to kill a bit more. The one I killed had a heavy fraction hit, I noticed 4 or so hits, Fv was the major.
Explorers - new to lake area
# Mar 12 2002 at 6:20 PM Rating: Good
The Explorers in Lake of Ill Omen have only been there since approx early March 2002.

They can be found in the ruined tower type structure on the Nth side of the lake at loc 1900,100 (roughly)

There are 5 or 6 explorers as well as a Lead Explorer I have seen spawn in there. Seem to be on Fironia Vie faction. Killed a few of them including the Lead explorer.. most were Blue to my Iksar Monk at 19 tho i think the lead explorer may have been white/yellow. They drop an explorer survival knife (stackable but no stats.. quest item perhaps?) and the occasional piece of ringmail. Respawn rate seemed quite fast.
Survival Knives
# Mar 13 2002 at 1:21 AM Rating: Decent
Yes they are a Quest there is a Warrior Iksar under a 4 Pillar Ruin on the right side of the Iksar Statued Hill going OUT of Cablis who Wants 4 Survival Knives Dont Know the result yet as my Shammy is only lvl 12 and not Willing to Aggro the Explorers yet.

The result of turning in 4 survival knives at a time is to gain faction with ALL the cabalis groups. This is pretty significant for those of you working on building faction to go into Cabalis. If you've spent any real time in the Lake and/or Overthere killing sarnaks then you are already probably amiable to this guy. I've increased the rest of my Cab factions to Apprehensive now, one step from being able to buy and sell .. woot!

This is alot more fun then turning in a zillion bone chips to the guard in Field of Bone and you get some chain armour that sells for a few plat a piece .. and if you're lucky the Locket, but the drop on the locket has been reduced by alot rescently.

The result of the quest is several different iksar faction increases and an insignificant amount of xp...That is all.

Wish it was a range slot item...
RE: Hmm
# Mar 12 2002 at 4:27 PM Rating: Decent
after i read your post wishing for a range item i did a search on range items with wis/int.starting at level 35ish you have several choices with very very similar stats.but perhaps for some reason your interested in the compass aspect of this item-in which case i remind you that one can drop a rusty dagger(or any weapon) on the ground and its head will always point north.

Don't forget that the clouds always travel west to east, as well... And, of course, there's always sense heading. ;)
