Have 2
# Dec 24 2004 at 2:04 PM Rating: Decent
I have 2 of these on my Ranger on Veeshan. Here are my opinions on them:

1: For soloing, they are pretty mediocre as far as damage outlay goes.
2: Great in fights against caster mobs (More hits = more chances to interupt casting).
3: Decent in groups because you can do a fair amount of damage while only rarely getting agro.

Just MY opinion on them.

Results may vary, no opinions expressed or implied herein are a guarantee to what you may experience.

Uhhh... put a Defender's Lightblade or any other 20/30ish 1handers you can buy. Dmg bonus isn't used for offhand and only ratio really matters as others have said. Every time you swing your primary it will do a dual wield check, every successful one causes your secondary to swing. So, no, a high dmg item is much better than a low delay just as long as the ratio is as good... even if it isn't, the higher dmg will probably be better.

Anywho, 2 tox = redundant and stupid.
RE: Have 2
# Jun 10 2005 at 4:26 AM Rating: Default
good god learn the game.

primary delay determines how often primary swings.
secondary delay determines how often the offhand check is made, check determines how many swings you get.

test it if you dont believe me. get a char with decent dual wield, put a slow as hell weapon in primary, a fast one in secondary, with different weapon types.

you crush for 1
you slash for 20
you slash for 8
you crush for 40
you slash for 15
you try to slash but miss
you crush for 50
you slash for 1
you crush for

blah blah blah, youll see they are on different delays.

you want this in primary for the damage bonus, and a good ratio in secondary. so no, if you dont have anything better than 10/17 this is a good choice for offhand weapon in addition to primary.

Instead of all that you could simply have said that the other poster was confusing dual wield with double attack.

Hasted Delay
# Nov 16 2003 at 10:17 PM Rating: Default
If you had a CoF and one of those new clicky haste items u can purchase from dungeons u will have 46% haste. take the delay 17 divide it by 1.46 and you will have 11.6 which is almost the limit. gives you that sweet feeling inside knowing u can almost reach the delay cap with out relying on other's buffs :-).

You are better off having a high dmg weapon in offhand like a defenders lightblade and a very fast weapon in primary like this one. This will max your dual wield ability since you have a chance to dual wield with every successful blow in your primary.

RE: Just a thought
# May 20 2003 at 2:45 PM Rating: Good
Concerning dual wield, both hands are independant. Fast weapons are good for Primary due to more applications of the damage bonus. Fast is good for Secondary due to more chances to pass the Dual Wield skill check.
RE: Just a thought
# Aug 01 2003 at 2:59 PM Rating: Good
Fast weapons in the off don't matter. The percentage of attacks with slower weapons is the same as it is with faster weapons. If you make 100 attack checks with each you should get the same number of succesful checks. So the most important thing in the offhand (as far as damage is concerned) is ratio.
RE: Just a thought
# Sep 02 2003 at 11:34 PM Rating: Default
but RATIO is the key offhand, so speed does matter
RE: Just a thought
# Sep 14 2003 at 10:55 AM Rating: Decent
yes, "RATIO" is the key, so speed doesn't matter...

a 1000/500 weapon is slow as hell but has a fantastic ratio, a 10/17 weapon is fast but has a signifcantly worst ratio.

# May 03 2003 at 12:02 PM Rating: Decent
I may have missed it but I have an idea that could really work out.

I have my first and I am looking for a SECOND!

This is NOT LORE so equipping a second Tox will be no problem.

With the speed inherent to this weapon I would think 2 of these on any hasted Ranger would do an amazing amount of damage.

As I said I have one already and I am working on obtaining another to test this theory.

Will let you all know the outcome.

BOOM, hes down. hehe That would also be nice if he dropped the axe everytime...

for a ranger, frosty should not be first choice at that price range, ac debuff on proc is massive taunt(think about how much taunt flame lick does). tox axe is good, but when you find someone selling it, it would cost 20k+
for that money i rather save it up and get a jade reaver for epic(if you don't have it yet). good choices would have to be snowchipper , cbol(1dly more than tox axe, really crap stats tho) and such. these 2 are under 14k(depends on server) and good dmg without massive taunt
if you want a good no-drop weapon at your lvl range, getting ornate sword of the general would be great
Combo Help
# Oct 12 2002 at 1:13 AM Rating: Decent
Had a question about which would be a the better combo?

TOX / LSoEE (prim/sec)

or a

TOX / FrostBringer combo?

And is it really worth the upgrade from either one of those to the Tox Axe? I really like the proc and have a 160 DEX unbuffed so it goes of quite a lot.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Amazing weapon

This is one of the best droppable ranger primaries in the game. Bought one for myself (15K) and am very glad I did. I get inspected all the time due to the cool graphic, and warriors get pissed and generally make some comment about aggro when I give them the stats and tell them it's ranger only.

I don't show where the Toxiferious Axe says recommended level however if it does say "Recommended level 51" then no it cannot even be equipped until you reach that level.

Some good examples of this
- Te Ew War Maul
- Fleshgrinder
- Club of the Ice Ocean

Edit: Ive found this to be at least with weapons.

You will receive cannot equip do to race/class diety etc.. message.

Not true with all items. I was able to equip Elysian armor on my druid before she was of the recommended level. It uses a percentage ... ie I was lvl 49, rec lvl 51. So instead of 15mana, I got 14mana. So if you were level 26 and had this, it would be (5)/17. I haven't tested this item, so I don't know if this one in particular can be equipped before rec level. But some items can just fyi ...

RE: Still use before 51?
# Dec 02 2002 at 2:51 AM Rating: Decent
woodleaf, that is a no-drop armor
in other words, it can't be used on a twink.
recommanded lvl on DROPPABLE weapons is different, it is like requirement. there are acceptions like venom axe, but do you really still want to use this at lvl 51+??? i hope not...
anyway, recommanded lvl on droppable aromr is to stop twinks get your new chars from lvl 1 - lvl 50 in one day(which can be done easily for rich ppl and 2 boxing)
but how often do u see a lvl 20 running around with a elysian armor? i haven't seen one personally, but IT COULD happen..but not worth it
RE: Still use before 51?
# Jan 07 2003 at 5:14 PM Rating: Decent
Actually, there is no difference between droppable and non-droppable items. The difference is between recommended level, and required level. The Tox has has a required level of 51, therefore, you need to be 51. It's easy to glance over the weapon and mistake required for recommended, they really should have used suggested level instead.
RE: Still use before 51?
# Jul 01 2003 at 11:11 AM Rating: Default
Ok this is how it goes:
If an item has a certain "Recommended Level", a player that equips the item before this level will not receive the item's full stats, but rather a percentage based on their level. This is true for any items with a "Recommended Level"; no drop or whatever.
If an item has a certain "Required Level", a player will not even be able to equip the item until he has reached this level. Once the player can equip the item, he will receive its full stats.
Sometimes an item will have both a "Recommended Level" and a "Required Level", in which case a player can equip the item as soon as he reaches the "Required Level", but will not receive the full stats until he reaches the "Recommended Level".
The Toxiferious Axe only has a "Required Level" of 51, so no one below 51 can equip it, but once you hit 51 you will get the full stats. I'm looking at it right now in my inventory.

Tried a couple of combos with the Tox:
== Tox / LSoEE
== Tox / Tox
(Me r not epic'd ... I have a garbage FBSS for haste ... GHETTO RANGER!)

I noticed during my favorite hobby of killing hill giants, " Tox / LSoEE " and " Tox / Tox " seem to perform the same overall. I'd lose a similar amount of hit points most of the time with either combo, but " Tox / Tox " seems to drop them a bit quicker.

Feel like it was a waste of plat after the first axe. I think I like off handing something like an LSoEE better ... less expensive and feels great to get that big hit in once in a while. ^_^

Low Delay Limit
# Jul 14 2002 at 1:52 AM Rating: Default
Do not no if this is true or not but doesn't Verant have a limit on how low delay can go. I heard that no matter what your haste percentage, Weapons can only go down to 10delay max. Again this is something I heard or read in some post. Assuming this is true. Kind of Drops the value on this bad boy doesn't it. What good is 10/10 if you can get something with higher damage and Uber haste item will bring delay down to 10 also. Just my 2cp. 80p

you'd have to have 82% haste to get it down
to 10 delay tho ^_^

most people don't usually have 82% haste..
even though it is really easy to get.

RE: Low Delay Limit
# Aug 02 2002 at 12:55 PM Rating: Excellent
Consider this...

FBSS (21% or 19%, depending on who you talk to)
Enchanter Haste (varies as to spell and Enchanter whim, but by this level NEVER below 30% - Augment)

Most melee characters by 50, Rangers especially, are gonna have some kind of haste item. FBSS is the defacto standard that all the others are measured by, since it is probably one of the easiest to get, or at least most common. Under 50, most are going to hit their haste cap REAL fast, especially if there is a bard on the group.

As far as comparing Epics, Ranger Epic also has a 40% Haste, coupled with a single target slow for offhand second Epic piece (yes, Rangers actually get two weapons for their Epic). High level Rangers hit their Haste cap really quick (or at least get awfully close to it) if the Enchanter in the group has a Snake Stick.
RE: Low Delay Limit
# Jan 28 2003 at 6:31 AM Rating: Default
Domnall, hey bro you got it backwards, Ranger epic first weapon is Swiftwind (40%) secondary only, second epic piece is Earthcaller (POS) anyways there are better items available the the tox axe, just not as common, and to answer all the haste questions yes there is a haste cap and it is 110% haste max allowed (thats alot of haste) as far as weapon delay...haste doesnt effect the delay value of a weapon, it effects how fast your attack timer resets, for example, if you have a 10/17 tox axe and a 5/14 whip (pos from fear) and say SCHW's (22% haste) you will still have 10/17 and a 5/14 pair, you just cycle to next attack unit (tick) 22% faster. saying that haste effect's lowering your weapon delay is like saying increasing strength increase the dmg value, aye you might hit harder but that doesn't make your weapon any better..basically it boils down to this, anything that adds to your stats or haste doesnt effect the weapons it effect your character, i will throw in an added bonus senario... you in RL get into a fight, but right before that fight you pop 10hits of speed anything you grab to use as a weapon isnt flying through the air faster cause it's all cranked up, it is because the person using it is all cranked up =D

# Feb 17 2003 at 5:53 AM Rating: Excellent
FBSS is 21%
SCHW 22%

A weapon cannot swing more than once a second (ei 10 delay). However you want to do the math one swing a second is the cap. (riposte, double attack, ect excluded)

The haste cap is around 80% for melees, varies based on the exact class. This rough 80% covers spell and item haste. You can exceed this haste with /disc or two of the bard hastes (not all bard haste mind you, just two of them, your local bard knows them) When adding these other two types of haste you cap is increased to the 110% mentioned above.

Now a question. What the hell is a "hit" of speed. I know what a hit of acid is, and even a hit of x. But a hit of speed? Are you doing your little brothers Adderall or something maybe?

RE: Low Delay Limit

Max haste is not 41%. Spell haste, Item Haste, and Bard Song Haste all stack which take you way over 41% Haste.

It isn't as easy to get that much haste as you seem to think. While you might have items that have 36% and 21% haste (just random numbers), you probably don't have 57% haste, due to stacking rules.

The only class I know of that can get that high easily, is monk, and that's with epic.
RE: Not that easy.
# Feb 01 2003 at 11:01 PM Rating: Decent
Actually Paradoxom the only class that can self sustain 110% max haste is the only class that can cast the final added portion song haste, a 65 bard can and will own in haste due to the fact that they most likely will already have a 40%+ haste item, can use there own song haste, and can just as easily ask a chanter for ubber haste making them the only class that can self cap at 110% haste, ty and im outty =P
I have a bow and i know how to use it

Level 60 beastlord with epic can self haste 40% and with epics (40%) makes 80% fairly easy. But what I am wondering is since beastlords do not have double attack would this make them as good as a 40% haste monk with comparable gear??

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 02 2002 at 3:09 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Max item haste is 41%, but you can get a chanter or bard haste spell/song which will put your haste up to 82% or whatever your cap is easily.
RE: Not that easy.
# Aug 02 2002 at 8:21 AM Rating: Default
I was also lead to believe it was 1 item haste, 1 spell haste, and any number of song haste (but since you can only have one group song and one self-only song, that leads bards to be able to have 2 songs, and everyone else only one). Thats only what I've heard over the last year or so.
RE: Not that easy.
# Aug 16 2002 at 6:49 PM Rating: Decent
You can get 36% item 60% chanter 25% bard that will stack with spell, and exceed hate cap.. thats around 121% haste ;p

But as I said.. when you are just grouping
and stuff you will prolly only usually have 20 to 60% haste..

And as for the beastlord having 80% haste..
Yea but this is a ranger only item, doesn't really matter :)

Better ratio than the Earthcaller

I just noticed that these have a slightly better ratio than the primary hand ranger epic... they are also faster and can take advantage of the damage bonus in the primary hand much better. These also will produce less aggro despite the speed than a blade that is still relatively fast and procs a slow coupled with a DOT. In my experience, spells tend to make a mob a lot angrier than melee damage (Snare and flamelick a couple of times will pull a mob off anyone with about 25 percent or more health). The earthcaller is still a better choice when aggro doesn't matter ie you are soloing or are the main tank. On another note, now that these are droppable, though very rare, they tend to sell for about 15k. I have seen one in action, and it is very damaging. It also looks very nice. Too bad that the most I've ever saved is half of the price!
