If only they had added a combat ability: "Twirl Baton"...

More seriously, some circa 2016 updates would be nice:

-item window pic
-pic of someone wielding
-status of "farming" this in Crypt of Dalnir (where'd you find it, how rare a spawn, rare a drop, etc.).
-popularity on progression servers (if at all)

Uploaded the new screen shots and have little information on the camp.
The location for the lumpy goo that drops this is at location -15, -873, -80. After dropping down to B2 enter the right most hole in the and head around the corner to the right(this is the room marked #6 on the old EQatlas map for Dalnir)and you should see a camp fire with two small green rugs. The lumpy goo is a rare spawn and the baton is an uncommon drop so expect at least 2-3 hours to get one.

Use a H2H weapon and 1HB at the same time; either way you'll do plenty enough damage with those weapons to slaughter mobs around your level, but that way you'll be increasing your 1HB skill. Good H2H Monk weapons are quite rare compared to good 1HB or 2HB weapons... by 30 I wasn't using H2H at all, or only with an Ulak in the offhand while grouping to get some skill-ups.
Question
# Feb 08 2002 at 5:27 PM Rating: Default
Ok i have a iksar/monk and hes good. bit twink with all Wus armor at 12 has about 134 agi and 112 dex. and i use a polished steel ulak and my fist and i was wondering would a baton be better then a polished steel ulak and if so could i trade a polidhed steel ulak for a baton?? Thanks..
RE: Question
# Mar 21 2002 at 6:33 AM Rating: Default
Personally, I use both simultaneously. Since the Baton is 1HB and the Ulak is H2H it jacks up all of your skills and if one lags behind the other I just switch hands. And both still do quite a bit more damage for me than just my fist at level 24.
RE: Question
# Mar 18 2002 at 10:48 AM Rating: Default
I'm a lvl 16 human monk and I have been twinked by a friend with a polished steal ulak as well as a fighting baton. While my attak rating goes down with the baton in hand I hit more frequently and for more damage when I use it(1HB of around 70 now). Check out http://jumpspot.net/eq/monks_by_level.html for a listing of damage vs delay by level and you'll see the damage ratio of the baton (2.5) is much better than that of a fist for any monk below lvl 40 (2.66 according to the above website).

I hope thie helps.

Pricing on Xev

Pricing for fighting batons on Xev.

in LOIO, saw 2 going for 300pp each, another seller selling 1 for 500pp.

in Gfay, had 3 sellers, each had 1 to sell, prices were 300pp, 400pp and 550pp respectively.

in EC, had seen 2 sellers, 1 guy was selling THREE batons, each for 400pp, and another guy was selling 1 for 600pp.

Safe to say prices on the batons can be anywhere from 300pp ~ 450pp if you bargain a bit.

Hand 2 Hand

level dmg/dly
1 4/36
5 5/36
10 6/36
15 7/36
20 8/36
25 9/35
30 10/34
35 11/33
40 12/32
45 13/31
50 14/30
60 14/26

Ok, now FB is 8/20 so you can see that this is good until you hit the 20th - 30th lvls. Let's assume for a second that you had access to nothing else than a lame fighting baton, and only one. Now you would equip it in your secondary until lvl 25, then switch it to your primary from then on. Why? Because the dual wield needs a better dmg/dly ratio in the secondary. After 30th lvl or so your second hand starts to get a better ratio than the baton. However you would want a fast weapon in your primary so that you could lay down the fastest possible dmg in your primary. All things being equal by lvl 60 regardless of speed the baton and your 2nd hand would be about equal in speed. But the ratio of your hands is now suppassed the baton so you would drop it about lvl 40 or so.

Let's assume you actually couldn't buy this item. You get this baton about lvl 20 in the crypt. It's a shame but that's how the game is set. Well this is when your fists start actually doing secondary damage effectively. So for the next 20 lvls the baton is actually a good thing. After lvl 40 it's a toss up. And, at lvl 50 it's pretty clear the baton sucks for you.

BUT, this doesn't apply to iksors at all. Sorry for you, go clean your scales or something.

Hate to disagree, but I have to disagree. FB is better than fist in primary hand until Level 55, and better than fist in secondary until Level 45. This link tells you all you need to know.

http://tinaddar.kung-foo.org/monk1hb.html

There is a damage bonus in primary hand starting at lvl 25 that benefits faster weapons more. If all you have is one baton, put it in your primary hand. But you should try to get something for your off-hand. My personal favorite is a Cane of Tranquil but it costs 1K and so is probably out of your range. An Essence of Dol is pretty cheap, weighs nothing, equips off-hand, and outclasses off-hand fist until the mid-30s.

A fighting baton is certainly not lame-o, and can serve a monk VERY well until level 40+. This applies to both human and iksar.

Good hunting to ya!

I agree with Keyeluke. FB is good til 55 and FB + fist is a full 20% better than Fist + Fist at 45. 618 dpm vs. 516 dpm according to Copeland's analyzer. I think the tinnidar tables, while excellent, tend to underestimate slightly the faster weapon, due to the fact that tinnidar is based on the modal damage calculation. I think you also have to consider that your checks for dbl will come off the 20 dly in primary vs the fist dly at lvl X, which is lower til 55 - another benefit. I'd also give some thought to the fact that the FB will give skill checks more often, so in theory you'll get your 1hb up faster. Hence the beauty of the BamBo. In a group you may want to manage your agro by not using the baton, depending on who you're grouped with. A person might also consider a higher dmg, slower dly, 2hb if you're working against a dmg shield of some sort, or for simple agro list control, I suppose.

With regards to EoD, Copeland's shows it as a wash at level 45 [ I find this hard to believe ], but parsing my old logs shows that EoD was basically gone at 35 for all practical purposes. I sold it at level 39. 0.1 wt was nice though.

CoT is wonderful in secondary. Even at lvl 50 FB + CoT is about 5% better than FB + FB, and 20% better than Fist + Fist.

For those of you without Copeland's, try

http://www.geocities.com/copelandeq/weaponanalyzer.html

has a few rough spots, but it gives you somethings to consider. I think it's also avail. through monkly-business.

The FB is a very nice weapon, nothing better for 500 pp today. I'm not sure that a group of 22's could get to lumpy to get it though. Second floor of Dalnir's is a long way.....
Fist vs blunt
# May 02 2001 at 2:36 AM Rating: Default
The damage on ur fist using the epic is 9. And we all know that sucks in comparace to 1h or 2h blunt. Thouhgt ya all should know. can get the delay with the epic and some haste items down to 9 though, and thats not bad.
RE: Fist vs blunt
# Jun 04 2001 at 10:19 PM Rating: Good
Stating that the damage on the epic sucks is, frankly, shocking, and though I don't want to be rude, you don't have a clue what you're talking about. The damage modifier by itself tells you nothing. Celestial fists are a 9/16 weapon. Proc the haste, add more haste items, and you get to something like 9/10. That is an insane rate of damage. You don't get the glamorous big haymaker hit, but you'll hit so often your fighting buddies will get tired of seeing your name spamming the chat window.

Do your homework - the info is out there. There's a reason an item like a Wu's at 7/18 sells for 7K, and a Jade Mace at 9/18 sells for 14K plat. If the damage sucked, no one would buy it.

To re-affirm the purpose of this thread - the FB is a great weapon for a monk from teens to low 40s, or until he/she can afford a Wu's or something along those lines. A FB/EoD is a great combo for well under 1K, and easily outclasses fists. A FB/CoT is even better, and is a super combo till u can get a Wu's, a jade mace, or a KD.
