Personally I think which class makes the mostr contribution to a guild is really pointless as each class should be able to contribute in thier own way. EQ classes are like stones in a fortress wall each are designed so that when placed together in the right way make a very strong fortress. Each class has thier own special strengths that contribute to the whole. Sure as a mage I can look at wizzies and envy thier ability to group gate, can look at enchanters and envy thier mind buffs and disguises, can look at warriors and envy thier ability to stand toe to toe with a foe, look at clerics and envy thier ability to keep thier party alive and through hp buffs. Druids bring thier own contribution to the world too in the form of buffs. So hating a class simply because they can do this or can't do that is rediculus. The secret to having fun playing this game called EQ (yes it is just a game) working together with every class and race and accepting them for who they are as they are in both thier strengths and weaknesses. This petty class and race bickering I always read in the forums on EQ does nothing but cause desention and ruins the game for everyone as hate always breeds hate. Oh well me and my pet Rocky will climb down off our soapbox now and try and find a group to go kills some mobs with now.

Very nice item this, even for a rog/war/mnk to a lesser extent, but on a caster/hybrid the FT3 and mana make it superb

FT is always nice for us hybrids as we rarely get to med in a group unless there's called downtime. But I honestly think this could go to any casting class. Just don't waste the Flowing Thought on a pure melee ;-)
Who gets the loot?
# Nov 29 2003 at 9:10 PM Rating: Decent
I think the arguments over which class should get these and similar items is becoming dated. Most guilds have now gone to a dkp system with anybody who can use able to bid. The bottom line is if I'm a Druid or any other class that gets treated like a second class citizen, then I just don't join that guild. Why should I donate my time and effort to a guild that doesn't benefit me. The idea that one class is more important to a guild than another is over.
RE: Who gets the loot?
# Mar 11 2004 at 11:01 AM Rating: Default
DKP allows any class to roll, yes; but restrictions are made on items like this, and given that, this would no doubt be lotto'd to casters / priests far before a Hybrid would get one, for the sheer fact they hybrids generate better stats from a ranged bow, item, or what not, than they would from this.

DKP guilds rarely place restrictions on items. It defeats the spirit of DKP, and causes an uproar in guild. The previous poster was saying that he doesn't want to be in a guild where clerics get priority over druids for everything, namely FT items. This is what used to happen, what often does happen in non-DKP guilds, and is what would happen under whatever sort of phony excuse for an egalitarian system you have.
Only the exceptions can be exceptional.
RE: Who gets the loot?
# Apr 09 2004 at 12:19 AM Rating: Decent
They do, actually. I've been in 4 DKP guilds so far, and have friends in the top-end guilds of EQ.

As for me wanting druids to have priority, no, I really don't. I would rather a cleric get this over myself, they need it more than I do. Would that stop me from placing my own bid in for the chance of winning? Real dependant. If I know a cleric with FT1 needed it, seeing as I have FT12, I would most certainly revoke or not bid in the first place hoping he would get it.

I wanna just laugh at your comment, espically since I'd love to see a warrior bid DKP on this. Common sense would say he wouldn't, but by your statement, HE COULD. Well, let's face it, the raid leaders would be a bit more intelligent and just. say. no.

(Oh, I also find it ironic that you are, indeed, a cleric. That comment of yours has me rolling.)
RE: Who gets the loot?

Pointless discussion really, this is an All / All item, if a monk/ bst / bard / warrior etc etc bids dkp on it he has the right to do it. DKP guilds never restrict all / all items no matter what stats are on them.

If they do then they are not a DKP guild, because then as previous writer stated, they are destroying the essence of DKP, because you get DKP on attendence, now i say this item will benefit the player who attends the most raids, why should it go to a player with low FT if that player dont attend enough raids?

And its not like the guild who manages to kill this fella do it only 1 time.

You know what I think is hilarious? The fact that on every single thread involving an FT item I've see there is an argument over who gets this item, who gets that item, or why would this guy get this when he can go and get this other thing in this other zone. God, think my post is annoying? Take a look at your own. One more thing I'd like to note is DRUIDS are always in the mix of the argument. Not because their receiving FT would benefit a guild, which is their cover; but because they want to swarm kite a bunch of crap in downtime and want all the good stuff for themselves so they can get uber AA's so they can swarm kite a bunch more stuff. I'll admit it, I hate druids. There are many reasons for that though, and I'm sure every non-druid knows what I mean.
RE: Rediculous
# Mar 15 2004 at 5:07 AM Rating: Good
Actually, I think you are talking about dr00ds, that sub-species of Druid who only care about themselves. Druids (not the dr00ds) are great assets to groups and to their guilds. What other class can debuff mobs, buff their group, heal, nuke, DoT, AND tear mobs apart with a pet?

When I am in groups and in raids with my guild, I am not just some lazy caster who sits around waiting for the cleric to go OOM. I am actively debuffing the resists and melee stats of each mob, doing spot heals to raid members so the clerics can concentrate on keeping the MT alive, recasting buffs (like DS and regens), DoT'ing mobs that take more than a minute to kill, and nuking those mobs that take less than a minute. I am also responsible for root-parking mobs that cant be mezzed (to get them off the chanter) so the off-tankers can tank-mez them. Plus, if an animal is available for charming, I have a pet I can add to the mix for more dps. I almost never get to sit in a raid with all the things I do, so any FT items I can get are a benefit to my guild and not just to me.

Oh, and did I mention EVAC when in single groups? I have lost count of the number of wipes I have prevented with a timely evac.

So, just remember, its dr00ds you hate, not Druids. If you are ever on Vazaelle, look up Nataya. She will show you what a REAL druid is all about.

What is ridiculous is the idea of a druid swarm kiting anything. It's called quadding for a reason you can only do four at a time. Bards swarm kite. Just wanted to clarify that.

If your guild druids aren't debuffing, buffing, backup healing and nuking then they aren't worth having in guild. Druids can indeed benefit a guild if they are a good at their class.

What is sad is that a few druids (and there are a few in every class but druids seem to be more visible) make a bad name for the rest of them.

The only reason you should whine about any class (especially druids) is because you haven't been around a person who know's what he/she is doing... Wait till u get into a tactics group where the druid is the main healer and still has more DPS than any of the other classes because of the charmed pet he has... Also, i personally havent noticed more trains from druids but more from bards or rangers trying to solo certain stuff, whenever i play my druid and im soloing and i cause a train i either gate/egress/exodus or eat my own death, this also is a big misconception about bards, once you've been around a GOOD bard in a group you should know what im talking about... dont flame druids cuz some low lvl inexperienced player wants that item; give them a low rating and hope that that will keep other ppl from reading their posts and save them the headache it has given you, instead of flaming a class and end up getting a low rating from most of the druids that read ur posts...

Also a nice bard item
# Oct 04 2003 at 11:16 AM Rating: Decent
This would also be of GREAT use to a bard. Bards can only get increased mana regen from AAs, FT items, and a select few effects from items in the elemental planes and higher. The main reason a bard would need mana is our Fade AA. What fade does is clear the bard from the hate list and grants the bard invis. A good bard with Fade can prevent a raid wipe if there paying attention to whats going on, say for instance that a bard is playing Corus of Marr for raid. Well the puller heads out when the bard isnt looking and pulls a whole lotta mobs, puller FDs but was hit by the song. now the bard has aggro and the mobs come pellmell at em. Bard fades and the raid is never the wiser. Also in LDoN were Monk FD is almost useless bards are becomming a favriot class for pulling, not only can they almost always pull singles with there lulls but if they mess up they fade out no one dies a horrable death involving a train of 20 or more mobs :P

Also to the high end guild person... Talk to your druids and clerics.. find out the lsast time in a cycle they healed for more than 5k hp and the raids survived... druids are becomming a neccessity due to the shortage of clerics on some servers.

Traditional CH chains are giving way to mixes of druid/Cleric and using more gorup AE heals like SoTW and EE. Any class would value from this item... just for all those that put druids on the bottom... next time you raid look where your heals are comming from, and how much you could have benifitted from using your druids more wisely.
not a bad item at all

Nice. with the Int and Wis...this with the FT3 would be suitable for any Pure Caster ie, Nec, Wiz, Mag....or Wis Caster Shammy, Cleric. I'd personally like to see the cleric get it first, his CH and rotation being the foremost thing in my head... But as a Mage, i'd really enjoy it. 12 int in the ranges slot...with Flowing Thought! Would totally rock. not to mention AC....i already don't have the best AC...this would be a small improvement. But I can see most any class having a desire for this object.
good luck to you all on getting it!

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 14 2002 at 7:13 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lowfyr yes warriors are necessary as meat shields. but, warriors cannot gain aggro faster than a hybrid, nor manage it nearly as well. paladins cast stun spells and such for their aggro, SKs have their debuffs snares and dots, and rangers can... jolt. all of which takes mana. and there are times when the **** hits the fan and all of a sudden a cleric or enchanter is getting the sap beat out of them. a warrior runs over from the big mob starts hitting and taunting..... "gee this mob seems pissed" .... keeps hitting and taunting ...... caster is now at half life.... another cleric CHs.... mob runs over there.... starts to beat on the cleric. if you had a hybrid there they would be taking the dmg at first call of aggro on caster cause they have spells that can move them up to the top of the list or take the first person off the top. dont knock the hybrids cause they have a purpose regardless and ARE usful in raid situations.

Well so how long do you estimate the ranger, pally or SK will survive after having taunted a BAD mob off someone (i dont mean the usual crap in a zone but a real named)??? Thats what warriors are for ... and you are absolutely right about the other classes being ABLE to control aggro better than a warrior ... thats because they HAVE TO do it in a big bash or they end up dead ... its their own aggro which they have to control.

I tanked Fright in PoF as a 62nd level shammy! (wooo-ha!) I'd just finished casting malo+slow ASAP when the MA died, and guess who was #2 on the aggro list? I'm glad I am one of our better geared players in my guild, and more importantly, I'm glad our healing team was good enough to target me and back me up after 4-5 seconds (although there was a scary bit with the only heals coming from yours truely).

Granted, had the fight been longer (we have some crazy DPS), someone else would have stepped in, but luckily Fright isn't exactly as scary as he used to be. Mudflation!

Never underestimate the power of a great healing team! (but that doesn't mean you should necessarily try to tank Cazic with a wizard, although it WOULD be badass!)

youll see me fighting for sure..
1. casters will normally have in groups mana regen spells.
2. casters have a wide variety of mana regen items versus hybrids who if lucky have a couple rare ones like this.
3. just like casters, hybrids like to have the ability to solo and USE mana also.
4. casters continuosly comlain about not enough ac or non caster stats so stop crying and go out there and claim some..dont say this is ours and we want yours too.

basically this item is great for casters and hybrids and i would not push either away on a roll for it, BUT i would rather see it go to a hybrid rather than that measly FF1 item.nod.

Being someone that 'actually' hunts and raids in the Deep I thought that I would post a little something to end this discussion about who deserves this item more. First of all, your arguements about 'I should get to roll on this item because it's better for the the (substitue archetype here)!' is a silly point. You will not simply be walking through the deep and have someone say 'Hey we are raiding here, wish to join us?'. The deep is raiding by guilds, many of them high-end and using point systems in one way or another to divy loot (whether by point-system or level-system). If a paladin has the most points of anyone on the raid and wishes to out-bid everyone else, then they will get this item. If a cleric on a level-system can claim level one need when everyone else can only claim level two need, then the cleric will walk with the item. This is not Sebilis or a VS raid, this is a serious zone where things get out of hand and out of hand FAST if you don't have your raid together, so don't plan on coming to the deep and doing a pick-up group hoping to get this item, cause it ain't going to happen. Period.

Sigh. Thankfully, there are several melee-only flowing thought items to satisfy everyone's lust for mana regen. In all seriousness, I would be surprised to find any hybrid (much less non-mana user) express interest in this item unless all of the pure-mana classes declined.

In particular, the Helm of Grim Blessings comes to mind, as does the Crown of Nerandi.

Certainly, Flowing Thought items are more useful in some ways to hybrid classes (all of that standing and meleeing while the rest of us *hopefully* have a moment here and there to meditate) than to pure mana classes. I'm sure there are some hybrids who exhaust their mana pools in raid/experience scenarios, though I think this is an exception, rather than the rule. In elected loot situations, I'm sure those people will get their due consideration. In point-based scenarios, you get what you earn, I suppose.

I would, however, be shocked to see anyone decide raid-derived loot based on who will derive the greatest benefit from the item while soloing.

I certainly ensure I use ALL my mana on every raid I go on. On a raid as a pally I try to manage mana to sit on about 30pct, and go OOM when mob is dead.

FT is useful to hybrids .. and they should try to use all of their mana on raids. In guilds where this is the norm you will find mobs fall to smaller raid groups.

Additionally in xp grps I think a hybrid should try to manage mana so they stay on about 80pct. This means when things go wrong you have extra mana to help out, and also that your not sitting on FM wasting mana regen.

I am not going to comment on who it should go to or any of that rant.

you *can* throw no drop

There are a few very good reasons why this should be considered a hybrid item.
1, they are the ONLY class type that can make FULL use of ALL stats/saves/effects of this item ALL of the time.
2, Hybrids NEED some kind of mana regen inorder to use their spells as they simply dont get as much time to med as other casters. (when grouped without a chanter i CANNOT stun without making myself OOM, I cant even yaulp!!)
3, Im not 100% sure about this, but i dont think there are as many mana regen items for hybrids as there are for back row type casters, eg shawl quest.
4, I very much doubt that the regen effect of this item is gunna make a massive difference to those people/classes that have long since had 200 or even 255 int / wis and have started looking for mana items instead BUT it would make a very noticeable difference to a hybrids limited mana pool.

Chances are when you go to get this piece you will be going with your guild and the person who gets it will probs have already been chosen if the guild desides it is that important for one class/person to have.
If i was to descide how to work this it would go as follows, ANYONE with mana gets a roll once all of those has one then the non mana using classes can start rolling keep going until we all have one or deside to do something else (Yep thats gunna mean coming back and may well take a long time but its worth it i think)

# Jun 26 2002 at 11:34 AM Rating: Decent
Sorry, had to throw the Wis caster opinion into the mix here and discredit a claim or two =):
1: hybrids, though the stats are helpful are not the only ones who can use all the stats at one time. Shaman need STA just as much, because one slow and a mob is all over us. Plus if you are not main tank in a raid the extra HP is a waste on you. (plus for the matter of using ALL the stats, I don't remember pallies needing INT or SK's needing WIS....)
2: Hybrids don't NEED a mana regen item at all. that is like saying you can't play a warrior without a haste item. though helpful they are not neccessary to play a hybrid
3: There may be fewer but there aren't as many classes rolling on it as there are with the pure caster items. (And the shawl is a bad example. that quest takes waaaay too long, and from my understanding hybrids can wear it...)
4: With my WIS of 213 I notice the difference when wearing a flowing thought item. every little bit helps regardless of how small.

Okay, done with my part. hopefully you can see that it is not made for any specific class or class type and that everyone with a mana pool at all should have a shot at this wonderful toy.

Something to add :
If your hybrid (pally/sk) is oom, you loose your agro control. This is fact. I guess as a caster you want to sit peacefully in a corner and want to med, while melee killing the mob. You throw in some buffs, nukes, dots etc. but after this you want to sit in your corner and meditate. This can be reached easily with a hybrid with high valued tauntspells. So you have no mobs jumping everyone in the group, or the chanter who is need of lots heals. The healer can focus on only 1 guy, which will result in higher mana efficency. Well for example xp group, what count is not good ac good hp good gear or something, all what counts is efficiency. This means you kill as many mobs as possible without downtime. Usually in my xp groups im the bottleneck when we have downtime cause i cant regen my mana up that fast, because i have no time to med. Such an item with FT2 or 3 would skip this downtime completely.

On Raid situations :
Usually here is a warrior the main tank, because of his defensive disciplin and only because this ;) On Raids you usually have c3 and there is no need for such an FT item on a hybrid. In the high end game, clerics are the bottleneck of every raid. Nasty AoE all the time, CH rotations and so on. This item should go to a cleric for sure. The FT2 is wasted on a shammy, they have cannibalize X and torpor (heal for low mana cost) and can regen there mana faster than everyone else. Druids can heal too, but on raid situations they are by far not as important as clerics.

So your guild should decide .. are you raiding in the end game ? or is your guild still in the growing .. leveling process ?

Well you do make some good points in responce to my post. Although i think you have misunderstood most of the things i said and as for the bit about the sk/pally or ranger thing, that is just nit picking.
Clearly a pally doesnt need int and an SK doesnt need wis but those are the only excpetions to what i said and as i was agruing that this was a hybrid item it makes little difference.
With regards to hybrids NEEDING a mana regen ITEM no they dont and i didnt say that. i said some for of mana regen i.e. clarity
And a hybrid oom is nothing like an unhasted war cos the war can still swing his weapons, so its actually nothing like that atall is it?
I will have to check my wording, but im pretty sure i didnt say that having no mana regen would stop me playing. i said that it makes me much less effective.
You do bring up the shaman class. To be honest i did not consider shaman but as you quite rightly say they would benifit greatly from this item also (obviously all classes would, i mean more so than most / get FULL use out of the item)
Yes, the shawl quest was a very bad example but i think my point still stands and that was that there are many more items with a FT effect that pure caster / preist types can use than those which a hybrid could. (perhaps due to a lack of ac rather than the actual class restrictions. but it doesnt really matter why, if a class cant use it because they cant justify the ac loss or whatever, they cant use it.)
You also say things such as 'every little helps' and 'i hope you can see that' in a way that suggests i had said something to that contradicted those things... i didnt, i actually said that everyone should have one! lol

In short, please try to read and understand what has been said before you comment ;)

My post was realy to answer a question that someone else had posted. 'I would like to hear the justification for calling this a hybrid item'
So i posted it. if i had thought of shaman at the time i would have included them as i can see that they would benifit equally from this item, well almost, i still think a hybrid could make slighty more use of it but theres really not much in it at all.

This seems remarkably like a debate attitude instead of character assassination . . . I think I just hit the twilight zone.

What makes this a hybrid item? The HP's? The STA? Both of those are stats a caster needs just like everyone else in this game.

Ok please....You casters can flame me all you want for what I am going to say. Yes, I know you need all of those stats..But honestly, this IS a hybrid item. I sound like all those other classes complaining that "we got shafted" but Hybrids are the classes that do get shafted. Sorry, but I will agree with the first person, totally a hybrid item. We use the stats more than you will, trust me.

Pally needs this more than a caster?
I'd like to hear the justification for that, instead of these posts saying "yup, hybrid item, we get shafted, this one's ours" without any explanation.

Sure, everything else about the shard is way cool for almost anybody.
But what really distinguishes this item? FT3!
Who do you want to have FT3 in YOUR group...?
The cleric? The chanter?
...Or you, the pally?

And...shafted? My warrior has a severe case of weapon envy :P check the weps pages before you say that.

EDIT: pasting from another post responding to a WARRIOR who wanted it:

Long before you have a shot at this, you should have gone to Maiden's Eye and picked up one of the no-drop idols that rot there all the time. There are at least two different ones that have 15AC! good melee stats.
Seems to me a Paladin might actually prefer the Idol of the Fallen from Maiden's if he wants AC and stats:
+15AC, +10Str +5Dex +10Wis +15vsCold +15vsDis.
Even if they could use the idol, the casters would overwhelmingly go for the shard with its FT3.

So, Pallies: if you want the other benfits, get an Idol of the Fallen instead.
If it's FT3 you're looking for, well, get in line behind the casters.

What would this be worth if it was dropable 100k-200k maybe 300k?

Aye .. great for anyone. As a warrior, it's tough to get decent range ac without having to spend an arm and a leg to get it. The sta added to the hp bonus would give me 100+ more hps in range, along with 10ac and 5svall. Then they add the 15int for the pure casters, the 15wis for priests, FT3 for anyone who can cast, and welcome to the next EQ debate as to who this should go to lol.

I posted above saying casters should get it before hybrids.

But the warrior? My main's a warrior, and still I gotta say "No Way!"

Long before you have a shot at this, you should have gone to Maiden's Eye and picked up one of the no-drop idols that rot there all the time. There are at least two different ones that have 15AC! good melee stats.

Hehe I have both, which is a total waste...but the Grodan's Idol, which I prefer, was gonna rot after I already had the Idol of the Fallen.
I scavenged both, at Level 45...a 54 shammy friend told me to get my buns over there before they rotted.

Leave the shard for the other classes to argue over. I didn't like the idea of a PALLY with FT3 instead of the caster, although that one's arguable. But a WARRIOR with FT3? Boo! Bum a clarity and leave the shard alone. :)

I seriously doubt anyone would waste the effect on a melee, but my warrior would never turn it down either.

This item would not be wasted on a melee such as a Palidin. We also need increases to our mana pool etc etc. Palidins are not as big of damage dealers as the warriors or necros, but I can sure keep a mob stunned almost the whole battle (deep water bracelet helps there) ruthless against undead, and can cut your down time in half cause i can assist in after battle heals and will get group healing mana draining spells at higher levels. A palidin played right can be a great assist (notice i said assist) to a healer and a warrior. If I am in a group and someone tells me I cant roll on this caster only lol no way. Im rollin nuff said. By the way this might seem strange but by chance in the future could anyone that post items to this site list what creature dropped it. I notice this is happening more and more. I think we all know by now that on any item, somewhere there is something easier to get or better to get.

excuse that previous poter. Paladins get forgotten a lot and thus many items with good melee stats and caster stats are all of the sudden caster items.
