# Jun 09 2004 at 4:06 PM Rating: Good
With improved damage 2+ a rangers max proc would be 119, rangers can crit with spell casting fury for 218. It's not much but the ratio is nice so it's not to bad.

Killed Itraer Vius Today w my guild simplicity on drinal, Took Damn near close to 5 hrs cause of ignorance from people trying to show off and aggroing every repop on the walla or Running to us late w trains. Rather annoying!!!!!

IV went down fairly fast w our party of 32 members, I was one of 2 ranger attending raid and later 3 rangers as one was allowed to join before the kill on mob. I held more Skp then any of the other 2 and one had already congratz'd me on the blade when it drops.

IV goes down figuring cool nice new toy to play w, NOOOOOOO. Drop = Helm which since its MNK usable always goes for insane skp to mnk's but this time a war beat them, and me, so oh well, and some piece of crap no drop stone which I could give a pfffft about. -sigh- Common drop MY RED A** -- For such a great mob dropping 2 items one of which is a stone /boggle seems kinda cheap if u ask me, in other melees defense i wouldnt wanna tank this hoe anymore for a helm and a rock.

In short its not common in sense of orc pawn pick's, but will prob drop 1 out of 2-3times killed. Grats whichever guild on drinal killed it after, you prob brought 10 rangers w u and some lvl49-50 ranger now has it, whoohooo slay them rygorr in EW bro, stupid ranger jacking mob.

hehe well our guild Guardians of Light on Saryrn has probably killed the IV 20 or more times, we haev YET to see one of the ranger blades drop :(, it is not common, if anything it is the super rare drop, anyways, you can't just go in and kill something and expect what you need to drop hehe that hardly ever works and just disappoints you.

I was awarded this tonight by my guild, Pravus Mortis, on Druzzil.
I played with it for about 90 minutes after the raid. The camp was inner caves in Plane of Valor. The Careless Lighting proc'd 45 times on 25 mobs. According to Pasketti's fine parsing tool, DPS ranged from 81.86 to 115.89 average per mob. Swifty is in my off-hand.
Aggro was never an issue. My last main-hand, an 11/17 piercer, drew just as much aggro. Jolt is needed, as it always has been, proc or no.
Guys, this is a really sound weapon choice for your main blade. Rare though; we've taken down IV almost weekly for 3 months. This is the 1st one we've seen.

Aye, gratz on a nice weapon. I was awarded a Ribcracker from IV tonight and thought it was decent (would have been better if it was primary/secondary.... after all, what will I do with Swifty?) but your sword is great addition.

This weapon is about DPS, that's really it. For the difficulty of the mob, this is pretty straight on. With the stats you're looking for, I'd expect it from at least Shei, if not off Arch Lich or one of the other mid SSRA bosses.

Concerning the monk weapons, there's only one from IV: Fist of Glowing Acrylia. The original Fist of Acrylia was removed from his drop table, and rightly so. That was *way* overpowered for the encounter. The FoGA was toned down quite a bit, and the relative rarity puts it on par with the encounter. Besides, you can't expect every drop from a mob to be equivalent in terms of power.

All i have to say is that this weapon would not be an aggo issue on a raid in the hands of a ranger... though Earthcaller has a supriseingly low aggo for its effect.. wavecrasher... fleshgrinder.. ect dont... i use to carry these weapons with me all the time and yes i can grab aggo at times but loose it just as ez... and i tank all the time in UP and Planes so who said rangers cant tank is wrong... we may not do it as well but we can...

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 03 2002 at 5:52 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well crippling snare was bad enough but using jolting blades and jolt/cinder jolt on hot key was manageable. This weapon could very get bagged in many occasions. Dont forget carless lightnig is AE spell (also you take dmg too). So not only are you going to kill your chanters in short order by breaking mezzes but as this baby procs you will also take dmg too. Lovely! also lets not forget that careless lightning is an outdoor only spell so this weapon should be good indoors.

# Jul 01 2003 at 11:43 AM Rating: Default
Fellow Rangers Do not pay any attention to this post. All info is wrong. Careless lighting is a Single Target DD spell, and can be cast indoors..
RE: bad to worse ask me
# May 10 2003 at 9:58 AM Rating: Decent
ok.. couple things.. first of all - like has been said it is a 99dd proc, not aoe.

second, straight DD procs give very low agro, trust me i used a couple weps like Snowchipper that proc DD. so if you have a tank that knows what Taunt, Disarm, Auto Attack, and possible Beg is... you should have no probs keeping agro off of you, WITHOUT Jolt of any form (a 61 warrior can keep agro off me at 57 using Serrated Cutlass of Hatred and Swiftwind with Call of Fire up (65dd + instastun), and i usually dont have to jolt unless i proc like 3 times in a row).

third, procs like jolt, in a normal group anyway, can actually be a bad thing.
lets say your group is:
Cleric, Chanter, Warrior, Ranger, Wizzy, Shammy
cleric/chanter/wizzy get agro, and are going down fast. you go attack em to pull agro off of em, cast a tangling weeds and flame lick.. and jolt procs. you just lost that agro, mob goes back to cleric/chanter/wizzy, things go bad, you are likely to lose more people, if not all (depending on who it was, exact situation etc.). doesnt happen every day, but id still rather stick with free damage proc than a jolt.

Merrile you obviously never played a ranger. careless lightning is a DD ,as in direct damage (yup what the other guy posted as well), and it can be cast everywhere.

#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 04 2002 at 10:56 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well rozas perhaps you should mem your level 39 spell and cast it when you are meleeing a mob keeping close eye to your health...Oh yes I play a ranger and know first hand that careless lighting is in fact an AE spell. DD means direct damage but it does not limit its effect.
RE: bad to worse ask me
# Nov 08 2002 at 4:07 AM Rating: Decent
You must be thinking of Lightning Strike - druid level 34 AE for 184 - not a ranger spell, and only a ranger proc off the Wuoshi bow. Woot for ranger quadding!

Edit: Craptastic dagger proc too - silly me =/

Careless is a 99 point single target nuke, and a level 19 druid spell.

If nothing else, just read the spell info at the top.

The proc has been changed to Careless Lightning, which should end all the arguments over the agro it would cause.

All this talk of "OMG Ranger would DIE from Aggro!","Your grp would hate you".Well first off lets get something straight..I am not a lowly Ranger...I have had 2 rangers..one 55(Current) and one 50(Old Character before remake).I have over 120 Levels worth of xp combined with all my characters. So that said, lets take a look at this thing.

Hmmm...1)14 Dmg 19 Dly=Godlike DPS.The proc isnt what will accrue the most Aggro..its the dmg a 55+ Ranger can output with this weapon in Offhand or Secondary.

2)If your a 50+ Ranger and you dont have enough common sense to use Jolt(Cinder Jolt or Jolting Blades at later levels)imbedded into your brain then delete your ranger and play a warrior.

3)I Snare every mob I attack unless I know for a fact they will not run...Snare is damn near as bad as Shammy or Chanter slow.Instant Aggro.

4)If your Tank cannot control aggro..tell him to delete his warrior and play a Cleric.

Nuff`said...id be MORE them honored to wield this weapon. It would go very well with my 5/14 Whip or 10/18 Sword.

Two slight oversights in your reasoning. First, sure a Ranger usually snares mobs unless they're sure they don't run, but they don't snare it 3 or 4 times during a fight. Second, Jolt spells aren't the b-all end-all in aggro management. And thirdly, a tank's job is NOT to keep aggro from everyone else in a group/on a raid. If it were, you'd have Wizards/Mages dumping their mana as soon as a mob gets in range, and the melees popping their damage disc's immediately. A tank's job is to take the hits. It's the job of the other participants to make sure the tank keeps aggro. If you've got a weapon that causes so much aggro the main tank can't keep it, you very well may be asked to switch weapons. That being said, since the proc is now Careless Lightning, aggro management is a bit less of an issue.

Well, it's a moot point now since the proc was changed, but I would like to point out something. From my understanding, Crippling Snare did not overwrite normal Snare/Ensnare or the druid epic effect. So, snare the mob at the start of the fight, jolt it back off of you, and no more random aggro from procs.
RE: Blech
# Jun 21 2002 at 6:52 PM Rating: Default
no, the proc will still give you more aggro. it's the same as grabbing aggro with tangling weeds when you already snared.
aggro is depending on weither you cast on the mob, not if the spell sticks.
but what the other guy says about jolt, when jolt is resisted ,it will not lower your aggro, BUT resisted snares will, big time, so you will get aggro fast, beleive it or not)

Simple solution for a simple problem.
# Mar 03 2002 at 1:58 AM Rating: Decent
Personally, Solipsis found the simplist solution to the problem of high-aggro procing weapons. Keep the mob rooted and have a group with A) a tank that is paying attention to his screen and steps in when they see the rooted message/call and B) has other melees that know when to step back when they hear "rooted %t". Problem solved for 99% of monsters in Norrath and Luclin.

Besides, if a ranger (or group with a ranger) can't maintain keep the aggro on a tank after this weapon procs, how could they manage to hold aggro over Earthcaller proc or worse, a shaman that has to malise then slow a mob to keep it from beating the warrior into a smear on the floor in 9 seconds?

A few things about the weapon and the posts...
# Feb 27 2002 at 6:05 AM Rating: Good
Agro management,

You want AGRO:
- Flame lick
- snare

You DONT want AGRO:
- Wait for MA to get solid agro
- engage
- Jolt after 5 seconds (cinder if you got, depending on mob ofcourse)
- repeat jolt at signs of agro, or just plain turn off atk
- Make sure MA is close to the mob, and youre somewhat far but in melee range

And about the posts... Yeah, this baby would make any ranger into bloody pulp if used where agro is not wanted. If youre soloing or MA (yes, some rangers can actually MA in many situations) its absolutely awesome.

anyone who uses this in a NToV or plane raid will get aggro not lose it and die, and wont get invited again. solo it rocks

typical this good luclin weapon has a disadvantage but we dont see the other class drops have same prob, pallies get a self heal geez

why not give the snare to the warrior wep and a sta or dex proc for the ranger?

Besides, any ranger who gets this is probably of sufficient lvl to have the Jolting Blades weapon proc spell. The proc effect on this isnt that much different then the Silken Whip of Ensnarement. Its just about aggro management is all. Thats why we get spells like Jolt and Jolting Blades.
RE: hmmm
# Feb 25 2002 at 6:43 AM Rating: Decent
Bah. They can use it anywhere where mob not running is essential. In a group or not. The only place they shouldn't use it is in a single fight where the mob won't run and will squash the wielder in a few seconds. That goes for the dragons and wurms at ToV and for example the guy in the black skirt that originally drops this thing. Don't want a runner get friends to kill your raid in ToV... or anyplace else, use this.

#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 24 2002 at 7:55 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) no kidding, dude if you think rangers run back out of fights just to use a bow you are a ******. Yes, rangers use their bows, but ONLY when melee isn't so necessary! Do you have any idea of the damage we are capable of? ask a ranger to show you, and weep =)
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 24 2002 at 5:30 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is a nice upgrade for epic main hand no matter how you slice it. The snare on this blade does not generate as much aggro as the slow/dot from the earthcaller. Verant wants to punish rangers in any way possible...it's been like that since i started playing EQ. If you are new to the high lvl ranger game you will soon learn to take your class beatings in stride.
No Problems here
# Feb 23 2002 at 1:00 PM Rating: Excellent
I got this weapon on Luclin a couple weeks ago, been using it steadly since then, I match it up with swiftwind if I need agro, and Earthcaller for agro managment. I havent had a single problem with agro, either getting it or lossing it. If by the time a Ranger gets this weapon, they cant control agro, then they have a bigger problem than the Blade itself.

Has anyone given thought as to why all these godly weapons are showing up all of a sudden, well I have and I think that verant is going to introduce some mobs that make the dragons from velious look like childs play, I mean look at some of the named mobs on luclin, zelnithak from umbral said to have 120k hp, I mean thats a large amount of hp even for a named in a high lvl zone, so maybe verants preping us for some real wicked mobs and stepping up the "lets help each other" idea of the game, just my thoughts on these very sweet weapons were seeing now
