Gains power with the destruction of Alarans.
This item is the result of a quest. Expansion List - Premium only.
Thanks to the new auto-loot feature introduced in early 2015, maxing this item only takes a few weeks now.
Equip your tear and head to Sarith. There will you find a handful of NPC's with proper names that are to be killed for quests updates. These NPC's are in various places and are on a 45-50 second re-spawn timer. Get your your mercenaries and pets and pile up on these NPC's for non-stop killing of Alaran. Set your advanced loot options to have everyone select Always Need on the Fragments that drop that when clicked, give 5% XP to your stone.
Using this method, I was able to max three stones in about three months. You can also set your advanced looting rules to loot the tradeskill items and sell those to buyers in the bazaar to make up for all mercenary costs plus walk away with a little bonus plat.
I started my adventure leveling my Tear in Erillion, City of Bronze where I had found my first Fragment of Legendary Alaran History. after about 6 levels of this I got a tell talking about how the Arena, in the Underground city of Shard's Landing was a better bet for leveling said Tear. so I packed up my 4 box set up and headed to camp. This place is where its at for leveling this tear!!! Most mobs do not assist one another, and you almost cannot run out of mobs to kill, im currently at 47 Fragments after just 8 days of 2 - 6 hour camping times, at least getting 1 fragment per 100 mobs, and one lucky day I had 5 fragments drop within 15 mins!!!!
here is my set up: I set up camp right in the middle of the arena, 2 rangers to headshot with, shaman, bard, tank merc, cleric merc. im killing on average 100 Alarans per hour and not running out of mobs to kill. Purple skin colored mobs are higher level, give good faction for the zone/missions in zone, and seem to drop more Fragments then the light blue skin colored mobs.
First thing I noticed was I was getting more XP on my tear per kill here than in CoB
The purple skin colored Alarans directly outside of the arena (an arena sentry) have Faction Increases to Forsaken Believers and The Conscripted and Factions Decreased The Believers These mobs are a bit tricky for you cannot throw or shoot a bow at them for whatever reason, so they will need to be melee'ed down, can headshot with your physical spells, I imagine decap and assassinate will still work as well.
IMPORTANT: Keep in mind the "swap timer" for evolving items. You must have the evolving item equipped for a while to get kill credits. This is to prevent players from using a more powerful item in the same slot and then swapping in the evolving item at the last moment of the fight. This timer negates any kill credits for a few minutes after you equip the Tear or any other evolving item. This sucks for anyone using AMMO to pull. If anyone has info about this timer in relation to the Tear, please post it here.
untrue, if you bring up inventory and look under "skills" you can actually see that your defense is over cap. does anyone know if this finally evolves like a normal item off of anything that grants exp now with the July 16,2013 patch?
While you may have already found out from killing this still only gains XP in VoA zones. Verified this last double XP weekend. While doing the hot zone task in valley i gained 9% killing 5 mobs. Soon as i left and started doing RoF group stuff (that wasn't in a zone on Alaris) it never gained another sliver of XP. Any RoF zone that is on Alaris, or any VoA zone will give XP
I have recently started using this item in ammo slot and my group is slowly progressing through t4 VoA. It is currently at 1/20 and 23% in after only a couple tasks in VoA. I have only ever used it in ammo slot, so I would think that can verify it will evolve in ammon slot only. I did not track any information on whether it evolves when killing Alarians only.
You get stats (and evolution) with it in ammo, just in case anyone was still wondering about that. Really the only saving grace of this bit of silliness. Supposedly it literally takes 1,000,000 (yes, one MILLION) mobs to fully evolve. It's supposed to be the "thing people who've done everything else there is to do in game do when they still want to see some form of progression". Personally, I think the 20/20 should include a visit from a hooker of the gender of your choice, since you'll obviously not have had any human contact for a couple of years by that point.

This items will evolve only by killing Alaran people, which excludes all animals, elementals, pig-men, original Norrathian races. Tear must be worn to evolve, like any evolving items. The only alternative is use the Fragment of Legendary Alaran History which grants 10% on tears (capped to 100%), at least up to level 6. It is gained by succeeded the optional part of partisan task in Pillars of Alra. The bonus is more linked to the max allowed than the %. A lot of people are 300+ on defense skill, meaning a bonus of 3 points per %, but you will always be capped by the max in parenthesis. For example, at level 2, the Tear will only grants 1 points instead of 3 ; you got 2 points at level 4 and 3 point at level 6. And more ironical, when you hit level 7 (2% bonus), you get 0 upgrade since still capped at 3 point, compare to the the 6 points corresponding to 2% of 300. So progression on Tear is more accorded to the max allowed, which may be far from the annouced % (at level 20 10 points against 15) : Level 1 = 0 point Level 2-3 = 1 point -> 0.3% against 1% Level 4-5 = 2 points -> 0.6% against 1% Level 6-7 = 3 points -> 1% against 2% Level 8-9 = 4 points -> 1.3% against 2% Level 10-11 = 5 points -> 1.6% against 2% Level 12-13 = 6 points -> 2% against 3% Level 14-15 = 7 points -> 2.3% Level 16-17 = 8 points -> 2.6% Level 18-19 = 9 points -> 3% Level 20 = 10 points -> 3.3% against 5% The evolving of this item is already a pain, SOE may at least have not provided foolish information.
notes : As I am writing this post stats for level 14 to 19 are logical estimations.
I just cleared Beza once again before coming to read your replies (thanks for answering) and again, not 1 % of evolution. Therefore, the statement of progressing only on VoA mobs may be correct. (I also did equip it on my charm slot as a guildie had told me that it wouldn't work on ammo slot).
Next time, will have to try VoA mobs and see if I at least get some movement.
Did you make sure that item was turned on in the Inventory window (Evolution? tab)? If you're doing multiple items it takes more, and definitely 4 or 5 or more items would take more than 1 clearing to get 1% on all of them. It seemed liked for the Crystallos Haste belt alone, it took about 20 or more mobs per 1%.
Did you leave it on a while before starting? The delay is pretty significant from what I hear (a few minutes or more).
EDIT: Since you don't get stats from Ammo slot, I doubt it will evolve in that slot either, if you happen to have had it in there.
The AMMO slot *does* grant stats. This was not true a while back but now it does. Perhaps you meant something other than "Ammo", Yther.
Have not had luck getting evolve progress on non-Alaran mobs (ie, beasts, etc.) but haven't done any dedicated testing. Certainly have heard from a couple of the big guilds on my server that it is Alaran-kills only to level this up.
Also, I notice the Lore text states, "Grants a unique power while on Alaris." This would imply that the item only grants stats while in VoA zones, but I see my Defense go up from equipping the Tear in non-VoA zones. Perhaps the Devs mis-worded the text, or perhaps they will make it not function outside VoA in the future. *shrug*
Ammo is what I meant, but was either unaware or had forgotten about the change. I skipped alot of patch notes the past year while I didn't have a subscription, and even the ones I read I may have forgotten without being in-game to investigate the stuff in detail.
That alone makes this a worthwhile item then. I doubt I would of used it with only 10 max (2 levels) difference in defense at the loss of ac, hps, and mana, as well as tons of mod2s.
I also was unaware of any changes to evolution, but it doesn't surprise me. They've been adding alot of unique-ish ways of doing things the past several expansions. I'm just glad someone with first hand or at least more accurate knowledge replied.
Any experience mob. Most suggest green cons or barely light blue cons as most people believe it's basically the same amount of progression % per kill, despite the con. You also have to evolving enabled for the item on the evolution tab of the inventory window, and also have the item equipped. There is also a delay after equipping the item before kills evolve it to avoid people from evolving weapons by using a good one 90% of the fight then switching to the one needing evolution. Using a bandolier, even if not switching slots, still resets this for items in Primary, Secondary, or Ranged slots.
Avoid using clickies that need to be equipped in the evolving items slot as well when working on evolving it, to avoid resetting the delay.
