Faction in zones?

Does anyone know if faction hits are greater in some zones that others?

Like if I kill giants in Kael will i get more faction than in Greate Divide?

Can anybody think of any possible way that one could become non-KoS with all 3 primary factions in Velious? I'm thinking it'd be a really cool accomplishment, but to jokey quest hits vs. kill hits would be the only way to do it and it would be REALLY hard. Somewhere along the line I heard someone say negative hits from quests never make you KoS... so... maybe killing giants till I can do faction quests with Dragons, then max dragon faction then kill dragon stuff to raise the Giants till Dubious or so with dragons then do dragon quests and work CoV up again?... Please post comments to help me think on this, I've read the sites here a lot and am trying to figure out a way this might work.

Even if it is possible to do this, it would not help much since to do most (or all?) of the quests in Kael or Skyshrine, I am pretty sure your faction has to be at least kindly. hile it may be possible to be non-KOS to everybody (but not sure about that), I think I can say with confidence that it is impossible to be kindly to all the factions.

I'm happy to see something realistic. These wars are real to these NPCs and the idea of some outsider being a pal to everyone just doesn't make any sense at all. Sure it is nice to collect all the cool toys and be a big shot but, as in real life, some things just shouldn't be possible.

The whole idea is that you do have to choose sides..it was intention to make the faction different from the rest of norrath.

Also, faction hits are faction hits.
They range from -3000 or so to +3000 or so.
KOS being below -500 and warmly being about +500.

Some kills only do + or - 1 point.
Almost all quests do more points from top down.
Meaning if you get +Claws, -Krom then you will
likely get +1 claws and -2 krom or some ratio
like this. What this means is there is no way
to make your faction balanced. The more you get negative hits, the harder you have to work to get non KOS to them and the more KOS you will get with another group or groups.

There is a limit, so there is a finite limit on how bad you can get. Say you take -krom hits till your at -3000 or so (the exact amount is based off your rase/class/etc as to the precise value) then when you start taking +krom hits it will lower your standing with the other or others faster than it raises your krom.

Were screwed. What this means is I do not now and will not in the future enter Velious until there is a break to the system and Sony has said this is a good thing so I doubt there will be a change to the system.

It makes sence to me *shrug* I have no problem with this system from a role-playing point of view.

The dragons vs dwarves, and giants vs dragons, these factions are at war. Either your with em, or your agin' em. ; )

Dwarves and Dragons apparently do not care about one another, so its possible to have good dwarf and good dragon, but I dont think it is possible to have good faction with all 3.

Basically, the giants are the least liked on Velious. Both the dragons andd the coldains are their enemies. The dragons and the coldains have an "enemy of my enemy" relationship going on; they don't exactly like each other, but they don't want to kill each other. This means the easiest factions to get on the good side of are the dragons and coldains, but taking on the giants. As far as I know, most people's starting faction is usually apprehensive to coldain, threatingly to giants, ready to attack to dragons. This may vary depending on your class/race/deity. This is how I started as a Cazic-Thule worshipping iksar monk. With 67 giant kills (some on our guild's raid of Kael Drakkal, some in Eastern Wastes by the Rygorr fort) I'm now indifferent to coldain and ready to attack to giants. Haven't had a chance to check my dragon faction yet, I'd imagine I'm still KOS at the time being.

Raids on Kael Drakkal is a great way to raise dragon and coldain faction, by the way. I was only level 32 on our guild's raid there, didn't get the benefit of experience, but got great faction benefit. Also got a sceptre of mastery when another guild killed the level 58 guy who had it; it was no-drop monk only and I was the only monk in the zone, so they let me loot it.

Easier to lower than to raise
# Feb 07 2001 at 8:47 PM Rating: Default
I read a post somewhere on the EverQuest forums that lowering your faction is easier than raising it, i.e. killing one skyshrine MoB requires the killing of 2-3 or more giants to balance out.

If you want to be able to be ported into Wakening Lands without getting smooshed by Wuoshi, I recommend killing Giants until they stop giving CoV faction increases.

What good is having good faction with Claws of Veeshan? I was thinking my goal would be to have good faction with the dwarves and the giants, and so far, the only thing I can find to kill that will raise my faction with both are the Yeldakin (or whatever) and ClawsofVeeshan factions. Is there any reason I would want faction with them? I don't want to shoot myself in the foot later on.

Lynnx, The reason you want faction with Claws of Veeshan is because the dwarves and dragons in Velious are opposed to giants. Killing giants raises both CoV and Dwarf factions, while killing either dwarves OR CoV faction NPCs will drop both CoV and Dwarves.

The math alone tells you that more people will like you in Velious (at least up to Skyshrine...smile) if you go anti-Giant, and pro dwarf/Veeshan. Only way to reach Cobalt scar and the lands beyond is to run thru Skyshrine which is 100 % CoV faction.

Also, consider Wuoshi ( the dragon at Wakening portal point) is on Veeshan faction, and I personally want to be as friendly with him as I can :-).

It is faster raising dwarf faction than CoV faction, but in my own opinion, worth it to kill the giants and bring faction up with CoV.

Please note it is quite difficult to bring up CoV also. The 4 levels of giants (literally several hundred giants) that I've killed has only raised me to Glares Threateningly, although I did visit skyshrine with a group of friends who killed a few things. Thankfully not much, but I'm sure it has affected my faction. Who knew they'd put a 60'ish dragon to guarding the teleport circle? Nothing quite like instant death when you teleport into the zone.

One great thing about having good dragon faction is it makes travelling through Velious *much* easier. I'm not sure if I can use the Wakening Lands portal yet (apprehensive dragon faction wasn't good enough), but I was able to get the key to Cobalt Scar (through a quest) and then the dragon tooth for the CS portal. The CS portal is completely safe with good dragon faction. I can get to WL in less then 10 minutes with a port to CS.

Other thoughts: With apprehensive or better dragon faction you can buy/sell/bank in Skyshrine. Vendors I've found there sell food/water, adventuring supplies (bags, etc.), gems, and spells. Melee types can bind in SS too. My .02 anyway.

Apprehensive is perfectly fine with Wuoshi. You may have been a victim of the faction-loading problem, which should be ok now that they've attempted a fix. I could teleport in with 'dubious' faction, and certainly can with apprehensive. Got a few screen shots of me sitting with Wuoshi back when I only had 'dubious' faction. He's really a decent fellow, once you get to know him...
Some giant huntin tips
# Jan 26 2001 at 9:59 PM Rating: Decent
I've droped close to 2000 Berserkers and Elites with friends doing the Shawl quest, and helping friends get the heads/toes needed (about 1/3 drop a toe 1/5 drop a head 1/12 drop both) and have since gotten 21 friends staarted with shawls, Well, I'm kindly with the dwarves, and even killed a couple cause they were botherin me. But ya know, I'm up to dubious in Skyshrine. I figure I need to start droppin the Giants in kael fer a few days, Faction seemed better there.

So far killing ANY Frost Giant in Great Divide has had the following faction hits:

Kromref got worse
Kromzek got worse
ClawofVeeshan got better
Coldains got better

I've now got my faction with the Coldain to Indifferent. I've also heard that Wuoshi uses ClawofVeeshan faction. I'm still "Ready to Attack" to Wuoshi, but am killing FGs left and right. Good luck everybody!!

Is there any way at all to check your Claws of Veeshan faction, other than just running up to Wuoshi and see if she kills you or not?
RE: Faction
# Jul 17 2001 at 2:19 PM Rating: Default
There is a wurm named Kardakor in the cave in GD.
It is on the CoV faction, you can con it to check.
I believe you can click it from outside, just go around the left-backish side of the mountain, or cruise inside the cave...he's in the cave directly next to the Guardian wurms.
RE: Faction
# Aug 05 2001 at 6:43 AM Rating: Excellent
Kardakor is NOT on CoV Faction. He cons indifferent to everyone, as he is a quest mob.
RE: Faction
# Sep 18 2001 at 12:23 AM Rating: Decent
He IS on CoV faction! I found this out the hard way, as there is a bug that will let him attack you should you be walking over the mountain that his cave resides in. Dead in 3 secs. Had only just gotten to GD, so I'd yet to kill any giants, thereby beginning to build up CoV faction. Thank heaven there was a 56 Cleric showing me around :-)
RE: Faction
# Sep 01 2001 at 12:02 PM Rating: Default
I was killing wurms in GD earlier today and happened across Kardakor, he doesn't see through invis, but I checked faction anyhow since dragons tend to disapprove of me - KOS and very red at 51.

i'm a 45 wizard so this will not work for everyone, but i bound myself on the north wall a ways down from Rolandal. every time before i loged out for the day i would gate back and check faction. since he/she/it doesn't see invis you can get close to target it, then go back to a point far enough where you feel safe, drop invis and /con. then i would port myself back to GD or where ever, but like i said, this will not work for everyone
