No, werewolves. Proof: There's a drolvarg in Iceclad named Garou. And there's also an enchanter spell called Boon of the Garou which turns you into a werewolf. Therefore, drolvargs must be armored werewolves.

Even better proof is that the sergeant in FV who does the Gnoll Fang quest says that they're werewolves, who are supposedly led by a powerful sorcerer. Looks like no one's ever figured out who the sorcerer is, either.
