Classes: The Shaman

Shamen - primitive power. The only magic using class of the barbarians, ogres and trolls, shamen get a variety of spells that combine aspects of most of the other magic using classes. This combination, along with the racial strength, means the class can be played in a variety of different ways.

What is the best way to develop and play your shaman? What spells and skills are the most and least useful? Can a shaman be soloed, and if so how? How should you play your shaman in a group?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Shaman and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

How much mana should a level 20 shaman have? I currently have 980.

My main character is a druid and I seem to recall having more mana at level 20. What would be some good equipment be for a level 20 shaman?

Also, I don't mind paying more for good gear as long as I don't need to replace it till level 50 or so.
Thank you,

From a quick glance at http://www.eqrankings.com/index.php?p=list for all lvl 20 shammies it looks like you're doing pretty well on mana.

The PoK focus item quests are good if you don't have improved healing, mana pres, etc already

As a druid and cleric I would want my WIS as close to 200 as possible as early as possible. For my shammy I have 173 WIS and feel that is fine. I wanted more STA and HP in the shammy since he will be doing more melee and more to canni from after 23. I have my Iksar shammy fairly balanced between STR, STA, AGI, DEX and WIS, with WIS being the highest and STA the second highest.

On the issue of canni and mana, my plan when I have the spells is to cast regen then canni as a way to juggle the HP/MANA levels. Does this work? Work well? Or a waste of mana?

A Shaman really is not definded by the mana Limit but by what he can do with that mana in the long run over time so to help with that:
Get Focus itmes to conserve mana,
Get items to Reg mana and HP.
Get a Horse
Learn the Cann Dance

and above all else have fun
