Classes: The Shaman

Shamen - primitive power. The only magic using class of the barbarians, ogres and trolls, shamen get a variety of spells that combine aspects of most of the other magic using classes. This combination, along with the racial strength, means the class can be played in a variety of different ways.

What is the best way to develop and play your shaman? What spells and skills are the most and least useful? Can a shaman be soloed, and if so how? How should you play your shaman in a group?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Shaman and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

Anyone that told you that canni spells can't kill you should get a special place on your ignore list.

Canni 5 is the only canni I haven't killed myself with and I know it's only a matter of time for that one too.

Canni 5 is the reason most, if not all, high level shaman say HP is more important than any other stat. If you don't have 2500 buffed HP, using canni 5 anywhere near anything even remotely dangerous is a death sentence. Blood aggro will finish you off even if you actually do survive the canni itself.

Most high level Shaman have stories about the time the cannied themselves to death in the middle of a raid. Some are actually funny too.

Don't know who told you it couldn't kill.. if you do not have the required HP that canni need poof you are dead...

I was very embarrassed while standing outside POF we had all just wiped... and just rezzed .. all medding... well I without thinking or doing my normal hp check... canni 5'd and died ROFL...

Upon getting back as I was binded there.. I had about 20 toons look at me ROFL with bewildering comments lol they couldn't understand what had killed me so quick they were all running about looking for the mean beastie that got me ROFL.. so you can imagine what they had to say when I said ... no no it was no beastie.. urmmmmm....

Since then I am extra careful... lol hopefully it only took one death for me to learn my lesson and learn it well lol

lol there are many clever and creative ways shammys can kill themselves with spells, cannabalize is only one. I, for one, learned the hard way not to have my cannabalize and heal spells right next to each other on the spell bar....

Canni 5 can kill you both directly, and indirectly, as stated by Cattywumpus =).

If you don't have enough HP, of course, it will kill you.

There are those encounters, also stated by Cattywumpus, where low hp agro kills you. Especially when you are battle rezzed and such, and need mana ASAP, but are not yet HP buffed.

And then... there are those times when you canni while being hit and end up killing yourself because the healers can't keep up with the damage intake. For example. the last time my guild cleared killed Ikkinz2, we had 4~5 monsters mezzed in the entrance hall, because of an overpull. I ran up, slowed, crippled, and malos'd them all, then sat down. My guild leader jokingly told me I'd better get ready to tank them ;). We all laughed (I'm notorious for dying on my guild's raids), and I moved back to everyone else. My mana was low, so I clicked my Mass Canni hot key, just as 3 of the mezzes wore off at the same time. 3 kyv's doubling on me for 1200, coupled with the 1900+ canni damage... heh heh, thank the Tribunal for clicky-sticks ;). (I think i died a total of 9 times that raid)

P.S. Hurting yourself has its benefits, aside from gaining mana. In PvP, if you get rooted, canni'ing counts as being nuked, so it breaks root. Just a lil tip ;).

I just got Can 5 this weekend, I thought I would be freeing up a spell slot Can 4 but no, due to the extramly long refresh time. Still I am glad I have it, due to the larger mana in one cast it creates and with Qu cast first I am back up to full in no time. I expect to die from casting on myself very soon.

Happy Hunting

I know this is a bumb of a few months, but I was wondering whether killing yourself with Canni (of any sort) does a xp hit against you, or is it like a duel, and no hit? (Have not died yet with canni, but gotten close a few times)

Have found out on another board http://crucible.samanna.net/index.php that dieing by Canni of any sort does take xp away from you <sigh> lol. Guess is not a Get Out Of Trouble Free card, if too many mobs on you.

Im a noob shammy guys so please bare with me. I play a high level necro and just recently started a shammy on another account so I can 2 box. Does the cannibalize line of spells when cast take away the hp's instantly OR is it like the necro lich line where its a set amount of hp's until you either die, healed or the spell runs its course.

Thank You in advance.

Canni is an instant one-time conversion of HP to mana. You lose the HP and gain the mana as soon as the spell casts.
