Classes: The Shaman

Shamen - primitive power. The only magic using class of the barbarians, ogres and trolls, shamen get a variety of spells that combine aspects of most of the other magic using classes. This combination, along with the racial strength, means the class can be played in a variety of different ways.

What is the best way to develop and play your shaman? What spells and skills are the most and least useful? Can a shaman be soloed, and if so how? How should you play your shaman in a group?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Shaman and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

Wow, thank you very much Campdog,I see what you mean, I guess I need to run my little froggy butt around some more and try and see a little more of norrath, I pretty much always stick to the same zones because I know them, but, I guess that is not as good as I thought, tho I do like the old school zones a lot more, and I hate to see them get vamped. thay are the best link to the old days of EQ when everyone was there to have fun and the game had a kind of magic about it, I remember when the splitpaw gloves where just awesome and thay sold for like 500pp each, wich is like 10000 now, I see money being throne around like it is nothing now (wich comes from people buying plat) and that I do not understand. my dad's got a level 70 druid, and for the longest time I would just start to PL my guys up real fast, and I never understood why I did not like them as much when I got them up to higher levels, but I now understand, I did PL my shaman some, because I wanted to get to my friends level so that we could group (level 19) but I said that I would not PL any more once I got there, and I did not and will not, I know I know, yall may think i'm just one of the people that PL up to 65 in a week, but I don't, my main is a 61 monk, and I have been playing a long time...I really do like to fight to get what I have, it makes it more fun, and when you get good stuff, it's like, wow, I really worked for all this...I would just like to thank you again Campdog, you must be some shaman man, any wizdom that you would like to pass down, I would love to know.....thanks again

Man is this thread still running? Boy.. I started this about four or five months ago and time does fly. My Shamy now is lvl 62 and I spend most of my time in BoT working on AA's. campdog has helped me more than anyone on my road to Adventuring. Because of him, i don't run to PoK everytime I'm outta Kei, That is what Cann' is for. If I get in a group with a chanter, sure I'll take a hit but I don't look for it. My Toon's name is Slowpaw on the old Mathanial Marr server, I think it's Seryn or something like it now. If you are in the erea and want a group look me up Norath is a big place and want to see and do it all. Thanks guys

My first toon was a Ogre Warrior. My lifestyle changed due to children, so I made a Shammy. I think any class that has an Ogre as an option you must take. Now there are downfalls, an xp penalty, which I have never noticed. However the benifits out way the pentaly. The Ogre can not be stunned from the front. When soling later in the game this is very important.. This allows a better success rate casting spells. The stats when you make your toon can not be touched by any other race. I put all my points in STA. Which at lvl 1 is 150, then the rest in wisdom. As far as tweeking well I do it always, that is just my preference. Currenty my Shammy is lvl 68, I Work aa's now. If it dosen't summon I kill it with ease. Well good luck with your Sham. See ya on the battle field.

Well, Slowpaw finnaly made 70 and has 250 AA's now. But I still don't have all my 69 and 70 spells. Those runes don't just drop off the tree's ya know. I spend a lot of time in WoS and MPG hoping to find a group with no slower and have even been main healer in WoS a few times. That's a blast!!If your ever there give Shadow Hunter my best...
My solo ground of choice is PoM. easy single pulls and some ok loot. But Leopard is a must for you and pet. I can't believe i went so long and didn't get it. That 400 proc' rocks but too short imo.
I took Campdogs advice and try to melee everychance I get and am proud to say all my skills and def' are maxed, but he's right a Ranger can kick my butt at will.
I guess the best advice I could give a new Shamy would be to get a good group of friends and explore all you can. Everyday I see folk doing the grind non stop like this is a job. Heck I still go back and do quests with friends or help them do theres just to break things up now and again. It's a game called Ever QUEST not EverGrind.
One more thing, Try to get those greater and glowing runes as fast as you can. There a bear to find and on a roll from 200 300 I'll get a 201 every time.lol

I agree with you on the rate of Greater and Glowing runes dropping is just plain wrong. Finally got my second Glowing (YAY for SS!!) and one away from group Wunshi (buffing a raid with single cast = huge PITA).

Get the AA's for SCRM to make Panther and all your buffs last 50% longer. It really makes a difference while soloing.

Congrats on 70, and picking the class of Shaman.

In a game where people come and go, it's really cool to read a thread that starts with the talk of creating a puppet, and follows through 1 year later to find the puppet at 70 +250. Well Done :)
