Classes: The Shaman

Shamen - primitive power. The only magic using class of the barbarians, ogres and trolls, shamen get a variety of spells that combine aspects of most of the other magic using classes. This combination, along with the racial strength, means the class can be played in a variety of different ways.

What is the best way to develop and play your shaman? What spells and skills are the most and least useful? Can a shaman be soloed, and if so how? How should you play your shaman in a group?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Shaman and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

I do! I do! heheh Like I said I'm curious about PvP but already have 3 alts and don't wanna spend time on a fourth. I have quite a few questions but in an effort to keep things brief I'll tell ya what I visualize and you can tell me where I'm off base, if you will.

OK... The Pvp world has all the same rules and conditions as regular EQ but with an added element of players being able to kill players outside the arena. Anywhere in fact. As a result payers band together in 'teams'. Each 'team' has a territory but other teams can come there and kill ya. You can also be attacked in the field whilst yer hunting mobs. There. That's what I know about PvP.

I don't know if others can loot yer corpse when they kill ya. If they can't I wonder what benefit there is to killing players outside of personal satisfaction. Is there such a thing as 'team' faction? If players can kill other players can they also kill people on their 'teams'? What happens if they do? Is it possible to accidentally spell a team or group member whilst hunting mobs? Are mobs more kindly disposed to one team over another? How does Evil and Good alignment figure into the equation?

I could think of more questions but I'll leave it here and see how far Chap's ball...erm... discussion rolls :-)

come Feb 8th all PvP servers are gonna merge to one server and just be called Zek. the new server is going to have Rallos Zek rule set which is that you can attack any race within 4 levels of you. they did away with the item loot and cash loot when LDoN came out cause you just aug all yer gear and they couldnt loot a NO DROP item off of yas. as to what you get out of PvP it is just personal satisfaction. now you also get PvP points which can be spent at a merchant for different stuff. also if you want a camp spot you can try to take it. Tallon Zek used to be very territorial. everybody knew what guilds controlled what xp zones and raid zones. Pandemonium controlled the planes and Discordia/Indignation alliance were stuck in Vex Thal for example. so basically PvP servers had a strong sense of survival of the fittest. newcomers if not truely dedicated would be weeded off the server very quick and those that love PvP would stick it out thru the low lvl hell and no money hell to reach greatness and excitement on a PvP server. i spent a year playin on Ayonae Ro before going to a PvP server. i had a lvl 50 wizard, 50 shaman, 45bard, and various other low lvl alts. i had invested a good amount into playin on that server but when i started on Tallon i knew that it was going to be my new home and never regreted going and stayin. starting from scratch knowing what i already had on another server was the hardest thing but i couldnt be happier now, and i didnt neccessarily pick a super strong PvP class to play either but i do aight and i just got Time flagged last nite so some loot in due time will make my life easier. SHAMAN POWA!!!

I play on PvP and Blue server. I find exp a little quicker in Pvp because you tend to group more and almost always have Temp on when hunting. If you live to Pvp exp does not come quick so it is great to have a Shaman/druid or cleric friend. I like to Solo but I have to constantly look over my shoulder and have my Gate or potion ready to evac the area. Even a group member can become a PVP killer at any moment so dont **** someone off...LOL

Well actually you should not kill people in your group, it will be well known on Zek that you do, and you will have a problem finding groups later on. But kicking someone out of group first and then kill him is seen as a little bit different, especially if a player goes afk a long time or often and expect his toon to get exp... then people will start saying he deserved it... And when a mission is completed, the group is disbanded which open up new possibilities...

Sometimes group members decide to pvp each other in mutual agreement to a certain% or death. This can be okay, depending on when and where, but this can also really **** me off. I've been in groups that done this, and then when these ppl are almost dead they expect the healer to heal them, then they go again for a second try, and suddenly mobs start popping, and your group is at low health, your healer oom and you wipe.

There goes your 50pp kei and your 50pp virtue and there goes more plats for summoning corpse and rez... ending the evening with less exp and less plat than when you actually started a couple of hours ago, and you start writing a "never-going-to-group-with-this-guy-again-list"...

But basically, always know who others are in zone, always be looking over your shoulder, but primarily the real danger is from outside your group, not from your group.

I often get curious about pvp but I don't think it for me in the end, granted there are days where it fun to go to the arena and pvp with a friend for the fun of it.. but I don't think I could live my eq life looking over my shoulder ... wondering if my friend is really my friend or is going to end up killing me when least expected... don't get me wrong I am not knocking pvp different strokes for different folks but I do find it interesting when people post about it etc.. that way we learn all about eq... and who knows maybe one day I will try it lol

PvP is an entirely different world!!!
I wanted to experiance PvP so I tranferred my main from the Bristelbane server to the Zec server. At the time I transfered him he was a 66 Level Ranger with EQ and AM 3.
I got owned at every turn. My PvP record at one point was 24 deaths and 1 kill. I did not know the difference between Panda and Uncarring Skulls. Defiant and Hate killed me so often that I felt they were camping me.
So, if you are thinking of joining the world of PvP my advice would be to start from the ground level, learn who is who and make friends fast.
For what it is worth I will never go back to PvE.
