Classes: The Paladin

Paladins - Icons of Virtue. The paladin combines the strength and battle prowess of a fighter with the healing and buffing of a cleric.

What is the best strategy for developing your paladin? Can a paladin be soloed, and if so, how? How should you play your paladin within a group? What skills should you concentrate on developing? What spells are most useful, and least useful? What armor and weapons should your paladin be seeking out?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Paladin and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

Paladin question for all you...er..paladins.

I've read about how monks solo everything at higher levels, bards as well, and even rangers here and there. I'm wondering if paladins have the same ability to solo high-end mobs (like...Trak @ lvl 72, for instance) and such? I know it sounds a little stupid, but having that ability would be nice for the purposes of boredom mitigation and such. I guess the parallel question to this is - as pallies progress, can they tangle with mobs that are above even-con, or is it limited to a certain range of difficulty?

I'm not much into soloing but to give an idea, really what would be the biggest limiter of a Paladin soloing something would be the DPS, or lack of, unless the mob is undead. At high levels/AAs we have plenty of healing ability to keep ourselves alive for things like this. Not being on the level of the very top tier of Paladings today (gear wise) I couldn't honestly speculate what they are capable of.

Oh, and older world dragons and named should be a breeze for a lot of high level pallies today. I know I've probably solo'd something of note but can't really recall, the only dragon that comes to mind is Faydedar for one my 1.0 drops, got him at about level 65.

Also on the range of difficulty, as in fighting mobs above your con, that part is unlikely, unless you have the gear and the AAs, I don't know of anything that cons higher level than me at 72 that I could have much of a chance of killing without flat out burning most every heal and ability up to win the fight, of course this is with gear that averages maybe 200 hp each piece and ~625 AAs, put someone with 500hp gear and equal or better AAs against the same mobs and they would probably make a much easier time of it.

depends of your style of play, myself for example i hate healing myself during a fight, having to constantly switch targets, spell getting interupted, so i just keep ward of tunare up.

i can solo all of the WoS names apart from shadowhunter, however it takes a while since i lack in dps, even with my 2.0. Although bring a mob like Ravenglass in arcstone, i can solo him with ease, doing 19k crits every few seconds really helps bring him down, saddly hes the only undead hardish mob i can get to without major difficultly.

Someone mentioned clerics and "other classes. How do paladins stack up against clerics and berserkers when it comes to soloability, both while leveling and in the high-end? Just curious..

zerkers rule solo, clerics are very good as well.

Paladins dont solo unless its undead, against undead we could probably just out dps a zerker.

Solo...HUM
I can say that I solo in arcstone and Relic with no problem. In Arcstone, the undead are good AA xp. just watch out for the named, But then again I solo that as well. I can get 1 aa per rotation around the area.
relic is a little harder but can be done. The location is over by Porthio. If you can get to the location with out being seen you can sit there and own the undead.

a good paladin can solo damn near anything. good dps, with tons of hp and ac, combined with stuns and heals...all combine to make a powerful foe for any mob.

I am lvl 93 pal with hot and voa raid gear and roughly 2600 AA's currently. A good place right now since it is a HOT zone is undead frogs in Feerott those can be soloed. Doing mobs closer to my lvl I go to SS I do use a rogue merc since mobs are non undead and it helps on undead but you will be able to heal yourself and kill faster and some of the namers are even con.
