Classes: The Monk

Monks - masters of hand to hand damage. The monk is a powerful fighting class. With their unique set of skills and need to keep their weight load down, monks are a very complex class to develop and play correctly.

What is the best way to develop your monk? Which skills should the monk concentrate on learning? What is the best fighting style for a monk? Can a monk be soloed, and if so how? How should a monk be played within a group? How can a monk best use his skills? What weapons and armor should you try to get for your monk?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Monk and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

Should you do the 1.0 Epic?

The question says it all. I'm a level 50 monk and have several 66+ friends who would love to help me. Question is, should I even bother doing this? Parts of it sound appealing, but other parts (Raster) already give me the shivers. With all the newer gear out there are these even remotely worth it? I just want to know. I'm torn working towards the epic or just continuing to level and start to get AA. What do you guys think?

I love the epic 1.0 quests just for their lore and challenge, so I recommend doing them. The accomplishment feels great.

The monk 1.0 is one of the few 1.0's that remain useful at higher levels, as it can now be clicked from inventory. It gives a +40% haste buff which allows you to save on haste potions for those random encounters.

You can skip the very nasty Raster and Targin camps by camping Bro Z in Mountains of Rathe instead. See: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/npc.html?id=3110
