Classes: The Rogue

Rogues - Masters of Stealth. With a variety of completely unique skills, and a fighting style all their own, rogues can be one of the more difficult classes to learn to develop and play correctly.

How should you play your rogue to best take advantage of his strengths and weaknesses? What skills are the most useful, and what is the best way to use those skills? Can a rogue be soloed, and if so how? How should you play your rogue in a group? What equipment should you be searching for?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Rogue and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

I don't get it! When do we start making critical hits? I have this same question for my monk. Warriors and Rangers make critical hits pre-AA, don't we? Someone posted here about their crits at level 51, My rogue is level 51 right now, and I've yet to make a Crit. I guess for Rogues and Monks, it's AA only?

Warriors: can crit with all weapons form lvl 12 or so. they can increase there chance to crit with AA.
Rangers: can crit with bows form around lvl 12 or so.to learn to crit with melee weapons the need a AA skil
Rogues/monks/other hybrids: Need an AA skill to crit.

The AA skill is a CLASS aa.
Wich means you need to be lvl 55 and have 6 AA points invested in archtype abilitys to be able to train it.

The new rogues abilty ASSASIN STRIKE. (first at lvl 20)
Whil give you a chance to crit on you BS earlyer....but only useing the ability.

Actually, its an archetype skill. But level 55 is correct. Rogue backstabs have kind of been our 'crits'. Crits were introduced to warriors and rangers when they complained about their damage output being unbalanced compared to rogues, monks, and shadowknights. SOE agreed (then Verant Corp) and gave warriors melee crits and rangers bow crits. About that time rogues got throwing crits, too, but those were pretty useless. The further addition of deadly strike a few months later didn't help at all. The sneak attack discipline line seems to be an attempt at increase rogue available crits. Personally, I have not been too impressed with it.

Frankly, even though I carry a bow, I have little use for range attacks. There are better puller classes out there. Hell, even clerics pull better since they can pacifiy mobs. No rogue ever did his/her job correctly with range attacks.

Just FYI, my rogue is now lvl 32 and i was wondering about crits also, not just regular crits but BS crits, i couldn't care less about regular crits, i tuned this rogue into a BS machine.. at lvl 28 she bs'd for 323(sneak attack) with 150 skill lvl. now at lvl 32 she can hit 400(sneak attack) and regularly scores above 240(non sneak attack) so i'm very glad i saved my 5 spendable skill points per lvl till 25 to max out bs and keep it that way. but i was wondering about crits untill last night i spotted my first crit which was a lowsy 240 but still made me happy to see that i don't need to wait till 55 for everyone to see the power house of dmg i've created ;P but so just FYI i BS critted at 32, not sure what lvl you can first get a BS crit. the wierd thing is i have never seen bs crits pre 55 on any of my other rogue toons ,but /shrug i critted, i saw, i loved , so i took the Screen Shot.

errr....could care less about other crits?
Thats not realy smart.
Your a DPS class....i would like crits because theyll increase my dps...and for that reason --> i care!

But rogues shouldnt get intial crits....doesnt fit the class.
Just saying that i wouldnt mind if they did :) and to care less about increasing your value as a dps class is a bit weird imho

i could care less about other crits because at the lvl i stated that my rogue was at(32) i put out way more dmg then any other class, and w/e there is someone to snare mobs i usually practice intimidation as long as a snared feared mob is safe, and i keep attack off while intimidation graphic is going, and STILL out dps the others in group... not for nothing, i do it because 9 mobs out of 10 if i just keep attacking, i get agro. which if you've ever played a healer class, the MT not being able to keep agro makes it hard on everyone... it's just as important for the main tank to keep agro as it is for the healer to keep ppl healed... , i also don't like taking agro b/c my BS usually does over 250 and if a mob agro's me obviously, i cannot BS. 3 or 4 regular crits won't = the ammount of dmg that one BS crit will. so no.. at lvl 32 i wouldn't care about regular melee crits which as far as i know rogues don't get till the 55 AA. once i am lvl 55 yes regular crits will mean alot to the amount of dps i put out. but at lvl 32 lol a regular crit is unimportant.
