Classes: The Enchanter

Enchanter - the game's traffic cop. When the enchanter yells stop, creatures cease what they are doing and just wait to die. A complex class, enchanters get a variety of spells as well as a pet, and can be played in a number of different ways.

What is the best way to develop and play an enchanter? What spells are most and least important? Can an enchanter be soloed, and if so how? What skills are the most important for an enchanter? How should an enchanter be played in a group?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Enchanter and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

I've just recently returned to Everquest. I last played in the LDoN era. My Enchanter has gotten invited to some groups and I can Tash, Slow, Buff, but I can't Mez. The level restriction on my Mez spell (which is the latest greatest version I can have at 65) is level 68 critters. Unfortunately I'm in groups where everything we fight is Red to me.

I see the same pattern in the future as well. The next Mez spell comes at 67 with a level cap of 70. This just seems all kinds of wrong to me. Is any other class so severly restricted in what levels they fight? I had my 54 Necromancer out in WoS landing DoTs left and right on ... what ... level 65+ stuff. What are we Enchanters expected to do ... bottom feed?

To be fair, you are now grouping in zones designed for level 66+ on a character that is still 65. It's not like you are still fighting in LDoNs and now you can't mez mobs you could before. Similar to if you had stopped playing during Luclin expansion and came back after PoP to find you could not mez anything in BoT. Five expansions have come out while you were away, and to expect to be able to waltz into MPG and be able to mez at 65 seems like wishful thinking.

The pattern you see for the future goes into the past too, Enchanters have ALWAYS suffered from the gaps for mez at various levels. This is not something new. Level 59 mez up to 61, level 61 mez up to 62, level 63 mez up to 65, level 64 mez up to 68.

The answer (which I hate, but is still true) is to level yourself and get the new spells. Yes, you may be stuck grinding in level appropriate zones instead of fighting only red cons, but such is the price of the bottom-feeding enchanter in a group setting.

You are probably right that no other class has such restrictions on one of their class-defining abilities. Enchanters have been nerfed pretty hard over the years, and I think it's partly a testament to how god-like a well-played enchanter can be. If they change something then somewhere a crackerjack enchanter is gonna find a way to use it to do something that makes others jealous, and then the nerf bat comes out. Hence, the limitations on enchanter mez. They don't want enchanters soloing or trivializing content that should be cutting edge for them or their group.

Well, I understood all of what you said before you posted. But the fact remains I cannot perform my primary (or at least what used to be my primary) function as a class the same way any other class can perform their primary function.

I understand that I am behind the level curve now. However, I'm an Enchanter. I can't really solo my way to 70 (not that I would even want to if I could). I have to rely on groups. The vast majority of the population is 70+. Groups need to be able to rely on me and they can't right now. I'm just frustrated.

Wall of Slaughter is just the right level for you, and is a hotzone and has a decent amount of groups in it recently. Monster Missions are level independent and can net you upgrades in gear and augments along with decent xp.

I haven't hunted there myself but I think The Steppes and Sunderrock Springs have camps around your level, as well as drops for the Serpent Seeker Charm of Lore upgrades.

If you have the wherewithall to make your own groups then I'd recommend DoN missions or taking a group to RCoD.

There are options for places to xp for you, but sometimes you have to put in more effort to do it.
