Classes: The Ranger

Rangers - Master trackers. With the skills of both a fighter and a druid, plus some unique skills of their own, rangers can be very difficult to develop and have a number of different ways to be played.

What is the best way to play a ranger? Can a ranger be soloed, and if so how? How should you play a ranger within a group? What spells and skills are the most important for the ranger? How can you develop your ranger to be the most effective? What equipment and armor should your ranger be looking for?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Ranger and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

First thing to do, is make sure you're not using high aggro spells, like Flame Likc or Immolate, nor Snare lines until the mobs is close to running. Next is to use a self-buff Jolt proc, like Jolting Edges. Quit using any other proc buffs, such as poisons. If that's not enough, stop kicking, as it doesn't add alot of dps, but some, but at a much larger aggro cost than the dps gained. The use of some jolt attack discs such as Jolting Hook Kick should help some, although the kick damage adds back some of the aggro removed by the jolt. EDIT: Also avoid using any of the dual-nuke line of spells as they all add extra hate, such as Summer's Storm.

Still grabbing aggro after this. Check your weapon procs, and see if you can remove the high aggro ones (augs) or replace the weapons with innate procs with lots of aggro. High aggro procs include those found at https://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ:Items_Aggro_Procs :: You can find some alternative augs and weapons with Jolt effect at https://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ:Items_Special_Procs#Jolt

If your puling, use a low aggro spell, like Nature's Entropy.

If still grabbing aggro, after removing all aggro procs, and using jolt procs and discs, you can try ranged fighting the first 20-25% before moving into melee range.

Hope this helps some.
