I am confused as to whether rangers get more dps out of melee or ranged. For right now I only plan to do casual groups and solo. However, I have not completely written off raids.
You don't give nearly enough information for anyone to provide a meaningful answer. Check eqoutrider to learn about the ranger class. Gamparse if you are into parsing. Or ask the rangers in your guild, who knows your level, playing skill, favorite hunting grounds, AAs and gear.
