April, 1999

April 30, 1999:  Added information or links to the following sections:  Qenos, Grobb, Highhold Keep, Erud's Crossing, Kerra Island.

April 29, 1999:  Please help me keep this site up to date.  With so many links to other sites, it is hard for me to realize when a link changes or goes dead.  If you follow a link that doesn't work, please let me know so that I can update it.  Also, I am amazed that there do not seem to be maps of several very popular zones.  If you are aware of or wish to create a map to such unmapped zones as Black Burrow, Crushbone, Kerra, Najena, Splitpaw, Befallen, Unrest or any other unmapped zone, please let me know.

I added several new quests.  New information or links have been added to the following:  Kelethin, Runnyeye, Qeynos, Grobb, Qeynos hills, Erud's Crossing, Freeport, Neriak, Lavastorm, Lesser Faydark, Toxxulia Forest, Cazic Thule, General Links, Deities, Southern Ro.

April 28, 1999:  Whew.  Keep those quests coming in.  I have just added in about 15 more quests.  Links or information have been added to the following sections:  Freeport, Oggok, Butcherblock, Felwithe, Crushbone, Innothule Swamp, Kelethin, Steamfont, Qeynos, Baking.

April 27, 1999:  I got several e-mails complaining about the loading time for the player's guide, so I cleared my cache and reloaded it to check.  I have to admit they had a point.  Therefore, I have now split up the guide into different sections.  The Player's Guide itself will have the character creation and playing information.  I have moved races, classes, tips and game commands to their own pages, with links on the left side and within the guide.  Hopefully, this will work better for everyone.  The buttons in the left frame still take a while to load, being gif images, but I kinda like the look.  Let me know if you think they should be changed as well.

Please Keep sending in your Quest Information.  I know there are a lot of quests out there not yet covered in the guide.  Verrant's Geoffrey C. Zatkin posted information about the Spell Research Trade Skill on EQ Vault.  I have added it to the skills section.  There is a very informative revew of EQ by  electricgames.com Go check it out.  Added links to a number of new zone guides Muse has up on EQ Atlas, including a much needed guide to Black Burrow.  Also a link to a new map by Xezol of Black Burrow surface.  Links added to the following sections:  Black Burrow, Qeynos Hills, Crushbone, Everfrost, Western Karana, Butcherblock, Greater Faydark, Steamfont.

April 26, 1999:  I'm glad to see people are posting on the message board.  Not being a computer wizard, it was actually pretty challenging for me to get together.  I have revamped the general links section to make it more useful.  The sites are now broken down as Hall of Fame Sites, Highly Recommended Sites, Recommended Sites and Useful Sites, and I have added more detailed descriptions of what you might find there.  Added some more quests.  Added Bind Wounds to the Skills Section thanks to information provided by Bel.   Also added links to the following sections:  Faydwer Continent,  Misty Thicket, Fletching, Blacksmithing, Necromancer.

I appreciate the people who have sent me announcements on upcoming events and such.  I am not ignoring you.  Because sites such as EQ Stratics and EQ Vault do such a good job covering those, I have not made a policy of posting such announcements.  I prefer to use the time I have available to keep the information sections updated.  I may change my mind later, but for now I will continue with that policy.

April 25, 1999:  THE NEW MESSAGE BOARD IS UP!  Click the message board button to the left to bring it up.  Feel free to post questions, answers, comments and anything else you want.  The webmaster of the Japanese site with the nice maps wrote to tell me that he is changing it around so that I can link directly to the individual maps.  In the meantime, I have changed all of those links to bring you to his main site.

April 23, 1999:  I've found the best map site I have seen yet.  Only problem is that it is mostly in Japanese.  However, there's enough English to use the maps, and their quality is absolutely top rate.  He has maps of East Commonlands, Eastern Karana, Everfrost, High Hold, Northern Karana, North Ro, Oasis of Marr, Qeynos, Qeynos Hills, West Commonlands, Western Karana and Butcherblock. Alas, right now I can't link to the individual maps, (I put up links but they are not getting through) so you'll have to follow the general link to get to them.  I have e-mailed him and asked him to allow me to link to them through the zone sections.  Hopefully, he will allow it, or allow me to repost them here where it will be less lag to get to them.

I have taken the skills section out of the player's guide and placed it on a separate page.  There is a link to it at the left, as well as one from within the player's guide.  I will be expanding it over time to give advice on trade skills and other important skills.  The first expansion comes from an excellent guide on baking submitted by full time wizard and part time baker Tothis.  I welcome other detailed submissions on the other skills.  Added a few more quests.

April 22, 1999:  Whew.  I got a lot of quest submissions yesterday.  Most of them are now on the quest page, but I'm still working on cross referencing them to the zone guides.  Keep sending in your additions and corrections.  There are probably around 50 quests there already, and I'm sure I've barely started to list them all.  Make sure to include your game name and put as much detail into the submission as possible. Thanks.

April 21, 1999:  I know I'm going to regret this, but the response and submissions to the quest page have been so good that I would like to start up another page on items, weapons and armor.  I will need a lot of input from everyone with item information to get it started.  I will probably organize it by the slot the item goes in.  For each item, tell me as much of the following as you can:  what slot it goes in,  what class(es) and race(s) can use it, what it does for you (i.e. +2 ac, +4 dex, including for weapons damage factor and delay), how much it costs, how much it sells for, where it can be found (zone and creature if possible) and anything special about it.  I'll try to give credit to the person who sends the information to me first or who sends the most complete information, so include your character name with your submission.  Now, who's laying odds that this will actually work? *grin*

Added more quests thanks to submissions by Shendar, Ozman and Edmond the Tall.  Also corrected the mistake on the Antonica continent about Beholder.  Thanks to those of you who pointed it out.  Eerok is now level 20, and has updated his Druid Guide to reflect his new level.

April 20, 1999:  I normally don't put general news on this page, but John Smedley posted important information on EQVault about how corpse recovery now works.  I have added it as a tip into the player's guide, but here is the whole post:

"In a nutshell, the Corpse Recovery rules are as follows:  Characters All Levels: If you have no items on your corpse, it will dissapear within 3 minutes.   Characters Level 1-5: Corpse will dissapear within 30 minutes (real time) whether you are online or offline. Those of you wondering why this rule is in place? - There would be WAY to many bodies if we didn't do it this way. Characters Level 6 and above - Corpse will dissapear within 24 hours if the player is online (being at the character select screen STILL counts as online). Corpses will dissapear within 1 week if the player is offline."
Plenty of additional quest information after receiving detailed submissions from Jason and Talison.  Keep sending in your quest information.  Made some minor changes to the player's guide to reflect more current information.

April 19, 1999:  Lots of new quest information has been added thanks to submissions from Rezo, Bigo, Awen, Muse, Vulfgange and Tryam.  If you know about a quest that is not yet included on the page, or have additions or corrections to the ones that are there, please use the contact button to the right to e-mail me as much detail as you can.  I'm also still looking for more map and zone information.  Also added links to the following sections:  Butcherblock.

April 18, 1999:  I'm glad to see people are finding their way to the new address.  I hope to have the new message board up by tomorrow sometime.  I have gotten a lot of new quest information sent to me, and hope to have it up tomorrow as well.  Today, I'm playing the game.  (If you're wondering, I play on the Povar server).  See you in Norrath.

April 16, 1999:  Welcome to Gamestats!  As you can see the page has moved to a bigger and better server with all the benefits of being in a whole community of game sites.  I hope you like the changes.  I got rid of the old index page and made it so that this is the first page you go to when you log onto the site.  I should have a message board up and running very soon  so you can make this more of a community location.  Any suggestions or comments on how to improve this site are welcome.  Also, keep submitting your quest and zone information so that this can be as up to date as possible.  Click on the ads above since it helps gamestats pay for all of this.

April 15, 1999:  More quest information.  Thanks to Lord Vormulak the dark elf and the halfling Ryanne there are now quite a few quests listed for Neriak and Rivervale and the surrounding areas.  Keep submitting those quests when you find them.  There will soon be a major change to this site.  The good folks at Gamestats have agreed to host me on their server and provide me with some technical assistance.  Hmm, me thinks they don't know what they're getting into.  The address of the site will be changing to everquest.gamestats.com.  I will post a page to transfer you there when I make the switch so that you can redo your bookmarks.  The site itself won't change a whole lot, and I'll still be the only one working on it at least until I start to get overwhelmed, but it should run faster and will be connected to all of their other excellent game sites, and they have agreed to help me install a message board that you won't have to log onto Delphi to use.  All of this should probably happen over the next few days

April 14, 1999:  Keep sending in your Quest Information, Maps, and other Guides and Information.  This is not a professional site.  (I think that's probably obvious).  It is solely by and for the game players of Everquest, and you too can contribute (although I do check for quality before posting anything). I will try to give credit to the person who submits anything to me first (look after the quest for the name of the submitter).  Several New Quests were added.  I would like to thank the Barbarian Warrior Cameron for providing detailed information on several quests for Halas.  Also thanks to Cilin of E'Ci for a quest in Felwithe.  The dark elf Andragun has come up with another excellent map.  This one shows all of the zones in Antonica and how they connect to each other.  It is located under the Antonica Continent section.  Added links to maps of Innothule Swamp and Feerot designed by Graggak.  I also added a map link to EQ Vault's Qeynos catecombs maps.  Other links added:  Kelethin, Rivervale, Ogguk, Lesser Faydark, Greater Faydark, Butcherblock, Steamfont.

April 13, 1999:  I have added a new section for quest information.  I have tried to give enough information to let you know the basics of how to do the quest and whether it is worth it without giving step by step directions.  Frankly, most quests in EQ right now are pretty worthless.  It is organized by zone, with quests that span several zones listed in each one.  It can be accessed through the button to the left as well as through specific links I have added to the zone guides.  Right now it mostly covers the Erudin and Qeynos areas.  I will be expending this guide over the next few weeks.  IF YOU KNOW OF ANY QUESTS I MISSSED (which are probably most of them) OR HAVE CORRECTIONS TO THE EXISTING QUESTS PLEASE E-MAIL ME WITH THE SPECIFIC INFORMATION.  Also, another update of Eerok's Druid Guide.

April 12, 1999:   I altered the continent maps so that they will now serve as an index to the zones. Just click on the map to go to the appropriate zone section.  I will be putting a thought for the day up each day, with an occasional lapse, for your amusement and entertainment.  Well, hopefully you'll be amused and entertained.  If you have a short thought you want to submit, e-mail me.  Eerok has updated his druid guide to level 17.  I also added links to the following sections: High Elf, Magician, Faydwer, Qeynos

April 9, 1999:  Added links to the following sections:  Troll, Druid, Bard.

April 8, 1999:  Some more updates to the zone guides.  The following areas have been updated:  Toxxulia Forest, Blackburrow, Freeport, Western Karana, Qeynos Hills, Qeynos, Feeroot, Ak'Anon, Crushbone, Greater Faydark, Butcherblock, Steamfont.  I have received several requests for information on the creatures of Everquest.  I initially thought about putting together my own beastiary, but the size of the project was too much for one person.  Besides EQ Stratics has already developed an excellent beastiary, so why duplicate efforts.  Instead I have put a link in the main index table to EQ Stratics Beastiary that will open that site into a new window.  While there you can explore the rest of their site, which is one of the best in my opinion.  Enjoy.

April 7, 1999:  Updated the command list to include a few I had missed.  Added a few more tips.  Also, Eerok has sent another update to his growing druid guide.  Added links to the following sections:  Brewing, Lesser Faydark.

April 6, 1999:  I see that they have finally added music to the game.  Can't wait to get home and see how it sounds.  I am in the process of trying to update the zone guides to give more information on what you will find there.  The ones I have updated so far are the ones I have personal knowledge of.  They are:  Black Burrow, East Commonlands, Northern Karana, North Ro, Qeynos Hills, Western Karana, Kerra Island and Toxxulia Forest.  If you can tell me which creatures to expect in any zone along with what camps and other hunting areas are there, please e-mail me the information.  Added a new map of Nektulos Forest sent to me by Andragun.  Hmm, should I be dealing with a dark elf?  I still need more zone maps.  Although the cities are generally well mapped, most hunting areas are still a mystery.  Added a tip on reprogramming your social keys so that you can put /loc right under melee in your hot keys.  Added links to the following areas: Al’Anon, Freeport, Neriak, Kelethin, Felwithe, Grobb, Halas, Kaladim, Clerics, Races, General Classes, Statistics, Beginning Fighting Strategies, General Skills.

April 5, 1999:  Whew a nice weekend of playing the game got me all the way to level 9.  Sony seems to finally be getting the kinks out.  I'd like to thank the hearty group of adventurers who set out with me on the journey from Qeynos to Freeport, especially Sinen and Dhaedelos who died so that the rest of us could make it.  That was just plain fun.  A warning:  the guide on EQ Vault is not quite accurate.  Don't cross the bridge in High Hold.  Updates:  Made some major changes to the body of the player's guide to update some outdated and incorrect information.  Also updated the Erudite Wizard's Guide to change some incorrect information and add more information under level 8.  Added a very nice original map or Qeynos Hills sent to me by Zalbar.  He promises more to come.  Also added a link to a map of Greater Faydark done by WillPower.  Keep those maps coming.  links added to the following sections:  Half Elf, Ranger, Qeynos Hills, Greater Faydark.

April 3, 1999:  EVERQUEST NEEDS MAPS.  I think that's the biggest lack of information out there right now.  If you feel the stirrings of cartography in your soul, make up a good quality map of your favorite zone and send it to me.  I will post it here with your name on it, or if you prefer link to  it on your web site.  If you know of a site with maps that I haven't referenced, please let me know so that everyone going through here can link to it too.    Not many updates this weekend.  Busy with Easter and playing the game.  Added links to the following sections:  Antonica Continent (a nice step by step guide to crossing Antonica from Qeynos to Freeport on EQ Vault), Halfling, Warrior.

April 1, 1999:  Added a new original player's Guide: Eerok's Druid Guide    He has put together a nice guide on playing the druid and promises to keep it updated as he gets even higher in level.   I added links to the excellent maps found on the NotCrazy site.  Doh.  Can't believe I missed this site before.  The best ones are to two travel routes detailing the best route from Qeynos to Freeport.  Check them out.  Also, reorganized the general links section into highly recommended and recommended sites.  All of the sites in that section are good, but I figured some were better than others and deserved to be mentioned as such.  Also added a link under Enchanter to the Words of Enchantment message board which seems to be used frequently and offers good advice on Enchanters and a link under Clerics to The Temple,  site devoted solely to the Cleric Class.  Links were added to the following sections:  Fletching, Wizard, Enchanter, Cleric, Faydwer Continent, Antonica Continent, East Commonlands, Everfrost, High Hold Pass, Misty Thicket, North Ro, West Karana, Butcherblock.
