Just did the quest with a new friend Mosuke (pld 75). He did Spirits Within for about 800 damage which took what looked like 3/4 Polevik HP, after that several more hits from Mosuke, I did about 6 points damage altogether as 41 pld taru hehe.

Just want to give a big thank you to Mosuke. We communicated through macros the whole time. Thank goodness for auto-translate function. Good luck to all you paladins out there!
Yeah....

I did this fight last night, me (40PLD/20WAR) and an LS mate (75RDM/37WHM). We ran to the spawn point, built up TP to 300%. He buffed himself, stoneskin, blink, haste, ice spikes, protect 4, shell 4, and he buffed me as well, protect 4, shell 4. I spawned Polevick and we both did our WS. RDM used Spirits Within and did a whooping 499 damage, I used shining strike and did...35. RDM silenced the elemental and just hammered away at it. He got off another Spirits Within and the fight was over. I took...4 damage I think, maybe. So yeah. Not that hard honestly.

I just did this fight. Me a 42 PLD, a 44 war, a 53 brd and a 55 whm. all lived. no real problems. its quite easy to go low hp as 42 pld but it wasn't hard. i used my 2 hour at a scary point. i couldn't tell if it saved me or helped the whm who finished at low mp. the battle lasted at least 5 mins since i used shield bash and sentinel together twice. Anyway it was first time completed. I'd get a party like mine or better to be safe. And yes it seemed we were all needed to win.
other?

It seems like a good sword, but I've been using the Duel Rapier which gives +10 parry. I know Paladin's parry rating is a C or so, but I figured it'd be best to at least get it up faster.

I just fought this thing as 64WHM/32BLM and it creamed me... It's idiotic that this thing hits for over 165 damage to a 64 whm -.- I died and de-leveled, and am never doing this fight again. EVER! >.>

As of right now I am using Grudge Sword.(Enmity+1)

Now I'm pretty sure ill be using Honor sword just as soon as I kill Polevick, but for now the Grudge has done me right!!
PLD's don't do major dmg, its just a fact. And I know VIT is main stat, but I think a lot of ppl underestimate the importance of ALL stats. If main stat was all that mattered WAR would only have 2...STR/VIT. However all the stats work together to create a character. The Grudge sword has worked well for me, i enjoy using it, and it helps to hold just a little more Aggro. And that(in my opinion)is more important than any +'s to stats. I know i paid AGAIN this month, and you probably did too. So instead of worrying about what someone else says you should have, try having fun instead, after all it is your character.
And I know others will be pissed i suggested just enjoying yourself, so please...bite me guys. I'll have fun and ya'll can argue over who's "right" and who's "an a$$hole".

A good sword for PLD. Started using it at 42 and kept it until 50, when I switched it out for a Tactician Magician's Espadon.

I used this sword until lvl 57 where i started to use gluttony sowrd. i would probaly keep this for any BCNM u never kno when this my come in handy
Hmmm
# Jun 20 2005 at 9:31 AM Rating: Decent
I have had this sword since I was Lvl 42 Pld and still use it at 50 because of its + stats. Still, I cant see myself using it much longer because simply put there are better swords coming up.

So my question is this, is there any reason to keep the sword after I stop using it? Its not like Sam's Mumieto where I will need it later for an upgrade is it? Relic Sword is for that.

You need your AF weapon in order to start your AF armor. After that, its useless unless you go back to do BCNMs or w/e.

A PLD Should only look for VIT thats it nothing else.....ATTack is not how a PLD keeps hate.... Thats how a WAR keeps it.. My PLD is 42 and I can hold 2 SATA Viper Bite and a DRK Soul Eater WS and hate is still mine....Flash and healer yourself... and get VIT to take less DMG, my PLD has +20 VIT and thats with out the AF Sword....You guys need to take time and look thru AH's and check out higher LVL PLD and see whats the most use items..and ask them why they pick that item if you don't understand, but like I said PLD DOES NOT NEED TO KEEP HATE WITH ATTACK...THERES NOW WAY YOU CAN DO IT. if you want to see get the highest dmg sword and don't heal yourself and see how fast u lose hate..PLD=tank needs VIT and some agi thats all. IF you want to be a tank and hold hate with Attack be a WAR with +DEX

This is bull. someone shut this guy up.
Yes VIT is the main component behind Pld. But it is no where by far the only.
CHR helps your provoke
DEX helps u keep hate by hitting it. I recommend this person above goes out and tries to keep hate with a stave like some PLD do at lv51+. Ull notice its a lot harder cus u arent doing as much dmg urself.
If u are using a sword to tank u will also need to invest in HP+ gear once u get spirits within as this will also make tanking easier if you are trying to hold hate off a big Skillchain that doesnt include a thf.

Actually the whole debate about CHR directly affecting hate, or some similar arguements, has not been proven and, i believe, is completely invalid. That being said, you are right that VIT is not the only stat that PLDs should be worrying about, but I personally wear as much +AGI as I can, not replacing gear with +VIT, but adding as much AGI as I can. I find that it make a huge difference, being an elvaan PLD in the jungles, i find that I parry mandies about 2 out of 5 hits, and block nearly every other hit with my sheild. With high my increased AGI and my mountain of VIT (47 at lvl 26) I have actually had to tell thewhm to essentially, not heal me so i can keep my hate up by casting a cure 1 every 6-7 hits. Also, never forget about mnd. Although not the most important stat, increasing it to the point where your cures are at the soft cap will also make a difference, both in keeping hate, and keeping yourself alive. Anyway, sorry for rambling ><, and good luck to all the PLDs out there.
RE: ......VIT PPL
# Mar 23 2005 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent
It is true as said above multiple times that Vit is a PLD's primary goal, but other attributes are extremely important. AGI is also extremely important for using a shield to block hits. CHA for Provoke, and the others as stated. My only gripe is this, if you are using this sword over a Tct. Espedon, get some sense. DMG is important to any tank. PLD's hold hate by using every trick in the book, one of them being curing themselves. Sometimes you will need to realize that if you are not taking enough damage to effectively and consitantly cure yourself, you should probably tone down the VIT. Hey, but if what you are doing is working, stay with it. I know I have had those parties where I just couldn't hold the hate, no matter what I did. If you say that you have never lost the hate from a RNG, you are either lying or have partied with badly equipped RNG's. I do remember several parties where I had to concentrate on cureing the RNG to try to keep hate. Just thought I would give my input, take it or leave it.
Vit IS good
# Feb 06 2005 at 9:41 PM Rating: Default
He's not entirely wrong, nor is he entirely right.

Right now my main focus on gear is VIT, and I've got +36, which puts me right at 86. I take probably between 40-45 on an average hit from a crawler (level 47-49)

I haven't lost hate in an exp party in a long time, and a lot of that is due to my mountain of VIT. I'm being healed less, which makes the exp chains longer, and the mob isn't moving around, which makes /THF's SA easier for WS'es. Granted I haven't grouped with a THF in a long while, but I find holding hate over a ~500 or so Distortion WS unlikely, but not impossible.

I've held hate through loose cannon BLM's and RNG's (granted it was tough), but Cover certainly is there. And all my gear goes +VIT. Afterward I look for Defense, and my one slot that couldn't possibly have VIT or DEF (my second ear) has AGI, which offsets some of the penalty from my Turtle Shield +1.

Since I've had this set up, I've been praised as "invincible", "amazing", and asked "how do you make it hate you so much?" Sure, I cycle through /ja's, also, but a lot of that is not taking damage from my ridiculous VIT. This sword is great, and I'm using it straight through Gluttony Sword.

As for the +CHR argument . . . If you're wearing +CHR or +DEX where you could be wearing +VIT I for one feel you're making a mistake. Enhancing your provoke and accuracy is all well and good, but if you're going to take more damage for the trade off, go with the VIT unless you're consitently losing hate.

My position applies only to exp parties from levels 42 and below, as I have no experience afterward.

# Feb 08 2005 at 12:57 PM Rating: Default
Just wait till you get in a pty with 2 rng and a thf, 2 sidewinders and a sata DE off of a rng and your pld turns into a DD until the fight is over.

Enmity is more important for a pld than anything.
RE: Vit IS good
# Jul 02 2005 at 11:49 AM Rating: Decent
Uhhh... first of all... if THFs are supposed to SATA onto people who need the hate more. If RNGs are using Sidewinder, they don't need to pull hate of the PLD for hate control.

Secondly, two RNGs using Sidewinder is the same as one RNG using Sidewinder. Each person has their own hate level; it's not like 5 people having a tug-of-war with the tank. This is why keeping hate against one RNG is the same as keeping hate against 4 RNGs, and it's not much harder.

Atk is very important because the more you hurt the enemy the more it hates which means higher enmity you which is why i think elvaan are better tanks than galka because elvaan are stronger and do more dmg.

You are all right, but you also want to invest in MP+ items. Curing yourself is one of the best used abilities of PLDs to keep hate, the more MP you have, the more you can keep hate with it. VIT+ items would only decrease the amount of dmg you take from the mob, causing your curing intervals to increase, added with the whm healing you at the same time, you wont be able to cure yourself very often, unless you feel like completely wasting MP. In my opinion, the most important, aside from Enmity itself, is MP

Wow I've never seen so many arguments about pld main purpose, nor have I seen so many arguments where everyone has the right idea they just try put one above the other. A good pld uses thier Vit, Def, Enmity, Mp, Acc, and JA to the best possible use without focusing on one main goal. Sometimes you need that extra enmity, sometimes hate control is no problem but survivng is. You can't gear out to def and end up letting everyone die cause you couldn't keep hate, and you certainly don't wanna load up acc and enmity only to get creamed at the beginning of the battle. Thats why pld is a delicate balance between the two extremes and is often based on the situation at hand.

Funny Story
# Oct 28 2004 at 11:10 PM Rating: Decent
Funny story while fighting the NM elemental:

It was just me (PLD41/WAR20) and my friend (PLD60/WAR30) and we went to do the quest to get this sword for me. Anyway, when we got to the spawn point, we built up our TP and what not. Our plan was that I jump in with a single WS and then step out and help cure my friend. Then we both got hit with Stonega II and I got smacked upside the head and lost over half my HP.

I threw out my Cures whenever needed, and my friend ended up using his 2HR also. It was down to about 25% HP left. Then he said, "RUN!" and he dropped down the hole and lured it away from me. So I ran all the way back to the entrance of Ordelle's Cave. And then I stop to rest. My friend, somewhere on the map, says, "I think I lost it..."

I gain enough HP/MP back while resting and cast a CureIII on myself. Next thing I know, the damn elemental comes out from behind and hits me once. The funny thing is, it ran away after that one hit. So I told my friend and I'm like, "What a pu**y! LOL"

After that, he tells me to meet him back at the NM spawn point. On my way there, he says that it came back for him, so he starts fighting it again. I start curing him again as needed, and after all the weak hits he was giving out, he finally kills it, and I get the Whetstone.

It was pretty funny, cuz the damn thing went through the caves looking for the both of us, and we ended up killing it anyway. Haha!

And my reward: a nice new Honor Sword that I'll be using after I gain my 500 EXP to 42. ^^

I pwned this NM last night with a 56 DRK and 56 whm from my LS

the DRK and I tried it 2 before without whm and died each time with about 1 hit left on the mob..

:(

with the whm we killed it without even going into the yellow.. he isn't that tough, it just takes a while because your hits don't do over 60 damage most of the time..

I love the sword tho! it has to be one of the best looking swords for PLD, and looks awesome combined with the jennat shield..

just wish I could get up 5 lvls magically and dump this jest brig armor..

If this is not the best sword i have used ever.. Idk . I believe any pld lvl 42 to 50 or even higher should be ashamed of them selves. This sword rocks. The Mind +2 and VIT+2 is a good addition comming from a PLD sword. ....

I made my post a waaayyysss back. Made it to Lv62-pushing Lv63 already. Go with the Honor Sword, it has the VIT+2 and, MND+2 (Which can help you cure yourself for more, in-turn creating mroe hate.). I have the Gluttony Sword (+7 VIT), which was well worth the 200k I payed for it. If I see another ******* Paladin wearing STR or, DDX rings... I swear I'm going to report them to a GM for utter-stupidity.

You need a mage around 60 to do this and a healer. Nasty AOE. I had a 41pld my self (nother 41 pld) 60 Blm and 50 Drg. And the the drg and pld died. I got lucky.. I didnt go near the nasty Ele.

For the most part, this mob is not exactly a level 45 mob. Since it is an elemental, it will of course have more defense than most, but when I did it, I have a few level 55's and a few people in the low 60s help me out including 3 blms and a whm and I was a level 42. I must say that if I had a full party of people in the mid to upper 40s I think we could have easily been wiped out. It hits pretty hard and resists physical damage pretty well. My best advice is to get a few high levels to help you out on this one or one really high level character. But it should also be noted that with the party I had it was easily overkill. Good luck with this as it is a nice sword to use until level 50.

im gonna have to agree with switching to honor sword. im an ex-drg so i know a bit about dmg and how i use to love attack + weapons. paladins don't need them at all. i understand more dmg dealing causes more hate, but id rather take
+3 AGI with strider sword or +2 Vit with honor sword any day. Also Flash will keep hate for a fair amount of time if you use it right.
Cent Sword?!
# Aug 27 2004 at 4:22 PM Rating: Default
Why on earth are you people comparing the Honor Sword to the Cent Sword??! Are you broke because I know I got the Bastokan Sword at 34 and the Hunting Sword, I tested both out for "Most Damage Possible," of course the one you guys think won didn't, infact the Bastokan Sword did more damage overall. And also if you would look at the "Attack ; Defense" in equipment you notice the Bastokan Sword gives you more damage.
I only read 3/4's down and decided to post becasue everyone was talking about cent sword -.-
RE: Cent Sword?!
# Sep 07 2004 at 10:48 PM Rating: Decent
As a Galkan you would have high str.. which combined with the +acc of a Bastokan Sword would increase your damage. However a different race with less str might find that a Hunting Sword out damages the Bastokan.
RE: Cent Sword?!
# Sep 13 2004 at 3:29 AM Rating: Decent
Ah, good point! I didn't really think of that. Though I still wouldn't understand how it would out damage if Hunting doesn't have any +Attack but the Bastokan Sword does. -.-
That didn't make much sense but oh well.
The Honor sword is very nice only for a couple levels though. :\

i will probably wear this sword just because it is paladin AF, but i was thinking i have soooo many stinking vit+ items already not to mention that i use steamed/boiled crab, i'm thinking what if i kept the grudge sword for the enmity and skipped the honor sword? has anyone compared the 2? i say this is a more fair comparison considering the lvls and considering that the dmg diff. is only 2
RE: honor sword
# Sep 02 2004 at 9:09 PM Rating: Decent
I'm level 43 pld, with +16 Vit already, and I agree, the Honor sword is nice because its AF, but for partying purposes, anything that keeps the hate wit u is definately worth considering.
Was able to keep hate even with SATA -> Viperbite from a thief....thief was very happy wit the results :)
