The post above is the first I've heard of this. My initial reaction was 'Hey, cool...looks great. Maybe I'll start a character on this server'

Then I saw that this was a pay for service...and the price.

Sorry Alan and Nathan...I can't afford it, and probably wouldn't pay that price if I could. Good luck with it.
    Hmmm...

I agree with many people when I say: We should be getting most of that stuff already. The truth is, we shouldn't have to pay 30 bucks more than we do now just to get a response from GMs once in a while.

The other thing that bothers me is the fact that you can move characters onto the new legends server. In <i>my</i> mind, that ruins the whole point of the Legends Server in the first place. Most people who will move to Legends will be people who bought 8 level 50 characters off Ebay. The majority of the server will probably be higher level characters. That means they will get all the quests first and that leaves just about nothing for those of us who want to experience Legends from start to finish, the whol 60 levels. But that's not really an issue for me, I don't have enuf money to spend on this new "exclusive" server.

And: Am I the only person who thinks the character web pages are more than a little bit laughable? Anyone can teach themselves HTML in a couple of days then take screen shots of their gear and upload it onto their website. Not that hard.

I still don't see why it'll cost so much more. It doesn't seem like they're doing anything new, except for naming items after the first character to find them. But really, who cares? for an extra 30 dollars per month, I can be immortalized in a fantasy world that exists through a network of computers. Put things into perspective!!! I don't see why anyone who <i>could</i> spend that kind of money per month would.

but who cares? <i>We</i> still get the same service we've paid for all along. (it would be nice if they could've post-poned the Legends release and had the Legends team work on fixing Luclin though)

    BS price

Everyone saying $40 is a lot...but thats US$40 there for if i wanted this thing it would be $80 a month....That WAY to high especially when they sayn anyone can join. Thats more than i earn in a week at my age

If they threw in a free cable connection and free food from my favorite chinese restaurant i might do it.

Otherwise i dont even understand why you would even sign up for this.

Also, broken economys are fun in everquest. I always get mad when i see some level 6 running around with one piece of equip worth everything off my level 34. It's nice seeing everyone running around in patchwork and cloth.

Listen I agree that $40 a month is high, but its an *optional* service. You're like me and don't want to pay that/ can't afford it.... big deal. It's just like flying first class, you're still getting the same product but with perks. If you want to flame Verant read Alan's reply to customer quetions. "Think about how much you pay for cable/satellite... how many times are you talking to they're technicians a month." He has a helluva point folks, $10 a month is not outrageous at all.
    RE: Calm Down :P
    # Feb 03 2002 at 2:16 AM Rating: Default
I would have to say that cable/satellite services are charging the extra fees for an immense improvement in service and offerings which the dial up companies never previously offered their customers and could never hope to. Legends is charging more money for a service which the orignal fee was already supposed to cover. The optional web page is the only really new item and you can make that for free from anywhere on the net. That comparison is apples and oranges.

You are missing the point Anon, people are not complaining that $40 a month is too high to pay (well they are but that's not the point), it's that $40 is too high to pay for things we should be getting for $10 a month now! They have all ready put items in the game named after characters (take the 10th Coldain ring quest bonuses for example) and there are all ready guild halls (just non-operationial ones) in some of the city zones. Now when those things were happening, I noticed that Verant didn't go bankrupt from adding those services and not charging an obsence amount of money, so why in the hell are they trying to do it now? Just drop off the web-page service (since people can do that on their own) and implement all the other stuff that doesn't create that much extra bandwith (if you understand bandwith you will notice that none of the *perks* are intensive at all). It's obvious that these things can be developed and added to the game (they did after-all since their is going to be a Legends server), so why don't they do it for those of us that have been subscriber's for over two years and still waiting for these *perks* that were supposed to be in the game all this time. Instead of trying to think of ways to milk more money out of their people, why don't their programmers work on things to *fix* the existing game and keep the $10 subscribers happy and from leaving. Want to know where to start fixing things? Whatever happened to the PoU underneath the Hole? ST is still totally messed up. How about the pathing issues in Luclin zones like Maiden's? What about the trader's forum in the Bazaar that was supposed to be included in the Luclin expansion? Are they fixing these things or even attempting to? The answer is no, and that's because you can't make people pay more money to fix the things that were promised in the first place. Perhaps I should try to see things from Verant's view, but I don't think I could stand castrating myself while dressed in a Barney costume during a Feed-the-children marathon.

    Lag?
    # Feb 02 2002 at 7:10 PM Rating: Decent
Surely if there only gonna be one server wont it get a little overcrowded with 8000 peeps on it? Thatd be a lotta lag. Guess It'll be a Broadband thing. Most servers will only get around 3ooo peeps at peek times im assuming from the time before they pulled the server population from the select screen. Anyway I enjoy EQ and im gonna carry on playing it, it could be worse than it is people have got to remember that this is a big project thats being undertaken, and yes ok there proffesionals and taking money for it but hey microsoft have been around for over 20 years and they still ahvent got it right and people still buy there products. Sure they whinge about but they buy em. Also im sure SOE have were gonna do something like this before but there was a resounding "Oi SONY! NO!" from the community. But anyway i might be wrong but what the hey I wont be signing up for legends but I will be carrying on, on the Seventh Hammer with me mates where the GMs are helpful and all is good! :)

    I dont mind
    # Feb 02 2002 at 6:53 PM Rating: Decent
Well personally i dont think it will affect me all that much. I play on Cazic-Thule and enjoy everquest very much.... when i can get on that is. 9.99 american is 23.somethng when converted to New zealand dollars, with which i can buy about the same amount of stuff that you could buy in USA for $20. So really 40 US is just so far out of my reach as a student its not even close to becoming and issue of whether or not to change servers. And if it was the problems i have trying to get on would mean that it would not be worth it even at $20US anyway. But i also understand where the added cost comes from if they are to play a far more hands on role in this server that means more staff and a higher cost which is passed on to the recipients of those aforesaid benefits, the consumer. I also think though that it should not have character transfers i mean it is a server that is meant to be something new, exciting, and different so why bring OLD characters on to a NEW server. With AB i could understand that was an attempt to get better ping etc for european players and as such character+items transfers was what shouldve been expected. Others have touched on it that on an all new type of server shouldnt there be all new players? Hey you may know the way around but at least there should be way more to do at each lvl with dynamic quests always changing. so to sum it up "I dont mind" why? cause it doesnt effectme in the slightest for those that do wnt to go i wish you the best of luck, and i hope it is worth the cost

    # Feb 03 2002 at 3:34 AM Rating: Default
but wasn't "hands on" supposed to be the approach from the start?
COmmon somone still has to have the old box and manual. Check it our and see what it says, this was all SUPPOSED TO BE HAPPENING SINCE DAY 1.
    Forget these things:
    1.More money per month.
2.The upgrades you had to do for Sol to even think about running it. (even when it didnt work anyhow)
3.Any of the supposed great things your getting from legends.

Think about this, 2 months before Sol was released I fell thru a hole in the world (not the first time this ever happend, even the GM fell in lol). But it was in FIELD OF BONE... The newb area of an expansion that came out well over a year before. Guess what its STILL there, i made an iskar newb to check. (if a GM falling into the hole you fell in doesn't constitute reporting a bug then well thats absurd)

And anyone here seriously thinks that Sol will work "AS INTENDED" in another year? Wake up now is the time to start thinking about selling your high lv on ebay.
    I DO MIND

I also wonder if VI sees something coming. Anyone wonder why they dont let us see the number of players on the server select screen anymore? Frankly, they had their time at the top and now they are planning for the fall. They suck. Good luck to all who pay for this crap.
    RE: Numbers
    # Feb 02 2002 at 11:35 PM Rating: Default
Coincidence that they nerfed this right before the release of Dark Ages of Camelot (and moved up the live date for Firiona Vie to coincide with the DAoC launch)?

    I think not.
The Legends thing is a sad joke - if Verant wants to keep up with the competition they should address the many, many issues that already exist in EQ and add content that is accessible to the entire population. What they are doing here is offering you, the esteemed customer, the opportunity to have a less flawed EQ at 4 times the price of the standard version.

How stupid do they think we are?
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 02 2002 at 6:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I HIGHLY doubt that they are going to improve the CS for 30 more bucks a mont. verant got a little tast of what its like to have a lot of money so NOW they think by promishing s h i t that they already promised in the first place they can get 4 times the amount we are paying now. if you actually WANT to do this your a MORON. . . .
    Dumb
    # Feb 02 2002 at 6:31 PM Rating: Decent
we should be getting half this crap as it is. 40 bucks a month my ****.
    Drop Price
    # Feb 02 2002 at 6:15 PM Rating: Default
They should have bumped the price from $10 to $20 bucks per month vice $40 bucks per month. Or offer a special service at a lower rate for those of us who cant afford $40 a month plus the cost of isp service. I been on since May 1999 too. My biggest problem has never really been the computer so much as it has been the connection. Roughest part about living free in the country is you settle for crappy modem internet which blows and satellite isnt good for gaming because of no pinging which is needed. Who knows?
Ok so i shoul only bend over 1/2 way?
    # Feb 03 2002 at 3:41 AM Rating: Default
if you can afford it or not, isn't this the REAL issue everyone should think about. Is EQ worth anything more than 10$ a month? (in my opinion NO WAY, ill go pay 12$ or whatever for daoc if i had to)

Please dont base this on how much of your life you have wasted sitting in front of your pc playing EQ. Base this on how well the product WORKS, and PLEASES YOU THE CUSTOMER during your play time.
If it was on equal terms I would go.
    # Feb 02 2002 at 5:38 PM Rating: Default
If they deleted the character transfer part of the sign up. I would consider paying to start a noob, with great expectations of a real adventure ahead for the extra cost..

I agree with the post way up above. A fresh server with equal starting terms and quests that function as a means of leveling would make an excellent adventure. One adventure that would be worth the consideration of more money invested in my hobby.

As for better CS, I have had only a few occasions where I /petitioned and each was handled efficiently and professionally. So I would not pay for premium service based on an increase of CS support.

    yeah i said it
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 02 2002 at 5:12 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) yeah that's right stupid i'm playing summoner on ps2./ it's alot more fun and alot more cheap. not to mention you can save your game and do homework or eat dinner every now and then. GAMES should be fun! and maybe a little addictive but nothing like this. if you spend 4 hours just to go up one level there is something wrong with the game. Anybody ever died and then died again........twice just trying to get your corpse? pretty ridiculous. What happens to crackheads? They buy crack for awhile mess their life up then either die or rehibilitate. Maybe verant should have sticked to slinging that green stuff ? maybe? However eq is a great concept but it does have a bunch of ******** running it......and a bunch of **** playing it....but not everyone i think most ppl were just normal subscribers like me(well not anymore lol i cancelled my account...woot!) don't pay for this over rated ********* ooh a new server! so the gameplay still sucks major ***. yet again a brave and noble try verant but you still suck ****! bye eq(players) keep your head up and maybe you'lkl get to lvl 60 in 5 or 10 years.....and then only maybe.
    interesting....
    # Feb 02 2002 at 4:53 PM Rating: Decent
Hmmm...sounds like an effed-over, rebuilt Test Server to me.... Toss in some extras, charge an exorbitant subscription fee, and make an empty promise of better in-game support, and see how many fish Verant hooks....
One would assume that this will get rid of some 8000 eBay fools from the other servers....
    You must be joking?!?

I know not to complain and all, but this is really sad. They should not even think about the future yet, and they need to fix the past, with bugs and all. I say they should just take all servers down for a week, and FIX ALL BUGS!(1 week is ok) Just my thoughts
