ITS GOING TO WORK UNLESS WE ORGANIZE AND I DONT THINK WE CAN
    # Feb 03 2002 at 10:26 AM Rating: Decent
Its good to relieve by sending comments on your websites you have favorites too but I believe that there system will work.

THIS IS WHY EQ LEGENDS WILL BE SUCCESSFUL:

    * There will always be the low 5 to 10% willing to pay $40 to play on EQ.
    * To try something new you will get a good percentage whether they flame EQ or not.
    * Most EQ players are addicts (I AM and NO I WONT PAY $40 UNTIL IM FORCED BY GIVING ME NO OPTIONS BUT PAY $40). Any figure above $40 I wont be able to pay anyway and still skeptical on $40.
    * As long as EQ keeps their game better than others games which I believe they still have (I LOVE EQ even with the bugs, there not that DRASTIC THAT I COULDNT PLAY).

    WHAT CAN HAPPEN:
    * People strike we coordinate together and agree not to play EQ for 2 to 3 months to show we are not going to accept just any storyline without getting the people who are paying SOE, Verant or whomever that we have a input.
    * Newer game systems come out that are better than EQ with better value and less money. Still a while to go.
    * The EQ staff revolt against each other and get strong and STRIKE and resolve this quickly (LMAO and ROFL) YEAAAAH RIGHT!
    * When this starts to take effect people that join Legends decide to quit paying $40/month and return to Regular Servers.

    WHAT I KNOW:
    * Basically this is the EQ that was supposed to be.
    * They can post and advertise all they want that this has nothing to do with support and playibility of the now EQ
    BUT IN REALITY
    - Present EQ will get more expensive and thats soon.
    - EQ performance will DECLINE again because of additions to new servers (LEGENDS), MORE PROBLEMS OF GETTING ON AND PLAYING NORMAL EQ, MORE BUGS.
    - BIGGEST FALSE PROMISES AND LIES.
    - EQ WILL NOT LAST because there will be new game systems that do better and it will just be a couple of years as I predict. (But I will have fun with whatever game system I can.)

    LOYALTY
I am NOT loyal to EQ because: EVEN THOUGH they have a AWESOMELY FUN AND GREAT GAME SYSTEM TO PLAY - - - I WILL STRIKE if given that opportunity to show my frustration that they are not trying to fix the current EQ Servers to include what EQ Legends has.

Heh, try not paying your account fees for three months. You will get your characters deleted. On the surface this sounds like a great way to get a point across, but there are too many ways to pay, and it would be dificult to coordinate. I pay every six months, while others pay every three or month to month.
    My 2 cents
    # Feb 03 2002 at 10:09 AM Rating: Good
Well its fairly obvious (IMHO) why Verant is doing this. Obviously first and foremost it's about money, it always is. But I really think that they're trying their hardest to keep players playing the game. I mean yeah 90% of the people playing haven't hit 60 yet, but take into consideration that perhaps they see 50% of the people playing getting close to hiitiing their lvl caps. What do they do then? How many times can u go to Veeshan's Peak or the Planes for example before you get completely bored? I think this is a lame way of Verant trying to keep those players from leaving. Unfortunately, their planning division needs to get their act together. If they were smart, they would NOT recruit players to be GM's and if they did, they should be paid, so we could actually have some qualified and DECENT service in-game instead of these half assed wanna be's who are only there to assist their friends and guilds in game. Secondly, I would pump some of that $5M they make a month back into the game, ie more hardware more programmers etc, so that they can fix some these bugs that I have to encounter every day. I won't even start with Luclin ,because its been beaten to death in here, but I'll just say Bazaar and horses, (being that horses were only made for the hi-end player). Oh, and by the way, if this Legends crap goes over well and they do get the 8000 guinea pigs to test this out for them, be prepared for more of these servers to go live, and the whole game will eventually be transformed into this. Say bye bye to $10 a month and say hello to $40. It seems Verant has finally realized the physcology of the game, lol, and that people are truly addicted to the game.SO, being the pr!cks that they are, they are doing this to slowly phase out the $10 a month option. Be prepared my friends. And trust me boycotting the Legends option wont make a difference, you know that there are over 8000 a$$holes in the game that would do anything to get the kind of stuff and recognition that they will get in Legends. And for that they'll pay anything..... My 2 cents, please feel free to flame or agree to my post. Take care brothers and sisters.

You have hit the nail totally on the head, this server cannot go live or the ppl that can only afford/ want to pay $10 will have to say bye bye to EQ forever * doesnt want to be one of those ppl, but will be if it comes down to it*

    F that i'll go play Daoc ***** 40 bucks a month for a game i pay 10 for now.
Hell has a better chance of freezing over than me forking over 40$ a month to play a buggy online game. I don't care who makes it, and all those people who need recognition in a FANTASY ONLINE GAME (i stress GAME) need to put that 40$ to some good use and see a shrink.
Look man my junk is 20 pixels LONG and it only cost 40$ im such a man.

We are all suckers if we are going to let them put this server up and running when so much of what they promised with SoL did not happen. Where is the bazzar? Where is the Enchant Luclinlite? I agree with most of the people here that if they can fix all of the broken quests, lag issues, zoning times, people who now drop on almost EVERY zone and have to wait 10 minutes to log back on. Yeah fix all of these on the other servers and then you can develop your UBER server.
    A final disappointment
    # Feb 03 2002 at 9:17 AM Rating: Decent
One of my bosses once told me, "One should never be surprised by what happens in this life, but its alright to be disappointed."

I have been around since the beginning, and in fact was an early contributor to this site, and a silent supporter. I preface this post with this for a reason, I'd like it to be treated seriously. I smile when I read that someone questions, "I thought I quit Ultima Online?" I say to myself, "I thought I quit Gemstone III." They are a smaller earlier rival to today's MMORP's, and one of the first to offer customized service for 40 dollars. With dubvious real value.

My experience with EQ comes with serious fundamental design issues that can and never will be resolved. First, is the "enforced community" that forces you to work with others in order to defeat certain obstacles. Secondly, the time committment in order to get anywhere beyond lions and bears and giant spiders (yes, I'm sure you can jump amazingly levels in one day, but logging 16 hours in one day is not for me). Lastly, is the camping, which speaks for itself. They can never fix these problems, because essentially they don't view them as problems, or are too ingrained in the core concept. You notice SWG moves in different directions however.

You know- I would pay the $40, if I really believed that I would go on 'real quests' and have 'real adventures.' Seriously, I know its a lot of money, but if they really offered me that level of interactivity, I would consider it. However, despite the blurb, I believe the Legends server will be the same "fantasy combat simulation" only with additional content.

In conclusion, not only am I unsure if I want to invest in the Premium service, I think looking at it has made me come to the conclusion that I really don't enjoy the Basic service anymore.

    Thanks for listening,

    Jim
    Good luck

I totaly agree, this "legends" idea has made me really think twice about keeping my account. Even if they drop it now it's too late. They ran up to the bee hive gave it a good wack and now i hope they get stung.

I enjoy EQ as much as everyone else, but the insult of making it a prince vs pauper situation is about as much as I will put up with. Come this time next month im sure some people will move on to something else just out of spite.

Don't support this new server, and i ask all players who read this to SERIOUSLY think about what your getting for your money. If they up start this server without fixing Sol I think we all have our answer, after that it's OUR call.

I personally would rather NOT leave, I just want things to work properly and be a happy little gamer. If EQ remains broken and all this extra GARBAGE they are working on (SG/Legends ect, with OUR monthly FEE) I will quite for good and I hope I'm not the only person to do so.
FIX your game or watch it die, the choice is yours. You have already lost players and or SERIOUSLY offended the rest of us.

The only way that Verant will ever truely listen is if thier pet project falls flat on it's face. Let's take a bit of help from ghandi(sp), and Mr Martin luther King jr. , and boycott Legends server. Spread the word amoungst your guilds and friends. Let's show Verant/Sony we are not cash cows and that we want EQ fixed. I too am tired of all the bugs and broken quests. They say at one time only 25% of all the quests have been done fully. I can tell you why it is only 25%. Simply becuase the other 75% are broken. Let's tell Verant and Sony that we won't stand for this. BOYCOTT Legends.

Heh, you used to read that people would glady pay more for a population limit, and a more dynamic game. This is what they are doing. I'm sure quests that turn out the way the like on the Legends servers will make their way to the general servers - to the benefit of all...
    RE: not bad
    # Feb 03 2002 at 1:25 PM Rating: Decent
Please think about this, they are not gonna charge ppl $40 per month to play on a server, if they are intending to implement the items/quests ..etc.. on the other servers that ppl are only paying $10 per month to play, its never gonna happen. They would lose all the customers from the high end server instantly.
Verant/SOE have intended this server to be a select server and all us other ppl get the shaft.
Dont delude yourselves that this "may" someday happen, its not in their finantial intersest to do something like that, everything on the Legends server will stay on the Legends server, believe me and trust me, i am never wrong =oP
Be interesting to see if it takes off
    # Feb 03 2002 at 8:11 AM Rating: Good
Most of the people playing this game will not have the funds to supply such an addiction. 40 per month is 500 per year... thats more then i personally am prepared to pay and i have plenty of cash to throw around for stuff like this.. I just dont see the point in spending that amount on the provided extras. i dont play this game for the loot or the features so much as the social aspect of the game and having a laugh.. i mean why would i want to spend 500 per year for good cyber loot that is not transferable into real life and for features that do not enhance the social aspect of the game. I am affraid that personnally as your likely target audience (able to afford the enhancements) i am not willing to splash out on something i do not feel enhances the game for me.

Hope this helps you with your marketing strategies.. i am not sure how much you have thought this through.. targeting only 1 to 2% of your audience is a smart idea i can only presume it is a trial for future expansion but in my humble opinion you are making an elite group selecting out the rich from the poor and this is likely to isolate the loyal population of subscribers such as the lady further up that has been playing this game since virtually day one.

This may have seemed like a good idea at the time but seems to be having a negative effect on your general standing with your current custommers

I realise that the price is based on the service but i feel you are pricing out your targeted audience - sorry Verant - i am not sure you got it right this time

Something I just noticed on the Legends website - these 'new' items on the legends server are going to eventually end up on the regular servers as well... The whole website reads like they are putting a polish on the test server and charging more to play on it!

    # Feb 03 2002 at 6:05 AM Rating: Decent
Ok here is my voice to this, I have been playing this game since 1 month after release, have very happily not paid my bills to get the newest expansion, got ripped off by Gateway to get another comp in the house when my boyfriend moved in. And since we now have another comp in the house, well i suppose we now have to buy 2 of all the expansions, but hey i love this game and its cheaper than going out, get a case of beer and sit in front of EQ for a few hours. So now after almost 3 years of playing this game and sending my money to SOE (verant ) they decide they want to ***** the little guys, Most ppl like myself and all the students out there CANT afford the extortionate new fee they are asking for, does this also mean that while they are giving special consideration to all the rich ppl on the new server( cause common ppl, we all know its only the well off that will be on it) is SOE gonna turn into a slumlord, and turn all the other servers into an oline ghetto? think about it, its gonna happen if this new server goes live.Like everyone else is saying SOE before you start eating another cookie, finish the one you started and get SOL fixed, so it works properly and help the ppl that have been paying your bills for the last 3 years, its called loyalty.....you know what that word means?, try looking it up in a dictionary sometime.

    Char Transfer
    # Feb 03 2002 at 4:37 AM Rating: Default
The only thing that seems to me wrong is that they allow the free transfer of you HL chars to the new server. When I got SOL, I made sure I got it ASAP so I could be one of the forerunners of the Vah Shir race (yeah, it's stupid, but it would be cool). Instead, the first time I signed on (remember, this is about 17 hours after SOL went up), I saw a level 2 BL run past with very good equipment. There is no way he could earn this equipment in 2 levels. Then I found that you could go from Luclin to Norrath and VV with incredible ease, which bought the Twinkers instantly. I was hoping I would be on par with the people of Luclin, maybe a few levels under, but they had already gotten incredible items which made the game easy to them. With frustration from the lag already eating at me, I deleted my Vah Shir and went back to my Druid. It would have been neat to be one of the people to discover things, but since level 50+ chars started moving in by the barrelfull, my dreams were shattered. ::sigh:: Now I read this article on "NEW LEGENDS SERVER!" ALL RIGHT! I can discover stuf... Then I read the part about transfer of characters. ^&*%! Now the HL Characters'll just discover all the stuff, and I'll be left in the dust. Oh well, %*&$ it. More dreams shattered. ::sighs and looks for a well to jump into::

    question
    # Feb 03 2002 at 4:20 AM Rating: Decent
I have ben playing this game since about 6 months after release and my wife has been playing since 1 month after release. 1 thing we have always noticed was at least 1 patch a week after the release of an expansion, usualy more, for about 2 months. Yet following the release of SoL we had that for about 3 weeks then we didnt have a patch for 2 or 3 weeks. Now if Luclin were like the other expansions I would just think they had gotten better and henceforth did not need all the patches but we all know better than that dont we?
Now the question was will we be seeing patch messages such as.... Downloading file.. whatever.dll
    Downloading file .... whateverb.dll
    etc.

    Just to see ....
Added updated weapons, armor, and exp bonuses to Legends server !!!

oh and we MAY have fixed that nasty bug that prevents all heals on the other servers

Now IMHO I think if they wanted to add a premium service they shouldnt cater solely to those that can afford. what about those of us that have been here for 2 years+? Do we get any appreciation for our patronage? Be it real or in game? No, instead we get this expansion that I just had to put a second morgage on my home in order to update my computer so I can play in a game where they say "illusions are broken at the moment but should be fixed with next patch." Wich will be who knows when? Now dont get me wrong I will live with the bugs and I STILL believe that EQ is an incredible game and by far outdoing anything else on the market. However if VI or SOE or whoever decides to jack up my prices with promises you will sadly (at least on my behalf) be losing an otherwise happy customer.

Promises are empty unless followed by truth.

Where to start on this. Hmm, Lets see, I could say GM this GM that, but I wont, and I could say broken quest, fix this, fix that, but I wont. Instead, Ill focus on the real issue. All that this seems to me is that its going to be a more " Resourced " server. Gm's making events, more quests, and the chance to have loot named after ya. Hmm, so here goes the flaming.

Before you get so strewn out over another project I will put this into perspective. Is the same stuff from EQ getting boring, Yes it is. Was anyone else disappointed with SoL? Yes, some of the zones were laid out well, some of the quests ( RoF, Caller Quest ) are diffrent rather than kill mob A, get loot from mob a, give to mob B to **** him off, kill mob b etc etc etc....

A few simple Idea's that SoE is missing. The game is fun when there is new levels, new requirements, and new standards. Was I impressed with Kunark? Yes I was. Was I impressed with SoV release? Yes I was. Am I impressed with SoL. Nope. A Few Major diffrences so far from what I noticed.
--Kunark release, the start of your epic quests, Clickable effect armour, and level enhancement.
--Scars of Vel, 3 diffrent factions to work to obtain armour that is better than what was released in kunark ( compared to class specific). Long quests that are very rewarding and difficult (aka ring , Shawl). Release of 2 new planes.
--SoL, New Graphics, Horses, Enhanced skill tree for unique options. New Race and New Class.

When kunark came out it was great, a long drawn out quest that would weild this great weapon that was class specific. Also the armour, Drool, Anyone else remember Donals before the nerf? Again, New and exciting. Lets move up the time frame a bit, my point is coming. So SoL comes out, and everything is new and exciting again. New cities, but now you have to watch what you kill. New armour, that has to be quested, and most have clickable effects. Wow, this is great! And there isnt just one! There is 3 diffrent sets! Time passes.........

Shadows of luclin comes out. I am excited to all holy hell. Log on, New graphics look great. Wow, I can customize my character Cool! Wow, alot of lag../shrug, nothing new with expansions. Start to explore. Nice dungeon. Cool quest concept. Time Passes....

Hmm. So far alot of broken quests. Also alot of really screwed pathing. You call that a safe point in the zone! No new planes, /bleh. Hello beastlord_2031 twink. No new set area's that are complete /rude vexthal. Hmmm.

Well, To put it on a final note. Why is EQ successful? Because with the expansions that you came out with were superior to the old. They showed progression through Items, quests, and difficulty. With SoL I am really not seeing the pattern. I know there are difficult mobs, and difficult zones that I have not fully explored yet, but Also going back to contrast there consistancy that made the game favorable and fun during the last 2 expansions seemed to get lost somewhere in the involement of redoing the graphics and adding a new race. Why did they do it? Everyone and there sister has seen What DoAC has to offer for graphics, and what SG is going to offer, so imo they put together this 3 cd booster package to be just like a gigantic patch and added a few zones with imo so far a bunch of lame quests. Imo, a very botched expansion. The only thing that could make this expansion worth while is the secrets that vex thal has, have yet to explore. But after it is explored will I cancel my account. /shrug, probally until the next expansion comes out or SW galaxies comes and I cancel my account all together

Wish they would hav esaid if this was going to be PVP or just another Blue server, since they didnt state on can asume that its a blue, which is understandable with how much they want to get done. Another thing is server events. They are saying that they are going to be getting weapons and armor that has never been in the game before, isnt that going to make them like gods against all other servers in the Server Events, no one would stand a chance agaisnt them, kinda makes it unfair if you ask me.

This Legends thing is little more lithmus test driven by SOE's marketing department. With Star Wars waiting in the wings they need to see how much money the market will tolerate, where is the break point for profits.
As stated by all the people above FIX THE DAMN BUGS FIRST.
I read Alans post about how this new "Legends Team" has nothing to do with the Live team. PLEASE. You have a finite amount of people working for you and instead of hiring more to help fix the current problems you break off x number of them to work on Legends. All paid for by us. I hope this venture fails miserably or else we could all see higher fees in the future on new products.

Here's a thought. Granted, I understand that some of the things Verant is proposing for the "Legends" servers should already be in the game, but it isn't so I'm going along with the scam here.

If they really want to do this, why not offer graduated price service packages. If you want to just play on the new servers and have access to the items/quests, then you pay $20 a month. If you want all the extra web stuff (web space actually isn't free, after all), then you pay $40 a month. I'd bet money that most of the people who will be going to the new servers a) already have their characters up on Magelo or their own websites, or b) don't really care. I'd be surprised if they even get 10% of the "Legends" players to actually use that web crap. I mean...seriously...do you need a whole damn webpage just to tell you where you are??? It's called /charinfo...hotkey it.

About the personal GM thing, My lvl 14 enchanter died and this happened when they came out with the patch that "Broke" the game. I couldnt get on EQ for no longer than 10 minutes without going LD and my body otted and i lost all of her stuff, including a Stein of Moggok, a Water Crystal Staff, a Blackened Crystalline Robe, 300pp, Raw Silk armor, and some jewelry and other miscellaneous stuff i had on my character. Well, that happened about 2 months ago, and the other night i got on, petitioned like i had been for the last 2 months(i have a life betond EQ, i cant wait 5 hours just to get a character back, i actually did one night and they never got to my petition) and a guide told me that the queue was empty so about an hour later the Tholuxe Paells GM sent me a tell and then told me after a month they cannot detect any saves...and i was liek WTF?!? i almost chewed him out because i had waited for that long, for basiccally a slap in the face saying that i was stupid because i waited so long to petition, and before i could take another breath, he said he moved on to the next petition....MAN I AM PISSED! I want all of that stuff back so bad! And only some of it belonged to me, do you know how hard it is to tell your friend you lost your stuff that they gave you? stuff they worked hard for? i know it is thier fault that they loaned it to you, and took the risk of you loosing it, but it was SOE, or Verant, who the hell ever's fault and i want my stuff back, and i am so mad, i do not want to play EQ, but when you play for so long, you get attached to it, and it is hard to give up.So the whole point of this is, How in the hell are they going to distribute peronal GM's to everyone? there are thousands of peopel that play this game and i wouldnt trust one if i had my personal GM, i may not be understanding all of this, but you do notneed help all the time...so what will your personal GM be doing when you do not need them? probably helping someoen else, and when you do need thier help, and they are helping someone else....what would be the point? hmmm...lets see, anohter $40 down the hole?

Listen to me as I tell you a story that was once great and full of life, one of great adventure.. The days had come and Everquest had just been shipped, the game was full of new adventurers waiting for that great slay! That new lowbee weapon, that awesome piece of bronze. However, these days... What has happened? One, they broke the game when Luclin came out! They never fixed it and they're already thinking about starting something new? FIX ALL THE DAMN BUGS FIRST! They're making the came rediculously ludicrous and too buggy to play at some points. A lot of bard songs don't work or bug up, enchanter illusions don't work, and that's just the beginning. There's so many other things that aren't working and items that are meant to do one thing and are bugged or "not finished". You figure 400,000+ people * 10/month ='s a lot of money to fix all those things quickly. However, SOE bought Verant, and you can already tell the game is going downhill. They're there to rake in the big bux, really quick, and they dont' care about anything else. Get it straight, World of Warcraft is coming out in a year or so...forget about EQ, it's a dead dinosaur! Until you get "The Amazing **** Sucking Hotties With F-size ******* Who Go Down On You WHILE YOU PLAY!" option, count me out!

I don't know if anyone knows the term, but all I can say is: "Munchkin."

They are trying to take advantage of the brute stupidity of people, and for this gamer, its definately not going to work, $40 to have a personal GM? Thats what they make it sound like, but seriously, how long does it take to get a response on a server with 3000 people, much less 8000, given that all 8000 won't be on at once, but its the same concept that the delay will most likely be the same, if not more. Save your $40 for DAOC, but steer clear of Anarchy Online... it sucks, IMHO.
