Lore: Report from the Wilds #6

As found on EQLive: ==================================== Report from the Wilds #6 An article Submitted to the Felwithian Sub-council of Knowledge for approval. The War of Antonica Steel boots tear into the earth of the Karanas. A blood-red cloud of dust rises over the desert of Ro. From as far away as Qeynos and the High Keep, we can feel the stomping march of Ykesha's army. Scouts and spies watch the armies as they progress across the lands; one army to the east and one to the west. They see sharp blades in the leather gauntlets of grim and fierce trolls, dark elves, and ogres. They see a shadow on the rocks silhouetted against a burning sky holding a curved blade high. The warlord, Ykesha, shouts orders as he did two thousand years ago. He shouts of blood and vengeance. Militias mobilize while citizens flee into the walls of their cities. One by one the cities of Freeport and Rivervale and High Pass sigh in relief as the dark armies cross their doorstep but turn south to the wetlands of Antonica. They turn to Gukta. An old farmhand of Antonica, separated from the news of the lands, watched in horror as the army marched across his farms. While he and his family hid in a moldy cellar, the armies tore up his crops with their barbed boots. He saw their gauntleted hands gripping the thick handles of wide double-bladed axes. He saw their sharpened teeth gritting in anticipation of war. He knew what would happen to his family if they saw him. He sighed with relief when they had crossed the river to South Karana. Many Norrathians build up a vision of the troll armies in their heads. They see large masses of tall and powerful trolls fighting in lines against steel-armored warriors and paladins of the cities of light. They do not see the details. They don't see those wide-bladed axes cleaving through plates of steel and into flesh and bone. They don't see young men dying of infected wounds under the burning heat of Ro. They don't see the starvation, looting, and disease of the cities left to die in the wake of such an army. Felwithe does not see this. We saw our own men dying in Greater Faydark under the rusted blades and axes of Crushbone. Now we read of the wars to the west in the comfort of our homes. Outside, legions of our guards stand watch in shining steel. We wish there were something we could do to help, but we will not send our troops across the Ocean of Tears to help defend those who need it. Gukta may soon be stomped into the ground with every living Guktan murdered in their streets. The brothers of Marr will fall under the iron gauntlet of Ykesha. Armies of barbarian mercenaries will be cut down defending a people they do not know while we discuss the war with our friends and drink our sweet wine. We must mobilize. We must call upon our generals to mobilize and travel across the seas. We must defend our allies and ourselves from the armies of Ykesha. We must not sit back and read of Ykesha's victory over Antonica while we sit behind our walls and hope it will go away. It is time for the colors of Tunare to once again march across Antonica. - Aluvin Windwhisperer, The Royal Herald Minister's Note: The preceding article is marked as deceptive, hostile, non-compliant, disruptive, aggravating, and contrary to the words of our king and the council of Felwithe. nice ring ... but what if you dont believe in tunare ... i mean she's a lesser god in the recent turn of events aka PoP (though she's been around since Scars of Velious.) what if you killed tunare ohh say like 3 to 5 times, but worked out the whole faction thing so that 99% of the elves love you (good ones that is) or that you worship another diety... is tunare's forces consider you for smiting practice or automatically consider you for evil ???

i sorta thing the whole tunare thing is taking it a bit to far though i might be wrong (and prolly am)

okay nice tactic ... but if you read up on the lore for EQ2... this is the beginning of the war that is 500 years in the past for people playing in EQ2.

bah it is history that is 500 years old, does not mean the history is right. peopel can't get history right from wwI ww II korea and that was only 40 to 70 years ago. Kill them all.

Im a bit confused, this report talks about Ykesha's armies marching through the karanas, for the last 2 days I have scouted the karanas, and found nothing but filthy barbarians, who have been set up for a while, South Karana should be next, although there is a force of troll/ogres/DEs in rathe mountains(someone said they fought here already). So how long does it take in between events?

Edit: Oh, found out <Hate> killed Warlord Ykesha, PLEASE tell me this wont stop the advancement of Ykesha's troops??? I WANT LOOTS STILL!! *wimpers*

Ninjas suck

Why not get off your *** and go kill stuff yourself instead of "fishing" for things you can ninja? My guild did Feerrott and had 3 items stolen (one was a named that wandered off at 5% health while we were fighting the adds and 2 other nameds so thats our fault). The other 2 were shields that dropped and were ninjaed by people sneaking around. One was a 70 pally who happened to be there naked and jumped on the corpse as the locker released for the winner to loot. These are the same people that begged their way through eq cause they were too damn lazy to do anything themselves.I might add for all you lurking ninjas that if people know what to do YOU WILL NOT GET TO KEEP THE PIECE ANYWAYS! If people /report and petition immediately GMs will return the item to the proper owner and you will be disciplined we got both shields the next day.

Three of my friends and I (Paladin, Ranger, Bard, and Cleric) zoned into Rathe to help the barbarians. Our main troubles were actually caused by severe lag. I died twice due to not being able to even turn around in time to face DE's that attacked me from the back (the cowards!). We had hoped to stay longer for at least the role-playing value but the lag issues prevented that.
I wish there were more role-playing type parts available to all levels of folks.
Loot

I wished they would put lore tokens on the bodys as loot and after a war phase the tokens can be turned in for class specific items.

Band Together
# Jul 27 2005 at 10:15 PM Rating: Decent
Hmm..wouldn't it be easier if every race would just band together and kill of Ykesha and all them? Everybody seems to hate Dark Elves, Ogres and Trolls, so they should take that peice of common and put themselves together and fight.

I like that quote tho...

Really? Go to Rathe Mountains or Feerrot... Well don't go... you will die and die quickly.

When the war was only in Rathe, it was ok for this little DE necro to enter using the Feerrot side. If you were a goody-goody, your butt entered through Lake Rathe. I went there last night. Zoned into Feerrot, was confused to see a guildie lying at the base of the book. Saw some flying "birds" that were on fire who see through invis and conned red and ready to attack. Shortly after rezzing him I was attacked by a froglok wizzy which killed my pet as I lay FD (BTW, he was very red to my lvl 63 toon - he looked like a regular froglok, not the wide mouthed mobs you see in Guk). The throng of people around me killed him off. I made the mistake of getting up. Soon a bunch of trolls and such came by (I am amiable to the DEs and Trolls taking part in the war in Rathe Mountains so I didn't realize I was in mortal danger), but I guess each area has it's own faction... Long story short... one smushed DE.

always the elves, jeeze at least the barbs tried, but where are the humans the doefs, the gnomes. United forces of Good and while the forces of evil attck a bloody swamp lets invade thier strong hold of the dark elves and move the frogs there and let the dark elves and trolls move into the swamp. Attack while thier armies are away. Use our knowledge of the higher planes and druid portals and seige thier city this will either gain us thier city or force them to withdraw from the swamp.

I want to release my low level rogue to loot the spoils of war. That would be great fun to sneak around the battle fields and loot the fallen warriors...regardless of race or class. After all that is the joy of war for a rogue, is it not?

if they die than its all the reason somebody else got the loot.

My point is more the idea of dozens of NPC Frogloks battling a few dozen NPC Trolls. The battle is fierce, death toll rises as the battle shift locations based on advances and retreats. The combatants not having time to loot as they are pursued and pursuing their enemies, leave the spoil of war rotting in the fields.

After all with my rogue only at lv11, how else can I enjoy these current events in Antonica? My main, a ranger, at lv 42, can do little more then watch the tides of war. Why? These armies are lacking in common foot soldiers, but are full rank comprised of warriors that make the Gods themselves shrink with fear. Why battle over swampland when the heavens are in reach?

Let the harvest moon shine down.

i understand roleplaying the rogue is fun, but if you go into the battlefield and loot, you are now longer a rgoue, but a ninja looter... and people will hate you forever

If someone left a corpse there long enough for it to become lootable by someone who didn't kill it, they probably didn't want what was on it very much in the first place.

An abandoned corpse is one thing. Totally different are the hordes of soulless jerks who walk into the middle of a raid and try to steal their hard-earned drops. I'd love to see an automatic death touch on anyone attempting to loot a corpse from outside the raid who killed it....

thats not true a lot of times people died before they can loot and they are running back to get it and someone loots it before they can.

Maybe the person who looted it didn't know someone was still wanting to loot it? according to the definition i know as "ninja looting" its when your in a group or raid, and without someone's permission you loot the corpse and either /ex out or gate.

It's only ninja looting if you knew or should have known it was someone else's loot.

If there is noone around it and the timer is in open loot then you should go for it. Especially in this war when the captians will leave a corpse with loot even if no player ever touched it or even if no one is in the zone. How would you know that it was a player kill instead of a war kill?

If it is near someone or a grp I use this policy: I check the corpse and if there is something useful to me or mate on it I send a tell to the people nearby asking if the corpse is their's or not. I do not leave loot mode while waitng to find out so that if it is available I can get it instead of some else who comes along while I am typing. If those players say it is theirs, then I do not loot it. I offer to park on it and to hold it until they or the incoming friend are ready to loot. This way if something drops later that they do not want then I am in good standing and might get a tell.

As for Raid Guilds being upset about anguish level gear dropping, they should not be. These drops are rare and at most someone will get 3 anguish level gear drops if they are very lucky, most likely just 1 or even none like me after 40+ kills. They have the organization to get a complete set of this type of gear for all 22 slots! Plus Anguish dmg augs, and other benefits etc. In addition SoE put these types of drops on htese mobs so that anguish level raid guild would participate in the war. Some of them are participating nicely on my sever. I saw at least two high level guilds with raids chain pulling captains in ferrott and I am sure they got decent loot over time without all the deaths others paid for the gear with, plus only these guild would be able to kill the generals imho when they become killable.
