Lore: Report From the Wilds #2

As on EQLive: =================================== Report from the Wilds #2 * The following is found on a note of tanned vellum written in black ink in small economic handwriting * High Priest Yeolarn of Tunare, Though unable to defeat Ithiasor, the black dragon of the Swamp, I learned that others had faced and defeated this great wyrm. I was correct in my assumptions of this Veslin Savok. It appears he was an agent or mercenary of the trolls of Grobb. Veslin accepted this chest from the proud slayers of Ithiasor and promptly delivered it to the troll instigators of Grobb. Our Felwithian spies are not the only ones in search of information. Froglok agents of Gukta also watch the shadows to protect their new and unstable city. One of these agents sought adventurers to recover this chest from the trolls of Neriak; no easy task. I accepted. I traveled through the dark forest of Nektulos to the doors of Neriak itself. The Tier'Dal Dragoons have grown weak in recent days and I was able to easily dispatch them. I used to question such actions but in this age of war, such actions come easy. I met with five fellow adventurers, old friends I have hunted with in the far lands. Canerit the monk, Lord Garmok the Warlord, Yridian the Vah Shir Beastlord, Amril the elven warrior, and Kanadrix the mage. Amril was critical in learning of the Guktan spies and acquiring the layout of the troll stronghold inside Neriak. We took little time in our small but powerful attack. My companions, experienced in battle against the Muramite legions and demons of the lower planes, took little time in cutting down the guards of Neriak's foreign quarter. We traveled quickly to the south into the slums of the trolls. It was there we realized how powerful these troll usurpers had become. They fought with a fury never seen within the walls of Neriak. They fought with strange weapons, some not seen in thousands of years. The weapons and magics contained within that ancient chest were powerful indeed. The blades of the trolls cut deep. Three times the trolls sent us running back into the forests of Neriak. Our fourth attack, however, delivered our victory. Using chaos as our own weapon, we managed to separate the overlord of the troll resistance, Warlord Bortar, from his advisor and personal guard. We battled him at the gates of Neriak. Even alone the warlord fought like ten men. Bortar smashed Garmok, an ogre of nearly five hundred stone, against the ebony walls. He cut deep gashes into the stone floor with his enchanted axe. Only with our combined strength did the warlord fall. Garmok's runed blade spilled black blood from a deep wound in Bortar's side. We returned the chest to a Froglok conspirator outside of Neriak and received little more than a word of thanks for our efforts. The spy network of Guktan keeps its lips as sealed as our own. I do not know if the slaying of Warlord Bortar will prevent the troll uprising. A people can only be repressed for so long before they grow strong and vindictive. I will continue my search for information and continue my actions towards the safety of Felwithe. Many others have joined in our cause. While it is my greatest hope that the council of Felwithe will see to the defense of our city, I will not depend on it. The mercenaries and adventurers of Felwithe have saved us before, once again they are our greatest hope. Loral Ciriclight Hand and Eye of Tunare Seventh day of the Month of the Harvest Moon, 3202 PD.

The game caters purely to the high end crowd now. It's pretty clear that there are very few (if ANY) truly new players joining EQ anymore. So with the tutorial keeping the actual noobs out of the way, SoE can and will drop uber level content everywhere it can to keep from losing more and more players who have 'done it all' and are tired of EQ.

Every expansion since Velious (excluding LDoN) has been aimed right at level 60+. Once killing gods became trivial, they started inventing new dimensions with creatures that are even stronger. Unfortunately, EQ is reaching critical mass. The game is so top-heavy that it's just getting pointless to even start a new character, let alone join EQ for the first time. So you can bet SoE didn't hesitate when panicked sales managers demanded they do something to keep from losing more subscribers. They simply started making interesting new additions into old-world 'low level' zones to cater to the uber crowd. Some old world zones were completely revamped and built around uber characters. Mistmoore or Splitpaw anyone? There is no reason to doubt this trend will continue.

I won't say this is either right or wrong. It is a simple fact. It is so easy for veterans to level up to 60+ that low level zones are primarly deserted wastelands unless they are starting zones or hotspots like the paludal caverns. Many of these older areas are also ridiculously difficult to reach. High Keep comes to mind.

The bottom line is that the vast majority of paying customers are level 60+ in this game now, and SoE is going to do anything they can to keep them interested in the game so that huge revenue stream doesn't diminish further. Right or wrong, you can believe SoE is going to be 'improving' many more old zones in the game without apology or regret. Low level characters will just have to fend for themselves and 'oopsie' if they get stomped by a new mob appearing out of nowhere. Remember, it's all about the money.

Yeah, I would suggest moving on to another game other than EQ after this comment.

WTB Info on the raid event in Inithule swamp.. This forum is about the Letter from the NPC mentioned in the letter at the top. That is the High Elf in Inithule swamp as you zone in from the PoK book. From what I learned the Frog and Priest start out thinking thier allies fighting against Dark Elves and trolls. The priest wants to clean the swamp of some monster or presence (whatever). But the froglok isn't keen to the idea and wants to talk to his elders in his home town first. When you walk up and hail the priest then say "I will help" the priest starts a cerimony event even though the frog don't want him too. The frog runs to his town and gets friends to stop it. From what I know you and your raid force is supposed to stop the frogs from interfeering the cerimony. We haven't been able to get past the 5th wave, but I suspect from what I've read on the clues SoE put out the Elves summon a Undead Troll and it will eat the frogs. No clue if your raid force will have to take on the summoned mob then or not, but in reality the Elves are on the evil side of things. I want to know if anyone has won this event and if so what did they do to win and what was the rewards. Please Real strat is requested not Rants or whining

1. INNOTHULE not "Inithule" noob. Don't try to pass it off like it is some swishy slang either.

2. Do some research and contribute something.
* WTB has such a e-bay ring to it *

3. Oh B.T.W. your post is exactly what you tell others not to do in your last line. What Up With That ?

Yes I call this a post that ******** "this forum is about ..... blah blah blah" and ends with ..." I want... blah blah blah. Please Real Strat is requested not Rants or whining."

Sorry Amigo but I call them like I see them and that gives you STRIKE THREE ! YOURRRRRR OUT A HERE !

Whatever punk. Your post is **** compared to mine. Mine at least gave some info on a quest that is not posted anywhere else (I did try to research). I'm not even sure why I'm replying to your waste of space of a post. You only made it to stir up ****. Go back to the bazaar and resell.

Evolutia and their app guild completed the event on Stromm yesterday, I've already submitted a write-up to Allakhazam.

What happens is: You hail the priest, follow the dialouge, he leads you to a place SW of the PoK book in Innothule Swamp, where four priests of Tunare await him. They cast, you fight froggies (Mezzable, slowable, snarable, dunno if they come with a faction hit) You goal is to taunt them off of the casting priests and kill them. Simple as that. They don't hit too hard, but there are casters. Essentially any class that frogs can be, you'll fight.

After the frogs stop coming and the priests have completed their casting... Well, sit back and enjoy the show, I'm not about to spoil it for you. :)

I'm not sure, but they seem to be at least indifferent. I was in E.Commons with a dark elf, and he was able to get right next to one group of 12 without being aggroed. He didn't have a chance to try to hail them, some unlucky soul happened by and the group took off after him, which in turn pulled every other group on the east side into the chase. By the time the guy zoned, there were over 20 of the elves on his trail.

Of course, I am not guaranteeing that if a player dark elf walks up to a group he won't be cut down in his tracks, again, we never got that far in our test...but initial reports seem to lean in that direction....do it at your own risk.

See alot of folks talking about how this sucks and they can't participate and so on and so forth...

I am a lvl 54 Ranger, and I, for one, am in the middle of it and its great! I'm not fighting, rangers are reconnaissance...but I'm doing what I do best. I am out there in the shadows, watching, observing, counting, reporting, reporting all that I find to my guild and letting those who can fight outright know exactly what they are up against.

Can I participate at level 54? Hell yes! Its a rush to be 3 steps behind the Neriak as they patrol the E.Commons, measuring each patrols route, watching, figuring out where the soft spots are without them knowing I am there...because I know this will help lead to their defeat when those with the power get my info and come in and destroy them all...and to know that one false step will mean instant death...heh heh.

Stop worrying about the little things, do what you can for the cause...unless of course you don't live by the motto...

No guts, no glory Gungha Din!

Isn't this what the game is all about?

Yep third attempt we had 5 groups of avg lvl 70 and well balanced classes and still wiped. The adds just keep coming and coming. We got to like the 5th wave but had about 2 waves mezz parked cause dps WAS TOO SLOW. I'm thinking maybee kitting is the key, and let the priests finish the summon, but have yet to get it done. Please post your experiences too. (YES they do hit that hard, but I'm used to it)
Oh come on...

Try Kunark and luclin. Or velious and ldon. What about loy? With these expansions, not only can you level from 1 to 65, but the experience is considerably better than old world eq.

I am a returning player starting over. These tier'dal scouts were killing the guards, merchants and any noob (like me) in their way. I did not know about them and I died 15 to 20 times and lost a level and a half before I was able to gather my gear and zone to PoK. These things hit for 400 to 600 and agro to anything it seems.
