Aside from popping by for this post, I was out yesterday evening and missed the outages. Around 9:30am ET today I saw the EQ2 twitter state that all games appear to be back up and running.

What happened, as described below, was DDoS attacks. Smed mentioned them here. EQ2Wire did a nice summary of everything that snowballed up into the attacks here and here (longer explanation), and Smed went to reddit to vent yesterday as well.

I'll keep my eye out in case things go down again today for EQ/EQ2 so I can let y'all know sooner, but hopefully they have it under control now.

Launhpad not hacked, it's a DNS attack

I read that some sort of DNS type attack started today. The story is remarks by our CEO inspired hackers to attempt to bring down EQ and other Day Break games. Seems a bit insane but that's the story I read. I can't even get on my horse in less then 3 minutes. I suppose I can try and learn some languages or something - if a nasty critter doesn't wander by - oh, EQ lost line, I guess that's it for tonight.

My bad, it's not called DNS, instead it's (I read) a Denial of Service attack (DDoS). A DNS attack would be real bad I think.

i know having this site the way it used to be seems like it's gonna be a dying cause, but it's nice to have these updates. thank you

not having EQ zam like it was feels so empty. it's like EQ is the bread for a sandwich, and there's nothing between the pieces

also, is anyone else having problems with the launchpad? i can't get into EQ. it's just black. it reminds me a lot of when sony was hacked awhile back. eek

Black Screen of Death!

Yes, I'm having the same problem. Yesterday was fine. Today can't log in. It runs a patch for the patcher, then acts like it can't actually open it. It won't show up in my programs so I can't even close the window unless I completely restart my computer. Very frustrating. And I can't find any information about what's happening or how to fix it. =/
