Ok I have GOOD news for those of you that are having the "black box" problem... I have an older computer myself, and like you I wasn't too happy with verant when I went out and bought SoL and realized I couldnt even play due to these Black boxes from hell lol! Anyways, last nite i was booted to desktop and when i logged back on I was patched with, yet another, DX 8 file.. but the boxes are GONE!!! WOOT! I wish you all luck :))

EQ Scheduled Patch
Scheduled patch notice as follows:
On Thursday December 6th, at 3AM PST, (11AM GMT), all servers will be brought down for a scheduled patch. The estimated downtime is 4 hours.

They have said in the scrolling message in EQ chat that the black box problem and a few other problems will be fixed with this patch. Please post and let us know if your problem gets solved with this patch.
Also a small note:
If you are having locking up and link death issues, my suggestion is after the DX8.1 is installed, re-install your video and sound card drivers. DX8 changes a few things and you need the specific items that your special drivers do for your cards.
