International Release of Luclin Delayed

It seems that the release of Luclin to Europe, Asia and Australia is not going to be at the same time as to the United States and Canada, as originally promised. I just hope you guys didn't take time off of work hoping to play the game this week. Here is the press release from Ubisoft. EVERQUEST®: THE SHADOWS OF LUCLIN™ Release in Europe, Japan and Australia to follow release in USA 30 November 2001 - Ubi Soft Entertainment, a global leader in the field of interactive entertainment announced today the confirmed release dates for the third EverQuestÒ expansion - EverQuest: The Shadows of Luclin™. For Germany and Japan release will be from 6th December 2001. The United Kingdom and Scandinavia will follow on the 7th of December. France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands and Australia will release no later than the 13th December. Release in the USA remains set at 4th December 2001. Ubi Soft understands the global nature of playing a massively multiplayer game such as EverQuest, and how different release dates may well be the source of upset for players of the game. It is for this reason that Ubi Soft whole-heartedly apologies to the many fans of the game, both that the release date will not be simultaneous with the USA and for the incorrect European and World-wide release dates previously communicated. The actual reason for the delay following the USA release, is due primarily to the different weekday release of new titles, but also in part to the longer manufacturing and distribution processes that generally exist for Europe and the rest of the world. Overall, it is of key importance that Ubi Soft can guarantee that the game’s distribution is as uniform and smooth across all territories as is possible. EverQuest is the singular most popular and successful massively multiplayer RPG in the world. In excess of 400,000 subscribers and dedicated fans have helped establish the critically acclaimed EverQuest as ‘the’ defining online game in its genre. This dedication has not gone unheeded, with the developers constantly fine-tuning the game, round-the-clock customer support and the playing world itself being extended with expansion packs The Ruins of Kunark and The Scars of Velious already available. EverQuest continues to evolve, and as it does it is moving from strength to strength in providing a unique online gaming experience. With the introduction earlier this month of the first dedicated European Server in London, UK and the implementation of an automated translation system later this year, commitment to the global enjoyment of EverQuest fans worldwide is absolute. The Shadows of Luclin will see a further evolution in the EverQuest experience. Not only will a whole new area be introduced for exploration and adventure, but the expansion will also add major graphical improvements to the entire series reaffirming it as a visual online gaming gem. Fans in Europe and across the world – we ask you…please be patient

I'm no rocket scientist but couldnt the software have been released like a week earlier than the servers going live, thus giving Sony/Verant time to ship product worldwide, And make the "release Date" just the actual Date/time that the servers became Luclin Live.

still I get to join the pissed off Brit club

No Broadband no Luclin ;p

This really sucks. I preorder my copy so that as soon as the servers come back up I can sweep in to explore the new zones with the rest of my guild (who are in America) but no, New Zealand won't have it for another 10 days if I'm lucky so sweet. By the time I get there all I'll find are Duids camping all the new mobs for the new items or I'll have seen them being auctioned off or being used by newbs in Gfay. Thanks Verant.
unhappy I am

Does this imply that the "rest of the world" are going to have to wait for the patch to start too
Verant does seem to decide that 400000 people is enough and isnt seeking more suckers outside the US ones that would play at low times for the US
Ah Its good to see colonialism alive and well

Lies

Frankly I don't believe Ubisoft/Verant. In this modern world of production lines, global communication and air freight there can be no justification for a week long delay in release.

ID4 was set for world-wide release on July 4th. Then an American twigged that it's July 4th in the rest of the world *before* it is July 4th in the USA. Suddenly the 'rest of the world' release date dropped back a week.

EQ:SoL Was set for global release on Dec 4th. Then an American twigged that it's Dec 4th in the rest of the world *before* it is Dec 4th in the USA. Suddenly the 'rest of the world' release date dropped back a week.

hmmm...

Im sorry to bore you all with my ranting but since buying everquest 3 months ago and losing my life at the same time i find it frustrating at the lack of service provided to uk users .Whither it be inconvenient patch times or strange you have been disconected messages (or most recently our late introduction to luclin) Verant Sony and Ubisoft all seem to have as little regard for our interests as each other.Thank you for listning I feel so much better now.

HOW MUCH LONGER IS "SHORTLY?" Your time or the rest of world's time?
release

i agree with u both me being from the uk too. when we get it we are going to be well behind the states in exporing the new zone. why promise a worldwide release knowing the different weekday release across the globe if Havas can do it why can't Ubisoft do it. they have alot to learn from other computer companys who do it
Verant not looking competent!

Verant really seems to be doing all they can to assure the success of DAoC! Delaying release of Luclin expansion, ******** up the Luclin patch so people cannot play EQ now at all, the No Coin Drop patch that's so unpopular...I'm no marketing genius, but it seems to me you don't build up something the way they've built up Luclin and then not deliver on promises. When I tell someone I'm going to do something "shortly", I am usually referring to minutes and not hours or days. They say the game will be up "shortly", but that message has been up for several hours now! Wow! Time to look into DAoC? I think so!
Late release

Being a Brit I think it sucks too, not as much as you poor aussies tho, and I know a load of people who not only booked the day of but the entire week. Cheers Ubisoft for a well organised release :).

PS. Isnt the late release totally unfair too as our cousins across the pond will have a head start on everything in the new zones. Oh well thats the way it goes for us in Blighty no Broadband, No Luclin.

Oh yeah and way is it taking so long for the servers to become live "a little while" is not over 5 hours in my book.

Oh and didnt Havas get it perfectly correct the world over when they released Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction?
