Autonomous Brokering in Rain of Fear

An offline Bazaar system is among the features being introduced with the Rain of Fear expansion. Just how exactly will it work? Here are the details!

The Art of the Deal

Players have long requested the ability to sell items while they are offline, and with EverQuest: Rain of Fear this will become a reality!

Brokering while offline couldn't be simpler with this feature upgrade! Simply set up your broker as you normally would, making sure to have correct pricing on all of your selections, and then click on the new button in the trader interface labeled "offline mode." If you prefer to use command lines, we've got you covered; the command "/offlinemode" will have the same effect.

Using this button (or command) will log you out of EverQuest, but your trader will remain active. Any sales made during this time will work normally, and you'll be happy to log back in and find freshly delivered piles of platinum on your character!

I'm Buying 500 Shares of Antonica Steel!

We're not stopping at sales though; EverQuest: Rain of Fear also includes a number of improvements on the purchasing side! For the first time ever, players will not need to be in the Bazaar to see what items are available for sale (and at what price). Instead the /bazaar command will be usable anywhere in Norrath and display the items for sale in the bazaar as normal.

In addition to the traditional method of purchase directly from a seller, those who have Rain of Fear will also be able to buy items from anywhere in Norrath! Simply search for an item as you normally would using the bazaar menu, then click on the item you'd like to buy. After purchase, two delivery options will be available: delivery to the nearest parcel vendor (available for a modest fee* in game coins), or expedited delivery (via our new Expedited Delivery Vouchers** available in the Marketplace) which delivers the item straight to your cursor.

All in all, commerce in Norrath is about to receive a huge update!

*Currently the fees for parcel delivery in our Beta Test are set at 10% of the cost of the item being purchased, but this is subject to change.
**Expedited Delivery currently requires two Expedited Delivery vouchers, subject to change.

while i like this in spirit, i actually see eq going the way of many online games- charging postal fees. i often brag when paying high fees to send one item anywhere in lotro that eq1 has no postal fees. look like this is about to change. so much for being a unique game. or even for free postage, unheard of before eq1 put in their postage system

Wonder if they will allow toons to sell to barters while the barter toon is off line. I dont see anything mentioned about barters.

Basically, it's set up a trader when you're not playing.

You can browse the baz when playing, anywhere, but items bought will go to either a parcel vendor or you pay RL $ to get it on your cursor.

I like it, as no more leaving computers on just to sell. You can buy anywhere, but if you want it now, you'll pay extra.
So where is the players cut?

Example if I have 20 Distillate of Skinspikes XV @ 500p each and a player buys with voucher does it cost him 40 vouchers one for each or does the stack count as one....and if the players are buying vouchers to buy MY product because I am so wise and clever to figure out a demand...where is my %?

If you cant have a trader up and play at the same time the only real benefit is that we save a few cents on our power bills and dont have to worry about our traders going LD. Meanwhile SOE saves a ton on server costs... I want TRUE offline trading where i can post an item AND play.

I'm curious as to how anyone would expect to have 2 characters logged in at the same time from the same acct? The brokering system is not designed for that, but instead to help facilitate having a trader up when you are not logged on. When you log back in to the same account on a character other than your trader, your trader will not be active anymore (this goes back to having 2 characters from the same account logged on at the same time, which is unlikely to ever happen). You want a trader up 24/7 and still play at the same time? Get a second account..simple enough. Nothing saying you can't have a silver account vendor..it just wont be able to carry more than 41k pp at any given time.

You mean besides the fact that a 41kpp limit on a trader makes it worthless but how about the most important problem with your whole argument....... Silver accounts cant sell on the bazaar, gold only.

So your whole solution is to use a second account to sell. Not paying $15 a month to have a 24/7 trader.

They could have implemented an auction house system like every other MMO but instead they cling to the ancient bazaar system.
Good, but not too easy

I like these changes they put in. I was afraid at first that it was going to make everything too easy and unrealistic, but it seems like that will not be the case. Yes, it may be a little weird you could get a delivery in the bottom of lower guk, but sounds like you will have to pay for the FedEx service!

Really looking forward to this. Nice to hear there will be a way to purchase from outside the bazaar as well... if anything, just to price check things. :)

It sounds like you won't be able to have this offline trader thing set up while you have a character that is online. Guess we won't be seeing as many afks in the guild lobby. The checking what is for sale in the bazaar in any zone thing should have been put in shortly after the bazaar went live. I am amazed it took them this long in the first place. If it wasn't for them making money off of expedited delivery vouchers we still probably wouldn't be able to see what is for sale in the bazaar from any zone in the game.

So it sounds like any fees or auction house type cut will only be placed on people buying from a far for delivery and none for using offline mode. Sounds fine with me.

So does that mean you can't have an alt trader on your account that you put into trader mode, but then log into a different character on that same account?

No, but I for one currently have more accounts than I can play at one time. (desktop is down, laptop eventually goes to black screen if I try to run 4 accounts). This would let me load up a trader, goto offline mode, and then load a different account to play.

It doesnt sound like it.....I guess what it does though is keep you from being on the server and logged in, so I am sure it is advantageous for Sony somehow

The advantage for Sony would be selling more copies of RoF ;)

Collectively across the family, we have five EQ accounts. I typically play three at one time and have the other two up as traders (unless someone else wants to play too). I didn't want to have to upgrade all of the accounts to RoF (at least not right away) and was hoping just maybe I might get lucky and be able to set up traders on three of the accounts I do plan on upgrading to RoF, but still be able to play the main characters on those accounts. But I knew it was going to be a long shot.

I'm not going to take the time to transfer my trader inventory from one account to another at night just to switch to offline trading, I'll just continue to leave my PC on at night rather than spending an extra $80 to upgrade two more accounts just so I can turn my PC off at night and only have to run three instances of EQ at once instead of five when I'm playing.

Will wait for a RoF sale at some point to upgrade the last two accounts.
